Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 109
Chapter 109: Ch 109: Is this a date?
“Boo! I feel bothered when you are so uptight, Charon. Why don’t you ever trust me and help me out? When have I ever led you astray? Come on and answer me right now!”
Fey sounded sad. She sounded more disappointed than sad, but Charon did not care.
The older beta rolled her eyes as she pulled her covers over her head and released.
“Fey, remember I know what you plan to do. And I refuse to make Flourite my enemy because you want me to. Rika, you be careful out there as well. Back out when you feel uncomfortable; no one will blame you.”
Charon assured Rika that her confidence almost made her want to back out.
Unfortunately, Fey notices Rika’s intentions and quickly grabs her arm to stop her from doing what she wants.
“Don’t do that! Don’t back out now. You promised to help me, so please see it through till the end. I promise it will not be anything too dangerous that I will make you do. Just help me out once! Please.”
Rika felt weak against Fey’s pleading.
Fey had been nothing but pleasant to Rika all this while. She made Rika feel she was with a friend rather than someone she did not know.
‘Oh! I am sure that I will regret my decision to help Fey out. I can feel the look Charon is giving me very clearly.’
But even if that were the case, Rika knew that she had made her decision and would not feel comfortable backing down.
“Fine! I said I would help you, so I will. What kind of help do you need from me?”
Rika asked with an almost regretful voice.
Charon’s eyes were filled with sympathy, but she also seemed to be telling Rika to put up with this shit because she chose it.
‘Ha! As if I did not have enough to worry about, this also joined the list. But at least I won’t have to think about Emily and Damian for a while if I am busy helping Fey out.’
Rika tried her hardest not to let her thoughts wander toward her alpha friends and what happened between them.
The less Rika thought about it, the better she could function normally. But even then, Rika could not wholly empty her mind.
It was distracting to think about, and Rika’s mind wandered in that direction alone.
“Hey Rika! Let’s go ahead and get going now. I will tell you what I am planning and why on our way to our destination. Don’t worry too much! I won’t ask too much out of you. Well, maybe a single shopping trip! But nothing more than that.”
Fey suddenly linked her arms with Rika and dragged the youngest beta out of the room.
Shuu followed seconds later, not wanting to leave Rika alone with this deranged human who did not feel safe.
Charon was left alone in that empty room. She sighed before pulling his covers over her face. She fell asleep within seconds.
This was one of the days when she felt off. And she had no intention of doing much for the day. So, sleep sounded like a fantastic idea to her tired mind.
…
“Have you ever shopped in here before? This is one of the high-end branded showrooms. I’ve heard that each dress here costs thousands of dollars. But don’t worry about the cost today. I will treat you and buy you a dress. All you need to do is relax and get pampered.”
Charon had a happy expression as she dragged Rika into that store.
The older beta continued speaking or allowed Rika to counter and tell any information about herself.
Rika shouldn’t have spoken much, but her ears started to bleed after she heard nonstop chattering from the older beta.
“Welcome, valued customer! Oh my! Fey! It has been ages since you last came here. Do you know how much new stuff came in since you were absent? Come! Take a look around and see if you like anything. Your friend is welcome here as well.”
Rika turned her attention from the shop to the receptionist, who looked delighted to see Charon and her walk into the store.

It was Rika’s first time being greeted this enthusiastically, and she was baffled by how genuinely happy the receptionist seemed at her presence.
“Sorry! I was running low on funds until now. But worry not! I am here to spend money today, not on myself but on my friend. I need to get her a dress that will make her ‘stand out’ in a room. You got anything in store for me?”
The receptionist looked taken aback for a minute, but then she looked at Rika with a knowing look.
A sly grin took over the receptionist’s face as something clicked in her mind.
“Ah, I see! So that is what’s happening here? You finally found someone you like, Fey. So, is this a date?”
The receptionist asked. For the second time that day, Rika felt baffled.
Fey’s face was redder by the minute, and she looked simultaneously baffled and embarrassed.
“I…this is not…. fuck you! Stop teasing me here. This is not a date, and I am here for something important. I want Rika to dress nicely because I want to fool someone. You don’t need to know the details.”
Rika felt mixed emotions and even had difficulty believing what Fey was saying.
The receptionist looked delighted to see Fey in such a dilemma.
“Oh dear! Denial is not a good look on someone as fashionable as you, Fey. No one will like you if you continue to be this Tsundere. Now, be confident and ask your crush out. This is a safe space for you-”
“Shut up! I think you’ve embarrassed me enough. Rika, wipe this memory off your mind. You don’t need to think of anything this cringe. Here, go and try this dress. I will browse more dresses for you. Just go and change into this for now.”
