Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 131
Chapter 131: Ch 131: Be my chosen
“E-excuse me! I will be back in just a second. …stay here and do not go anywhere, Rika. Our talk is not over yet.”
Rika looked at her mother’s expression, which made her complexion look even paler than it was.
It looked as if her mother was about to get rid of her lunch in her stomach, and the doctor quickly showed her the bathroom before returning to Rika’s side.
“Your mother’s denial is understandable. However, both she and you must come to terms with your reality. You cannot stop your transformation just because you want to.”
“It will come to pass, no matter what. So, you better be prepared for it to happen mentally. Do you want me to recommend you a therapist for this?”
The old beta lady asked with a knowing glint in her eyes.
Rika ignored the old lady while being fully aware that she was right. Rika could not overlook her body forever.
Sooner or later, she would make a drastic decision that would change her life trajectory.
But that moment was still a little bit further into the future. And until her problem came on top of Rika’s to risk her life, she would like to ignore it completely.
“I can see I am not getting to you this time either. Well, I cannot force you to do something you don’t want to.”
With a sigh, the doctor walked toward the door, and Rika knew she had won this round.
But when she felt this triumph, the doctor turned back for one last time, looking at her knowingly.
“Don’t treat your body like a tool you can ignore forever. The next time you find yourself in this situation might be the last. This is a warning to be careful and to make a swift decision.”
The beta finally left Rika alone, and Rika could not stop her heart from skipping a beat at that threat.
Rika had just now understood the gravity of her situation. But it was finally beginning to strike her just how dangerous she was until Rika leaned her back on the bedrest and relaxed her body.
The exhaustion and unfairness of the situation hit her suddenly.
She had not been joking when she told her mother that she had finally started to find her place.
But what use was it all when Rika had lost who she was all over again?
And this time, it was a chance that could only be avoided if Rika did it.
The room was silent, and it left Rika with her destructive thoughts.
‘Should I end it all? Living is annoyingly painful. Mother would be disappointed, and father would likely cry. I don’t think Suzie would care, and Mark…well, he’s a toss-up. Emily would throw a fit, and Damian might kill a few dozen people in danger.’
‘But I am sure that they will recover soon. Once they recover from this shock, I am sure they would be much happier than having me around. My life was not worth much in the end-‘
Rika caught herself in time before she stabbed herself with the knife and made her wrist bleed.
She never realised just how destructive her thoughts had turned suddenly. Being left alone had taken a toll on her fragile mental health.
“Ha! Just what did I try to do? I know I talked about it, but I did not mean actually to try to kill myself. Yeah! It must have been a one-time fluke!”
Rika felt shaken up. Too much had happened at this point for her to return to everyday life.
The beta doctor returned with Emily and Damian in the toe. Andrew Tweten was even there, and his presence made Rika seem odd.
“I will let you all talk now; after that, we can talk about what to do about your condition. Whether you want to remain a beta is no longer in your hands.”
The doctor dropped that bomb before leaving.
Adjusting to her new dynamic would take Rika some time, and coming to terms with her new identity would take even longer.

“You don’t have to live like an omega if you don’t want to. There are easy to hide yourself away as a beta if you have stable Alpha support. If you would want us to help you, please tell me. Both I am Damian are here for you.”
Emily assured Rika with a determined look on her face.
Looking at her made Rika feel calm. Her instincts recognised Emily as essential, and they accepted her.
Rika was sure they recognised her and Damian as her ‘alphas.’
‘No! I should not think like that! Just because Emily is kind to me does not mean she is interested in me. I was her beta best friend until now. And besides, she is with Damian! I should not expect anything from them.’
Despite Rika’s knowledge, her heart refused to comply with her mind.
Rika was afraid that she would somehow ruin her friendship with the alpha pair at this rate.
That was why she forced herself to look at the only person unrelated to herself at the moment – Andrew Tweten.
He stood in the back of the room but looked the most composed.
His presence calmed Rika down; before she knew it, she had been staring at him for a whole minute.
She was so focused on her feelings and did not want to look at Emily and Damian that she did not notice how the alpha pair glared at Andrew with hostility and caution.
A lot of tension in the air made Rika slowly feel sick.
Andrew recognised the tension in the air, mainly because he was so used to sensing it, and finally moved to the front of Rika’s bed.
“I know we have not known each other for ages, Rika Goodwill. But I would like to extend my hand to help you out. Your transformation would go much more smoothly if you had an alpha.”
“So, if you don’t have a chosen mate, would you give me the honour of being your chosen mate for the time being?”
