Marry My Billionaire Second Husband - Chapter 244
Chapter 244: Traitor
“Amelia!” Aiden exclaimed, rushing towards the door to pry it open, hoping that Amelia’s presence was a figment of his imagination.
Why hadn’t he checked if the door was properly closed? Why did Emmeline come to find him?!
All the questions were useless. Aiden only knew he had to resolve this or risk all his plans going up in smoke.
He tried to reach out to Amelia, but she twisted away from his hands like his touch was poison. Her eyes that once used to look at him with tolerant fondness and affection were now replaced with jagged shards of hurt, their sharp edges cutting his bravado into pieces.
“Please let me explain―”
“What is there to explain?” Amelia demanded shakily, her face was paler than the moon since all her blood had left her body. “I heard it all with my own two ears!”
Aiden, who she trusted with her secrets, who she thought of as a friend, almost a family member, was single-handedly responsible for the mess that was keeping her up at night. Her lack of proper rest… Her anxiety of the future…
All this time, he was sitting on the truth, but he never opened his mouth to let Amelia know about it!
Suddenly, she wished her bodyguard was here. Sean was currently waiting downstairs for her to escort her home when she was done with her work. She had foolishly thought there wasn’t going to be a need for Sean’s services while she was at the office since Aiden was only an office away and could protect her well enough.
How was she to know he had a direct hand in her suffering! Now, she wished for Sean’s presence, and for his thick biceps to strike Emmeline and Aiden both.
“Emmeline is a liar, Amelia, you know that!” Aiden said hurriedly, willing to fling Emmeline under the bus where she would hopefully be crushed under the wheels for good.
He had come so close; there was no way he would let Emmeline ruin matters for him with her big mouth. If he was going down, he’d drag her sorry ass down with him.
“And what good would she do to lie about this?” Amelia pointed out, spitting out her words.
The sudden betrayal had made her heart grow colder in a mere instant. First Caleb, now Aiden. Amelia had to wonder if there was something on her face that attracted liars and scammers to her. Was it the guile in her blue eyes, or the softness of her cheeks?
Matteo was the only man she could trust.
She sucked in another deep breath and tried to calm herself down. Her eyes met Aiden’s and she caught the tendril of fear in his pupils.
Yes. He should be afraid.
“It just proves that Matteo was right all along. That child isn’t his. It’s yours, Aiden, because you’re a lying cheat!” Amelia declared loudly. She hoped the entire office heard her. It felt good to speak such a sentence and know it to be the truth. “Emmeline is a liar, but you… you’re a traitor, Aiden!”
Now, she had to let Matteo know about it. Her hand immediately reached for her phone and she dialed Matteo’s number.
Aiden quickly lunged for her in an attempt to stop her, but she was prepared for it, ducking away from him as she frantically waited for Matteo to pick up. She swiftly crossed cubicles while Aiden chased after her frantically.
She had to tell someone. Her mind was still reeling with the impact of such a betrayal. To think she had just eaten lunch with Aiden a day ago in the office as they brainstormed on ways to revolutionize X’el. He complained about Emmeline and asked about how she was coping.
He was her friend. How could he do this to her?
When Amelia had more time, she would look over all of their earlier interactions with a fine-tooth comb, trying to figure out if there was anything real about their friendship.
Now, all she could focus on was letting Matteo know.
The call connected, and Matteo’s voice echoed through the line.
“Amelia? What’s wrong?” he asked worriedly, alarm bells blaring in his head. He knew his wife would not call him during working hours if there was no emergency. They tended to stick to text messages, or they would send photos to let the other party know they were thinking of them.
Could something have gone wrong with the pregnancy?
“Do you need to go to the hospital? I’ll call an ambulance―”
Before Amelia could open her mouth and let him know, Aiden caught up to her. His strides were longer, and now that she was distracted, he easily tugged the phone from her grip and ended the call.
“Aiden! Give it back!” Amelia demanded, trying to reach for it, her eyes blazing with anger. “You’re already in trouble, don’t dig yourself an even bigger hole!”

Aiden smiled, but it did not reach his eyes. “Like you said, I’m already in trouble. So whether I stop you from calling him or not, makes no difference to me. I’m already in your bad books. But as long as Matteo doesn’t know the truth, nothing is set in stone.”
“You are insane!” Amelia made another attempt to grab her phone, but Aiden held it up higher. Their height difference meant there was no way she could grab it unless she jumped high enough to rival a volleyball player. “Give it back!”
The phone rang again. If Matteo had only been mildly worried before, he would have been incredibly worried now. It was not like Amelia to call him by accident, and past events have only made him more wary. Was she held hostage somewhere?
“Amelia, stop jumping around,” Aiden scolded, his voice turning panicky. “You’re pregnant, you’re not supposed to make so much movement. Think about the fetus!”
“Oh trust me, I’ve done nothing but think of the fetus,” Amelia nearly screamed into his face. “In fact, I even think of other fetuses― like the one floating in Emmeline’s womb! The one you help make! How could you not tell me? You knew the truth! You saw me worry, you utter fucking bastard―!”
