Marry My Billionaire Second Husband - Chapter 239
Chapter 239: Arrested
“So… you’re packing to move back already?” Aiden asked, a tiny whine in his voice. Isaac tutted at him.
“Of course she is. Were you expecting her to stay with us forever?” He chided. “Now stop sulking at the corner and help her pack.”
“There’s no need for that,” Amelia said hastily. “I didn’t bring a lot to begin with, and he’s injured!”
Her eyes stared at his bandaged knuckles. Isaac had treated them at home with iodine and wrapped them up himself, citing that there was no lasting harm done. Aiden would be right as rain in a few days.
As such, all of his concerns were directed to Amelia, especially after the confirmation of her pregnancy. He had looked over the list provided by the hospital doctor and helpfully provided additions, causing Amelia’s head to spin at the overload of information.
Meanwhile, Matteo nodded with all seriousness and remembered all of it like it was life-saving information. And technically it was.
“You’re pregnant, you’re not supposed to be over-exerting yourself,” Isaac scolded. “After the ordeal you’ve just been through, you should be doing nothing more rigorous than sitting on the sofa.”
“I’m packing on her behalf,” Matteo added from his spot on the floor, where he was busy folding Amelia’s clothes to put away in her suitcase.
While he was grateful for Aiden’s help in saving Amelia, he also needed to remind his brother that Matteo was Amelia’s future husband, the father of her children, and not Aiden. His brother had been hovering too close to Amelia for his liking.
“You can go and rest in your own room,” he said, and Aiden scowled at the implicit dismissal.
“So I see this is how you treat your savior? Shove him aside so you don’t have to confront your own uselessness―”
Matteo whipped his head around and glared at his brother. “Patients should kindly shut up and rest on their beds where they belong―”
Amelia cleared her throat loudly and changed the subject before the brothers could argue again. The injury must have made Aiden cranky. “Has there been any news regarding Caleb?”
Everyone’s faces fell.
“How hard can it be to catch one man?” Aiden complained. “It’s been hours and there’s still no news.”
A muscle twitched in his jaw. “Someone must be hiding him. There’s no way he could have avoided police detection otherwise.”
Amelia sighed as she thought about it. Caleb was a slimy bastard, but he wasn’t slippery enough to escape a city-wide manhunt without help. And the only people who would be willing to lend a helping hand would be…
“Maybe his father paid good money to send him out of the country,” Amelia said. “Is it possible for the police to stop him from flying abroad? An arrest warrant or something?”
Matteo shook his head. “If he was an ordinary man, that wouldn’t be a problem. But even with W&W Enterprises going under, Will Walton will still have enough money and power to grease the wheels.”
It would be all too easy to bribe airport staff to close an eye and let Caleb Walton through.
They’ve already searched the Walton mansion, and they found no sign of his presence.
Matteo’s phone rang, and a quick glance showed that it was from the police. “Finally, they’ve got some news.”
“What is it?”
“Mr. Montgomery, we have picked up Mrs. Walton. She’s now in custody,” the police chief reported excitedly, but Matteo was less than pleased.
“Excuse me, did you say Mrs. Walton?” Matteo demanded hotly. “Why are you arresting that woman instead of her son? Are you planning to use her as bait?”
The rest of them stared at Matteo curiously, wondering what could have made him so angry suddenly. Matteo put the phone on speaker.
“Mr. Montgomery, Mrs. Walton has pleaded guilty to the crime. She claims she had purposely manipulated her son to kidnap and attempt to sexually assault Miss Amelia Hawthorne, in a bid to save her husband’s failing business. She had never forgiven herself for disapproving of their marriage and encouraging him to divorce Miss Amelia Hawthorne.”
Amelia rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath. “That is utter nonsense. I’ve never even seen her in my life. If she’s so sorry, she should have at least shown up to apologize after my identity is revealed.”
“As it stands now, the case against Caleb Walton cannot be pursued, because he is mentally unstable. Will Walton claims he has already been sent out of the country to seek medical help, and he is very sorry for all the duress Miss Hawthorne had to suffer.”
Caleb? Go abroad? Amelia’s mouth fell open. It was just as she predicted!

“Nonsense!” Matteo bellowed, enraged by the turn of events. “This is a blatant cover-up! Even a child would be able to see that, but you police can’t? Do you have any proof that he was already sent abroad and not hiding in one of his many residences? That man had a gun! How could you just let him go like this!”
The police chief merely replied with deliberate calm. “We will need time to verify the truth of their claims. We wish you a good day.”
The call went dead.
“What the fuck?!” Aiden exclaimed. “I can’t believe Caleb Walton is treating his mother like toilet paper― he’s using her to clean up his shit while he fucks off to go sip margaritas on some beach?! Is that woman insane? Even if she volunteered, he should have said no― this is his mother we’re talking about! Urgh, this bastard has no pride as a man.”
A frown of disgust crossed Aiden’s face.
“It’s more likely that she offered,” Amelia said grimly.
She had never met the woman, but Caleb was her only son, who was now a wanted criminal. Amelia highly doubted she would sit back and wait for him to be sent to prison. No parent would want such an outcome.
“I’m more worried about Caleb’s whereabouts. Did he actually go abroad?” Isaac pointed out worriedly. “From what I’ve heard of him, he doesn’t seem to be the kind to give up so easily.”
