Chapter 296: Sighting in Serafield
Will Walton marched straight for Amelia, his hand raised to hit her the second he got close enough.
“You worthless bitch!” he screamed, quickly drawing the attention of everyone else present in the hallway.
However, he didn’t have the chance to land the hit he intended. The two police officers stepped forward without Amelia needing to even dodge. One of them used their own body to block Amelia from harm while the other caught Will Walton’s arm in midair, holding it in place.
“Please mind yourself, Mr. Walton,” the police officer said. “Need I remind you that intending physical harm upon another is a crime?”
Will Walton merely glared at the cops before roughly shrugging his arm out of the officer’s grip. He turned his fierce gaze back onto Amelia, anger brimming in his eyes and venom coating his words.
“What have you done to my son?!” he roared. Then, he shifted his anger from Amelia to the police officers. “You! You guys have already arrested my wife. Now you’re going after my son too?”
“Mr. Walton,” the police officer said, “your son Caleb Walton was arrested for charges of kidnapping and attempted murder among a list of other offenses. Please do not obstruct, otherwise we will have to arrest you as well.”
“Have you forgotten who I am?” Will Walton hissed.
He took a step forward in an attempt to intimidate the officers. However, the two of them didn’t back away― they didn’t even flinch. Hilariously enough, they were both much taller than Will Walton, and with the latter standing so close to them, the officers had to literally look down upon him.
“I can make you both lose your jobs just like that!” he said with a snap of his fingers.
The two officers exchanged a glance. Everyone who had a clear view of their expressions could see that they desperately tried to stamp down the amused curve of their lips. One of them succeeded, while the other didn’t.
He barked out in laughter before looking at Will Walton.
“Maybe if this was three months ago, Mr. Walton,” he said. “But right now, I’m afraid being the owner and leader of W&W Industries will no longer be enough to keep the guilty members of your family out of prison.”
“Now move,” the other officer said, roughly pushing Will Walton to one side when he refused to move away.
The two brawny men flanked Amelia’s sides, carefully escorting her down the hall to another safe room the hospital staff had prepared for interrogations and questioning. Amelia turned back and chanced a look at Will Walton as she followed the two officers, watching as he slumped to the ground in defeat, his gaze listless.
“Who does he think he is?” the first officer said, rolling his eyes as he spoke to his partner.
“A prankster, that one,” the second officer said, chortling. “Make us lose our jobs? Please.”
The first officer looked at Amelia, smiling apologetically.
“Apologies for our unprofessionalism, Miss Kentwood.”
“Oh, no need for that,” Amelia said. “Quite frankly I am very grateful you two stepped in and handed him his just desserts.”
The three of them shared a knowing look before the officers gestured to the plush couch that was prepared for Amelia.
“Please, Miss Kentwood,” the man said. “We have a few questions regarding the suspect, Caleb Walton. This might take a while.”

Amelia opened her mouth and patiently waited for Matteo to bring the spoonful of porridge close. He had gently blown at it for a couple of seconds, cooling the molten porridge down to an edible temperature.
Once she had food in her mouth, she chewed delicately, watching as Matteo readied the next spoonful.
“How is it?” he asked, resting the spoon in the bowl to draw a few pieces of tissue paper, gently dabbing the corner of her lips.
“Your cooking skills have improved,” she praised.
Matteo hummed under his breath. He said nothing, but Amelia could read from his expression that he was utterly pleased with himself for receiving that simple compliment. She couldn’t help but laugh.
Then, a thought entered her mind, diminishing that smile quickly.
“Has there been any news of Aiden?” she asked.

It had been three days since Caleb Walton was arrested and Aiden had disappeared under the waves. Despite all the vessels that had been sent out to look for Aiden, there was no sign of him. The officers had scoured the waters and neighboring areas but nothing was found.
Even if he was dead, there should be a body. Alas, there was none.
Matteo’s expression turned grim.
“No,” he said. Before Amelia’s expression could fall further, Matteo placed the bowl of porridge down on the side table and held her hands. “But the officers have found a lead. There was a sighting in Serafield. We think it might be him. Law enforcement is currently looking into this lead.”
“Serafield?” Amelia repeated, shocked. “He drifted off that far? That’s at least a two-hour drive away from our location that night. Is that even possible?”
“The Coast Guard did say that the winds were strong that night,” Matteo said. “We’re just hoping that it is him. I have not broken the news to Catherine yet, and with everything that happened between her and my father, I don’t see a need to speak with that woman.”
Amelia nodded in understanding.
“We can only hope,” Amelia muttered under her breath. “When might they be able to check―”
Before Amelia could finish her sentence, the door to her room burst open. She jumped in her bed while Matteo’s head whipped around to look at the door, only to see that it was none other than Ronan who had burst in.
“Ronan!” Amelia exclaimed. “You scared us.”
Matteo, too, raised an eyebrow. “Would be nice if you knocked.”
Aiden made a face and shook his head, waving Matteo’s words off as if they were a small matter― and to his benefit, it was indeed a small matter compared to what he had to say.
“It’s Aiden,” he said. “They found him.”
