Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 136
Chapter 136: Ch 136: We accept you
“-too tired…. fell asleep…. will inform you next time…”
Rika blinked as her senses returned. With her consciousness came back the knowledge of everything she had done that day.
‘Shit! What kind of ridiculous movie plot did I go through? My head hurts, but my consciousness is even worse. I can’t look anyone in the face after what happened.’
Rika did not want to look up, but when people turned to look at her, they discovered she was awake.
“You woke up. How are you feeling?”
Damian asked with a beat. He was calm and looked unaffected by the embarrassing memories going through Rika’s head.
His solid chest was under Rika’s hand, and it sent shivers down her skin. She could vividly picture that chest pushing up against her breasts as Rika was squeezed tightly and kissed within every inch of her life.
The imagination was so vivid that it felt like it happened to her. Rika could even remember the feeling of lips and a tongue in her mouth, caressing her all over and-
‘DON’T THINK ABOUT IT! TRY AND REMEMBER WHERE YOU ARE.’
Rika forcefully turned her mind away before it could go down the gutter. It made her not want to look at Damian for fear of changing her mind.
Thankfully, the familiar setting of her surroundings helped Rika return to her senses and realize that she was no longer in the hospital.
“This is-”
Rika started to speak, but the dorm lady quickly noticed she was awake and pulled her out of Damian’s arms.
“Are you alright, Rika? You are ending up in the medical room too often for my liking. As the one who has taken over the task of looking over you, this worries me.”
The dorm lady likely did not intend to pressure Rika, but that was what she was doing.
Her words and actions made it impossible for Rika to respond to her worries with an ‘I am fine’ because she knew the form lady would not accept that excuse.
“I should head to my room now. Well, I will be skipping my job today. At this rate, I might get fired by my boss.”
Rika complained, quickly turning her attention away from her job instead.
“I will take care of it. Half of what is happening is Rocxx’s fault anyway. There is no need for you to be worried about anything, Rika. Let me and Dami handle my cousin. I will meet you later.”
Emily waved Rika goodbye and finally left.
Rika almost believed she was safe when her dorm lady stopped her from moving inside by touching her shoulder.
“Wait a minute. Rika, since when did you know Emily Steinz? Is the Goodwill in your name actually ‘that’ Goodwill family? I never expected…! But it makes so much sense now. That female alpha was Emily Steinz, right?”
The dorm lady was working things out.
Rika expected her to look shocked, but the dorm lady did not show any particular expression.
She just looked relieved to have her questions answered.
Her silence made Rika feel nervous. She did not know what the dorm lady was planning in her head, but Rika did not want to be booted out of this dorm. She liked living here.
“Are you going to kick me out now? I should start packing my bags and looking for a new place to move to. Can you give me some time-”
Rika was quickly interrupted by the dorm lady and her humorous expression.
“J-Just wait a minute there. Who said anything about kicking you out of the dorms? I was slightly surprised by what happened, but I do not intend to kick you out. After all, you never lied or tried to hide your family from me.”
The dorm lady reminded Rika about this, but Rika still did not feel safe.

Her worries continued to creep into her mind, and the dorm lady finally sighed and decided not to speak anymore.
“Just head back to your room now. Did you have lunch already, or would you like me to reheat some leftovers? Should I bring lunch to your room?”
The dorm lady asked in a gentle voice.
It was the same kind and familiar voice she always used with Rika. It made Rika feel better about her situation, and her nerves calmed down slowly.
“I will head up now. And I am sorry for all that happened. I will keep my family life far away from here.”
Rika knew that her family was in trouble, so she offered this.
But the dorm lady just shook her head, indicating that Rika should not be worried about such minor details.
“It’s okay! We accept you here for who you are, Rika. Your family background is included in it. You do not need to act or feel guilty about anything as long as it does not harm anyone.”
Those words were like a soothing balm to Rika’s soul. She could not believe she was hearing these words in her life.
Rika quickly climbed her stairs but slowed down as soon as she approached her room.
The door was locked tight, and the Shuu was sitting in front of the door, waiting patiently.
He jumped Rika as soon as she was close enough to smell, and Rika now had to deal with a puppy that wanted to play with her.
“Sorry for neglecting you all the time, Shuu. But I tried to play with you today as well. How about you go and find Fey? She always has the energy to entertain you.”
Rika asked if the puppy could have given her a death glare, and he would have.
It was good that Rika lived in a communal house with many members. It meant that someone always had the time and energy to care for Shuu for her.
“Good boy. Let me see if I have a snack in my room for you.”
Rika twisted the handle of her door so that it would not move.
Someone had locked the door from the inside, and there could have been only one culprit.
