Chapter 230: Don’t You Miss Me Too?
Leo clenched his jaw tightly, refusing to look at her eyes. That was the nail that sealed the coffin.
Amelia’s blood ran cold as she stared at the teenager, her breath hitching in disbelief. She was never particularly close to Carlo’s friends as compared to Carlo himself, especially since they were difficult to speak with, but she at least thought they liked her enough those times she spent her days at the orphanage with Daniella.
“Why?” Amelia asked, the word leaving her throat a little breathless. “You… You could’ve just come to me if you needed help with your future career. I could’ve helped you. There was no need―”
“You were always with Carlo!” Leo suddenly yelled, breaking his silence. “Just because he’s secretly a nerd doesn’t mean everyone else is one. Yet your eyes never land on people with talents who lie elsewhere― not on people like Jason, and certainly not on me!”
Jason― that was another name that rang a bell in Amelia’s head. He was another one of Carlo’s close friends, a little younger than Carlo and Leo.
“All you rich folk are the same,” Leo continued, speaking lowly as he rubbed at his sore wrists. “But at least you’ve got one thing right. The only way to make it up is through connections. If you aren’t willing to get me one, then I’ll find my own way.”
Hearing his words, Caleb let out an approving bark of laughter.
“Atta boy,” he said. “This one will make it to high places.”
At his words, Leo seemingly beamed with pride like a puppy that was praised by its owner.
“Now, I trust that you won’t speak of this to anyone?” Caleb asked, but it sounded more like an order. “After all, if you did tell, you’d be an accomplice. I wouldn’t need to tell you what happens to poor orphans accused of crimes. Don’t forget― you’re already eighteen. They wouldn’t be sending you to juvie if you get caught.”
Leo nodded once, a small smirk across his lips.
“As long as we’ve got a deal,” he said. His eyes lit up when Caleb reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone to show him what was on the screen.
Moments later, Leo’s own phone let out a small beep. One check and his lips curled into a smirk.
“Congratulations,” Caleb said. “You’ve been accepted into W&W Industries as an intern. Keep up your performance and we will convert your contract to full-time staff― along with a nice raise.”
“Thanks, Boss,” Leo said with a short laugh.
He then turned to Amelia, his expression morphing into a mocking one before the smile slowly dimmed. Without a second glance back, he sped away, his body disappearing quickly into the shadows.
Amelia’s heart sank. She could not count on Leo to get help in the end.
“Now… let’s get started on the main event…” Caleb’s eyes roved all over Amelia’s body, causing shivers of revulsion to overcome her figure.
“What… what are you planning?!”
But before she could say anything else, Caleb closed the distance between them and tossed Amelia over his shoulder as though she was nothing more than a sack of potatoes. She let out a screech in surprise, and he merely laughed before his long steps took him to a room in the back.
What was even more shocking was that despite the fact that the rest of the warehouse looked as though it had been abandoned from proper operational use for at least a couple of years, this room was well-furnished… even if the furniture did not match the theme of the building.
For one thing, this room was decorated like a bedroom― a plush king-sized bed, a fancy rug, mirrors placed on both the walls and ceilings, and finished with romantic lighting. There were no windows and no other furniture except for the bed and one armchair tucked in a corner.
However, the cherry on top of it was that the layout of this room was almost identical to the bedroom of their shared home before the divorce. It was only missing a couple of pieces of furniture here and there. Otherwise, even the bedsheets looked similar to the ones Amelia herself had picked out back then.
With all the grace of a brute, Caleb tossed Amelia onto the bed and she bounced on the mattress, huffing as the air was knocked out of her lungs.
In the short span of time that she had her eyes closed to brace for the impact, she heard the door click in the background― she was locked here with no means of escape.
“You must admit, our relationship has seen its fair share of ups and downs,” Caleb said with a long exhale. He reached up and began to undo his tie, pulling it away from his neck so that it loosened.
There was a dark, menacing glow that lit up his eyes, causing Amelia to worm back in fright. Alarm bells went off in her head as she began to guess what it was this maniac was attempting, and her eyes quickly roved the room in an attempt to search for something — anything — she could possibly use as a weapon to defend herself.
“Don’t bother,” Caleb said, easily reading through her thoughts. “Do you see anything sharp here? I’ve made sure to prepare this room perfectly. I’m sorry that I couldn’t get it to be the exact copy of our old bedroom.”
His words confirmed Amelia’s suspicions.
“But I am sure the experience would be the same regardless of the location, right?”

The mattress dipped as Caleb crawled onto the bed with her, shrugging his outerwear off and tossing it to a far corner of the floor in one fluid motion.
Desperate, Amelia kicked her foot out, catching Caleb by surprise. Her shoes managed to leave a pretty little mark right on his cheek, causing his face to veer to one side from its sheer force. But unfortunately, the heel of her shoe missed, or it would’ve done considerably more damage.
Amelia tried a second time, but if Caleb fell for it again, he would’ve been deserving of it. This time, he caught her by the ankle, swiftly removing both her shoes before he chucked them behind him. They fell to the floor with a cluttering sound, and Caleb used her ankles to pull Amelia closer to him.
“It’s been a while, Amelia,” Caleb said, leaning in so that his whispers fell directly on her skin. “I’ve missed you. Don’t you miss me too?”
