Chapter 291: The Old Warehouse
Amelia’s sweaty hands clutched at the steering wheel, as she kept one eye on the GPS. Her breath came out in shaky pants, and she bit her lip. The roads were clear as she drove to the port― and she couldn’t help but dart her eyes at the rearview mirror.
Matteo wanted to get the police to escort her while keeping their distance, but the police vehicles were simply too eye-catching in this part of the town. As such, the cops swapped out their gaudy vehicles for average cars that no one would bat their eyes at. They followed her a safe distance away, barely visible in her rearview mirror.
However, Amelia still felt worried. No matter how boring a car looked, it would attract attention simply because driving to such a location at such a late hour wasn’t something normal people did.
She sucked in a deep breath, hoping that Caleb would not look further.
In no time at all, she arrived at the warehouse. The grimy smell filled her nose, and she resisted the urge to gag. Mold had long taken over the property after long years of neglect. It was a miracle that the government had yet to tear down the place, especially since it hadn’t been in use for at least more than a decade.
Amelia slowly stepped out of the car, her hands discreetly patting her pockets where she had hidden a weapon. Matteo had insisted she brought one with her, and paired with an oversized sweater and baggy long pants, it hid the shape of the weapon perfectly.
Taking a deep breath, she walked to the warehouse. A wave of the salty seabreeze quickly swarmed her senses but she trudged forward.
Instead of calling out for Caleb, Amelia kept her lips tightly zipped shut. She wasn’t sure where Caleb was hiding in wait for her, but she didn’t want to know. The odds of her finding her father without him noticing her presence were zero to none, but she had hoped she could buy some time at least.
However, the more quiet the place was, the more unrestful she felt.
She saw no one, yet every move she made, Amelia felt as though someone was watching her from the shadows.
Strangely, she wasn’t disturbed by anyone. Amelia stepped through the warehouse, checking all the rooms only to be pleasantly surprised that there was no sign of Caleb anywhere. Then, her relief quickly faded.
Did Caleb run off with her father as soon as he realized there were police officers who escorted her here?
That thought was quickly dispelled when she heard some shuffling and a muffled cry, drawing her attention.
“Dad!” she whisper-yelled, rushing forward to where Michael Kentwood lay on the floor.
His hands and feet were bound together and he was sporting a nasty cut on his bottom lip, along with a bruise on his forehead. Other than that, there were thankfully no other visible wounds.
“Amelia,” Michael Kentwood all but heaved out in panic the moment Amelia pried the gag from his lips. “What are you doing here? Leave! Now!”
“I’m here to get you, of course,” she said, focusing on undoing the dastardly knots Caleb had tied. “Why won’t this thing budge―”
“You need to go before he comes back,” Michael hurriedly said. “Leave me be and run, Millie. Just go!”
“And have her miss the party?”
The sudden addition of a new voice caused both Amelia and Michael Kentwood to freeze where they were. Immediately, Amelia felt a chill run down her spine. She slowly turned her head to see Caleb standing by the doorway, leisurely leaning against the frame with his hands folded across his chest.
Amelia instantly moved to block her father from view, using her body as a shield.
“Let my father go,” Amelia said, trying to keep her voice still even though her entire body was shivering in fear. “I’m here. You promised not to hurt him.”
“I did, but you also promised to come here alone,” Caleb said with a raised eyebrow. “So imagine my surprise when I hear my men report a strange number of vehicles making their way to the port in the middle of the night. Millie, when did you learn to lie to me?”
Amelia’s face blanched; it was just as she feared. Caleb knew she had reinforcements, and she realized with dawning horror that he had not been working alone. There was movement inside the warehouse, and a group of black-clad men appeared to restrain her and her father.
“Who are these people?” Amelia exclaimed in fear when she caught sight of their heavily tattooed arms and burly figures.
She winced as one of them wrapped their arms around her body― it felt like a steel bar had fallen on top of her. She tried to wriggle, but the man tightened his hold, causing her to wince.
Meanwhile, a second man patted her down. Amelia flinched, turning her head away as she felt his lecherous hands roam all over her. The mercenary smirked and took the chance to fondle her breasts, and angry tears sprung in her eyes.
“Sir, she has a gun,” the man reported, easily removing Amelia’s concealed weapon and tossing it to Caleb, who caught it with one hand.
“Tsk tsk, Millie, when did you learn to use toys like this?” Caleb tutted in disapproval, “Matteo Montgomery is a bad influence on you.”
“Let my daughter go, you beast!” Michael Kentwood roared from his spot on the ground, only to be rewarded with Caleb’s backhand straight to his cheek. The pistol was whipped straight across her father’s mouth, causing a stream of blood to spurt. Her father’s cheek began to swell almost immediately.

“Dad!” Amelia screamed as she struggled, trying to escape the iron grip she was encased in. “Why did you hit him?”
“He was making too much noise,” Caleb said dryly. “We can’t have someone so rowdy at our wedding.”
“What wedding?!” Amelia screeched. “Caleb, stop being delusional!”
