Chapter 232: Dark Knight
Caleb’s head finally veered to the door right as he heard the third bang. He frowned, sharply turning to see what the commotion was.
Before he could ask the guards what was happening — considering how he had ordered them to not disturb at all costs — the door suddenly burst open. Or more accurately, it splintered into a hundred pieces as the body of one of the guards he had hired came soaring into the room.
“Fuck!” Caleb jumped in surprise, using one of the spare pillows to cover himself as he jumped off Amelia due to his shock.
The guard crashed through the door and against the wall, his head slumped forward before his entire body dropped to the floor in a heap. There wasn’t even so much as a groan that came from him― just like that, the man was knocked out cold.
What followed was the sound of the shards of glass crackling beneath the sole of a shoe, along with the crunch of the splintered pieces of wood. One polished shoe entered the room, followed by another, and when Caleb and Amelia looked at the door, both were wide-eyed with surprise to see a man saunter in with his hand lazily tucked in the pocket of his trousers, his other hand digging his ear.
“What an amateur,” the man muttered under his breath. Then, he turned his head to survey the rest of the room, only to find Amelia’s face tear-stricken but filled with relief, while Caleb was stunned by fear.
“How did you―?” Caleb hadn’t even managed to get the question out of his mouth before the man crossed the room and toward the bed.
Amelia had sat up the moment Caleb was off of her, but with her clothes scattered on the floor in tatters, she wasn’t able to effectively cover herself, especially with her hands cuffed together. However, she needn’t worry about that, for the next thing she knew, a pressed black suit jacket was thrown over her body, covering what was needed.
Aiden stood by the bedside― without his outerwear and dressed only in black trousers and a crumpled white shirt that had the first few buttons undone, he looked more like a delinquent from the local boys’ school rather than a CEO of a respectable company.
“So when my personal assistant didn’t come back from her coffee break, this was where she had been kidnapped to, I see,” he said, scoffing mockingly.
Then, before Caleb could react, Aiden had pulled his arm back and punched forward, socking Caleb right in the eye with a sickening crunch.
Amelia wormed away in an attempt to avoid accidentally getting hit in the crossfire, but there was no need. Aiden dragged Caleb off the bed by the collar of his shirt as though he was nothing more than a ragdoll, before tossing him on the ground alongside the knocked-out guard.
“You’ve got some nerve, Walton,” Aiden sneered, harshly kicking the man who was already down. “Who gave you the fucking balls to touch Amelia?”
He bent down and threw a punch, then another, and another. Caleb had no time to react, his face quickly earning the bruises he deserved, one after another. Every so often, he would be able to catch Aiden’s punches, and though he tried to retaliate, it was more than obvious― Caleb was no match for Aiden, who had seen his fair share of street fights and gang meetups.
Blood quickly splashed across the walls of the room, staining the floor and the rug a brilliant red. Yet, Aiden was relentless. His punches rained on Caleb’s face as though it was a maelstrom, endlessly hailing against the latter’s skin until the skin broke and cracks had formed in his bones.
“Aiden, stop!” Amelia suddenly yelled, crawling to the foot of the bed as best as she could without the jacket falling from her lap. “You’re going to kill him!”
“Shouldn’t he die for his crimes?” Aiden shot back without turning to look at Amelia, the veins on his neck popping against his skin due to his fury.
“He’s not worth going to jail for,” Amelia said. “Let’s just call the cops.”
“I already did,” Aiden confessed. However, he remained on the floor, straddling Caleb’s body all while laughing sinisterly. “But beating this sick fuck up is a lot more fun. Besides, the Montgomerys have more than enough money to tide this over as nothing more than a… accident.”
“The Waltons are still X’el’s business partners,” Amelia reminded. “This isn’t―”
“We wanted to keep this as a surprise for you, but I suppose it doesn’t hurt to let you know,” Aiden replied. “W&W Industries secretly filed for bankruptcy just a few hours ago. The Waltons can’t do anything to us even if their precious heir dies here and his corpse rots beyond recognition.”
Caleb’s face was so swollen that he could no longer speak, but he was still conscious. Hearing this, his eyes widened — just ever so slightly, considering how the swell greatly restricted his movements — but it was enough for Aiden’s smirk to widen.
“I guess your daddy hasn’t told you?” Aiden taunted before raising his fists one more time, this time, knocking Caleb out.
Only when Aiden was sure Caleb was unconscious did he head rummage through Caleb’s body, withdrawing a key. He got off him after and headed for the bed.
As he came closer, Amelia could see the bloodstains that were splattered all over his clothes. Even his fists were shaking — whether from anger, adrenaline, or pain, Amelia wasn’t sure — and the skin on his knuckles was bruised, if not torn.
However, despite that, he went straight for Amelia, adjusting the jacket on her body so that it covered her bottom half in place of her torn skirt, and then undid the cuffs on Amelia’s wrists. Instantly, she wrapped her top a little tighter around her body― the buttons were long gone but there was still enough fabric left to shield her modesty.
Just as she was about to get off, Aiden reached down, one arm moving under her knees while the other held her from the back. Easily, he lifted her off the bed in a bridal style.
“It’s a little dirty,” was all he muttered before he carried her out of the room.
‘A little’ was an understatement.
The outside was no better than the mess inside. It was a miracle they heard nothing up until Aiden reached the door. It looked as though the internal area of the warehouse had been swept over by a hurricane― bodies littered the floor while the scarce pieces of furniture lay scattered everywhere.

Amelia wasn’t even sure if all of those fallen men were breathing or not with how serious their injuries looked. Some were lying in a pool of their own blood, while others had random objects jutting out of their limbs.
“Don’t look,” Aiden said. “Keep your eyes closed.”
It was gory, but Amelia couldn’t keep her eyes off of the scene. It looked as though they were on the set of a horror-action movie, and yet, Aiden moved through the mess as though he was making his way through the supermarket.
By the time they headed out, the sun had already set. Bright lights coming from a car’s headlights caused Amelia to wince, squinting her eyes until she slowly adjusted to the light. Aiden crossed the dirt path quickly, and only once he was at his car did he put Amelia gently back down to the ground.
He opened the door for her and she got in. However, he didn’t get in with her. Aiden stopped by the other car, and without warning, jammed his fist through the car window, punching until cobweb cracks formed on the glass before finally shattering.
Reaching in, he pulled out Amelia’s purse before slipping into the driver’s seat of his own vehicle and placing the bag on her lap.
Just like that, without any words exchanged, they were on the road, leaving the deserted warehouse far behind them.
Amelia’s eyes were glued to the mirror, watching as the building turned smaller and smaller.
“We need to call the police,” she said, her throat hoarse. “He… Caleb needs to be caught. And Leo―”
Her words were clogged in her throat as she said the name. She had been so naive, trusting, and foolish. After everything that had happened, Amelia finally realized― she had only begun to learn the ropes of the game she was forcibly thrust into.
Finally in a safe space, tears began to flow from her eyes. A couple of drops eventually became endless ropes of tears as she sobbed, crying her heart out.
Aiden cast her a glance before stopping the car by the side of the road, the tires screeching to a halt.
“Amelia?” he asked. “What’s wrong? Oh shit, was I too late? Did he… Should I bring you to a hospital? I’ll bring you there, just hang on―”
“No, no hospital,” Amelia said, a hand placed on Aiden’s forearm. “Thank you… Thank you for finding me.”
There was a pause as Amelia struggled to control her breathing. Only after her sobs had softened did she feel a warm hand on her head.
When she looked up, she was met with Aiden’s soft gaze. The feral violence from before had melted into a serene expression, filling her with a comforting warmth.
“You’re alright,” he murmured to her. “You’re safe now. I’ve got you.”
Amelia swallowed the bile in her throat. Wiping her tears away from the corners of her eyes, she finally asked, “How did you find me?”
