Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 127
Chapter 127: Ch 127: Firm Decisions
“Suzie, this is not up for debate. I might have promised you a saloon date, but my priorities have changed. If you cannot understand this, I am afraid I have nothing more to say to you.”
Suzie felt like the ground had been dragged out from under her feet.
Her mouth opened and closed in shock for the second time that day. But it hurt even more this time because her mother had been so direct.
“B-But you promised me! You have never gone back on a promise before. S-So why are you doing it this time? I do not understand…”
Suzie tried to make her mother reconsider by dropping hints in the conversation.
She was sure her mother understood what she was not saying out loud.
But despite her clear indication to make her mother realise that she was doing wrong, Suzie ended up pissing her off even more.
“Well, yes! I promised you the date, but I must head out now. We’ve been over this topic already, Suzie. You need to grow up and realise I cannot keep pampering and pushing back essential tasks just because you want me to. The world does not work like that.”
There was silence after Natasha finished speaking.
Suzie’s expression turned ghastly at her mother’s harshness.
“I will be heading out now. Dear, do you have anything to say to me?”
Natasha Goodwill turned to her husband, but Suzie knew she had to get to know her father first.
That was why she shot the man with tear-filled, desperate eyes. She needed this man to be on her side.
That was the only way to make her mother reconsider her decisions.
As expected, her father melted under Suzie’s pleading look and decided to ask his wife again to put Suzie first.
“M-My dear! Why don’t you go with Suzie and then visit Rika at the hospital? Going after Rika right now might overwhelm her. We should give her some time to calm down and-”
Suzie felt happy when her father argued on her behalf.
Now that she had her father on her side, Suzie would surely win her mother’s heart and favour.
But what happened next stunned her and even her father.
“That will be enough. I am not willing to listen anymore on this topic. Just imagine if this was Mark or even Suzie instead of Rika. Would you have waited around like this before seeing them? Then, I do not need to hear anything more.”
Suzie immediately wanted to argue that there was a difference between her and Mark being in the hospital and Rika’s visit.
But even Mark kept quiet this time and looked ashamed of what happened.
That made Suzie realise that she had lost to Rika this time.
‘Fuck! I will not forgive you for taking Mother’s attention away from me, Rika! I cannot believe you are putting on a show of being sick just to get your mother’s attention. But I assure you that it is not going to work.’
Although her mother might be paying attention to Rika now, Suzie would ensure this attention remained temporary. There was no way Suzie would allow Rika to take her mother away from her.
“C-Come on, Suzie. There is no need to be disappointed because your mother is not here with you today. Why don’t you have fun with Mark and me? I will also make a better Saloon partner for you, right?”
Suzie looked at her father’s painted expression with a gleeful joy in her heart.
She knew that at least her father would never betray her for Rika and change sides. He was too obsessed with Suzie to do that.
And it was all because of her efforts to monopolise her father’s attention.
‘Enjoy mother’s attention while it lasts, Rika. She will come back to me in the end. She will soon realise there is no need to keep being near a useless beta.’

‘After all, the perfect family structure is a bonded pair with their alpha older son and omega young daughter. You are the only dark spot in our useless family.’
This is what all the books and the internet said. It is also what everyone said about a perfect family.
And Suzie knew that her family would become perfect as soon as everyone realised they did not need Rika.
But the one who makes them realise this would have to be Suzie.
‘Our family is imperfect, so Emily and Damian do not like me. It must also be the reason Andrew Tweten did not want me. It is all because of Rika!’
…
The hospital was quiet, and the nurse observed the familiar pair of Alphas in front of them for the fourth time that week.
However, the striking duo was a trio.
An unknown alpha accompanied the panicking pair; he looked just as handsome as the other two.
Despite this visual stimulus, no one dared approach that group. The simple reason for this was the thick cloud of pheromones surrounding it.
Even stepping close felt like stepping into a pheromone-laced landline that could explode any second.
The group had been sitting at the same spot for about half an hour when the door opened, and the hospital director came out.
“I warned you often not to let her get excited and lose control. The situation was hazardous this time. I am afraid that we cannot delay her development into an omega now. There is no way to stop this process either.”
“The patient’s quick thinking of injecting herself with suppressants might have saved her life this time. But don’t expect there to be a second time.”
Four pairs of cautious eyes looked at the beta doctor, and everyone turned toward the newest addition to the hall with a terrified look.
“What is going on here? What is the meaning of all this? Is anyone going to explain what is happening?”
Natasha Goodwill was a public figure with considerable fame. To see her standing in the middle of the hallway and demanding an explanation was asking for a scandal.
The old director sighed tiredly as she faced the situation.
