Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 126
Chapter 126: Ch 126: No! You can’t!
“Now come on and be bright once more, Suzie. Please give me that lovely smile of yours. Good! Now, let’s go down and sweep those alphas of yours off their feet.”
Mark sounded confident and knew he was also helping Suzie raise her morale.
Suzie looked at her brother with determined eyes for the first time in forever. They had a familiar fire in them that made Mark proud.
“You are right, Mark. Not everyone will fall in love with me just because I exist. This is not a fairy tale, and my life is not a story. I will try to make one of my chosen alphas fall in love with me.”
Suzie made a fist in determination as she stood up and ran to her closest.
Mark opened his mouth to tell Suzie that she could take it easy. But as soon as he reached out for her, he stopped.
His younger sister had decided, and he doubted there would be any way to change it now.
When the pair arrived downstairs, there was a weird atmosphere.
Their parents looked far too serious as they sat at the dining table. Panic filled the air, and confused and terrified pheromones reached Mark’s nose.
The concentration of pheromones was also too thick to be natural.
Mark’s first concern was not knowing what happened but figuring out if Suzie was alright.
She had always been sensitive to pheromones, and this much concentration could send her into shock if it were not appropriately managed.
Thankfully, Suzie’s new medicine seemed to work wonders for her body, and she did not look to be in pain.
“Mom, Dad, is everything alright? You look…. worried. Did the Lunch not go well? Where is everyone? I thought Rika would stay behind longer since we are a family.”
Suzie brought up her older sister as a complaint. It was a deliberate tactic on her part, and she often used it to make Rika out to be the bad guy.
By subtly hinting that Rika was supposed to be here and that she did not stay back, Suzie could plant the seed of people’s perceptions of Rika as a lousy person and make herself feel better.
This tactic she had used in the past, and it had never failed to help her out.
So, she did not expect her Father to make a frustrated face and raise her voice.
“This is no Rika’s fault. S-She had her reasons for leaving. Don’t negatively talk about her for this.”
Suzie opened her mouth to look at her father, then closed it. With her current behaviour, she loomed like a goldfish.
Even Mark looked taken aback by what just happened.
His father was the last person he expected to take Rika’s side.
The Father also looked stunned, but he tried to justify his reasoning.
“I…I am sorry! I did not mean to snap at you. I am just panicking because Rika got sick when she arrived here. Emily and Damian took her to the hospital because of her condition, and Andrew Tweten left with them because he said he had connections that would help.”
“But it is nothing serious for you to be worried about. How about you both sit down and eat lunch now? It will all go to waste otherwise.”
Mark’s eyes narrowed once he heard his father’s words.
Suzie seemed to accept his father’s words and excuses without masking a question, but Mark was different.
He could tell that there was something still bugging his father.
‘Father is downplaying this incident. I can tell he is shaking but doing his best, so neither Suzie nor I find out. It makes me want to know what the hell happened here.’
Mark looked at his mother from the corner of his eyes. She was the only one who could give him the answer he sought.

But the way she turned her head away and refused to look at Mark meant that she did not want to talk to him about what happened.
*Sigh*
“It looks like I have no choice but to sit and eat. But I am disappointed by what happened. Why did Rika have to get sick now, of all time? Could she not have chosen another day? This sucks.”
Mark immediately looked at the staff, and their eyes told him everything he wanted to know.
They all looked at Suzie and pinned her down to be a spoilt brat who did not know a thing. The lack of respect in their eyes made Mark mad at them.
His glare forced all the staff to look away in shame, making Mark feel better.
‘Yeah! That’s it, you morons! You have no right to look at Suzie with your dirty eyes. She is far superior to any of you, after all.’
“I will be going to visit Rika after lunch. I will likely be out for a long time, so if I don’t answer your call, it is likely because I am busy.”
Mark’s attention snapped from the rude maids to his mother instantly as soon as she spoke these words.
He could not believe he heard these words from his mother’s mouth.
And neither could Suzie if her wide eyes and gaping mouth were anything to go by.
“Don’t give me that look of disbelief. I have done the same for any of you in the past. Now that Rika needs me, I want to be there for her. I will keep you all informed about her condition-”
“No! You cannot! You cannot be by Rika’s side today, Mom! You promised me you would go to the saloon with me. I had been waiting for this day for weeks! You promised!”
Suzie blew up before her mother could finish speaking.
Her voice was tender, and she looked ready to cry. Mark immediately felt terrible for her and wanted to make Suzie feel better.
That was why he instantly turned toward his mother. But one look at her face told him she would not change her mind.
