Chapter 276: Congratulations, Aiden
Of course, those words were screamed out by Annalise, who was the only supporter of Emmeline keeping the baby. Annalise had stormed to the door and proceeded to block it with her own body. She tilted her head up challengingly at all of them.
“If you want to get a doctor, you’d have to get through me!” Annalise cried out, “Emmeline, are you going to step over my corpse just so that you can toss away your unborn child?”
Emmeline paused. She never expected her mother to go this far in protest.
“Mom, don’t be ridiculous and get away from the door,” Emmeline said. “You know keeping this baby would be nothing but nonsense. Look at the father of my child!” She pointed to Aiden. “He still believes pineapples cause abortions! Any child with his brains would be ruined from the start. I cannot accept this.”
“You say like I want a kid that comes from you,” Aiden retorted. “They’d probably scream my ears off!”
Before the both of them could devolve into petty bickering, there was a knock at the door before someone pushed it open, causing Annalise to stumble and fall.
It was the doctor, and she had an envelope in her hand. It wasn’t Doctor Michelle. But whoever she was, she was unprepared for the welcome she would receive the moment she entered the room.
“Oh dear, are you alright?” the doctor asked, wanting to help Annalise up, but Aiden all but leapt to her side and pulled her into the room, expertly side-stepping Annalise who was still on the floor to drag her to Emmeline’s side.
Annalise spluttered angrily and got up on her own.
“Doctor,” Emmeline grabbed at her hands desperately. “When can I have an abortion?”
“What?” The doctor blinked in confusion. “I… You want an abortion? Are you sure?”
“Yes,” Emmeline nodded frantically, her grip on the poor doctor’s hands tightening by the second. “I wanted this baby out since yesterday. Now it’s just the right time―”
“Don’t listen to her!” Annalise shrieked as she tried to tug the doctor’s hands away. The doctor flinched. “She’s making an impulsive decision because her emotions are influenced by her hormones.”
“No, I’m not, Mom! Stop trying to ruin my life!” Emmeline yelled back, and the doctor flinched at the volume of her voice.
“Wait… Please calm down,” the doctor said, casting Amelia and Matteo a wordless plea for help. After all, they were the only two people who were standing calmly in the corner, along with a man who looked like a bodyguard. Surely they could do something to curtail this madness!
Amelia gestured for Sean to rescue the poor doctor from the clutches of the mother and daughter, who were fighting over her as though she was a chew toy.
“Why did you come to visit?” Amelia asked. “Was it a simple check-up?”
The doctor smiled anxiously, relieved that there was at least one normal person she could talk to. “Actually no, I’m here because the blood test results are out.” She shifted, and all eyes were drawn to the brown envelope she held in her hands. “I heard that this was a matter of grave importance, so my senior told me to deliver it the moment it was done. But I’m guessing this isn’t a good time?”
“Nonsense, Doctor, you arrived just in time,” Annalise said with a pleased smile, while Aiden’s face paled immediately.
He shot Matteo and Amelia with a desperate look as he stumbled towards them with shaky legs, nearly tearing the envelope from the doctor’s hands. The doctor let out a tiny squeak and held it tightly, surprised at the vehemence of his reaction.
This potential father clearly didn’t want to take responsibility!
Meanwhile, Annalise’s lips curled derisively as she noticed Aiden’s pathetic behavior. So he dared to impregnate her daughter, but he didn’t have the guts to face the music?
If Emmeline had simply aborted the child, that would be letting him off too lightly! Emmeline was the only one who would be suffering from the damage to her reputation.
“Please, do let us know the results.” Annalise smiled sweetly. “Everyone needs to know the truth so that we can move forward as a family!”
Matteo cleared his throat. “Doctor, would you mind just reading out the paternity test result? We don’t need to know anything else.”
“Alright,” the doctor said as she blinked. The entire room held their breaths as she tore open the bound envelope, revealing the report. She took out the first page with devastating slowness, and her eyes quickly sped-read through it.
“So? What is it?” Annalise prompted, the excitement was nearly killing her.
The doctor frowned. “I think there must be some kind of mistake.”
“What mistake?” Annalise demanded. She jabbed an angry finger in Aiden’s direction. “There’s no mistake! This man is indeed the father of Emmeline’s child!”
“There could be some contamination with the blood test results,” the doctor said hastily, “I would need to recheck with my superiors and the other lab techs.”

“Why? What could possibly be the matter?” Annalise complained imperiously. Now she was less desperate and more irritated at the doctor’s demeanor, and she wanted a proper answer. “Just give me an answer― yes or no?”
The doctor sucked in a breath. “…Yes, Aiden Montgomery is the father of the child, but―”
“No need for buts!” Annalise roared in vindictive delight as she lunged at Aiden, hauling him up by the collar, a feat made more incredible with her paltry arm muscles. The concrete knowledge that this man was responsible gave her the strength to march his sorry ass to the altar, come hell or high water.
“You’d better take responsibility for Emmeline right now! Marry her or I’m telling everyone you’re a scumbag!”
“I refuse! I want an abortion! I demand an abortion!” Emmeline yelled in response to her mother’s words. Her eyes bulged in anger. “Doctor, schedule one for me this afternoon! I’ll pay any price!”
“I’ll leave all of you to think it over,” the doctor said hurriedly, before she all but fled the room.
The envelope with the test results fell to the floor with a soft thud, but it was forgotten by most of the individuals in the room. Matteo bent down to pick it up because Amelia shouldn’t be exerting herself, preventing Annalise and Aiden from stomping over it with their shoes.
“Emmeline should get the abortion,” Matteo declared. “It’s her choice.”
