Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 145
Chapter 145: Ch 145: Late attendence
Rika was worried about Charon. Her worry showed up on her face, and Fey looked relieved to see Rika look this worried for her friend.
“It looks like you are worried for Charon. That means I can leave Charon to you. Please look after her well and ensure that nothing happens to her. Please let us know if you need any help from Flourite or me. We will always be available to help you out.”
Fey promised while fisting her hands in a fighting manner.
Rika did not want any help from Fey, and she did not want to damper her mood. That was why she agreed readily, and Fey breathed a sigh of relief.
A cherry hand reached out toward Rika and grabbed her hand quickly.
“I knew we could count on you, Rika. I will leave everything up to you from here. Remember, we are always there for help if you need it.”
Those words put too much pressure on Rika, and she suddenly felt nervous. She did not know what else to do but to stand there like a bot and let Fey do what she wanted.
Thankfully, Flourite was far more subtle and sensitive than Fey. He pulled his sister back by her shirt when he realised what she was doing.
He also looked sorry when he looked at Rika, and his eyes held his apology.
“I am so sorry for Fey’s actions. I know she means well, but she should not press you to help us like this. Still, getting your help in this regard would be nice.”
Flourite was a diplomat’s thought and thought.
His words made it sound like he was worried for Rika, but Rika knew how to read under the lines, and she understood what Flourite wanted from her.
‘Ah, that is an excellent way to manipulate someone. It’s almost like good cop, bad cop. Not that I mind in this case. I want to help Charon out as well.’
Rika did not call the twins out on their behaviour. She did not want to make a mountain out of a molehill.
Once things calmed down, Rika went back to her room. But her eyes quickly shifted toward Charon’s direction.
The female was fast asleep, and it did not seem as if she had overdosed on sleeping medicines.
Tomorrow was the first day of college, and Rika felt nervous. She was anxious not only for herself but also for Charon.
‘Will she be alright? Somehow, I need help seeing Charon heading anywhere in her current state. Should I wake her up and talk to her?’
Rika desperately wanted to clear out the air between her and Charon. She felt the need to talk to the older despite the dangers and consequences this could have.
But Rika was a coward and decided to back down in the end.
“Oh well! Charon is already asleep. There is no point in me waking her up for a talk. I will talk to her tomorrow and clear out the air.”
Ultimately, Rika pushed the two the next day and fell asleep.
…
“Oi! Wake up, or you will be late. Shuu, what are you doing? You need to help me wake Rika before she makes a bad impression on the first day of college. Help me out here.”
Rika’s vision focused on that familiar face smiling and panicking in front of her.
Charon looked happy and chipper once more. It was nice to see Rika unconsciously holding her hand toward her face before realising what she was doing.
Her arm ached due to the poor pose Rika had slept in, and Rika’s mind instantly snapped to attention once she realised that Charon was awake already.
This was a first in many days, and Rika pushed her body up in shock.
“You are awake, Charon? What happened the past few days? Moreover, why did you wake up so early?”
Rika asked worriedly, but Charon looked at her as if she had no idea what Rika was talking about.

“Huh? What are you talking about? Also, it is earlier than you think it is. You should do your morning routine to arrive on time for your classes. It is already about 07. Classes start at 8:00 sharp.”
Charon reminded Rika, but she was still a little disoriented by what Charon was saying.
It clicked almost 15 minutes later what Charon had said, and Rika took the fastest bath of her life and her morning routine.
She hurriedly ran down the stairs and sat down at the table.
Rika had tried her best to be fast, but she was still the last to arrive with fifteen minutes to spare.
“Slow down while eating, Rika. No one is after you to harm you. You can take your time with your food.”
The dorm lady reminded Rika to slow down. But Rika had no time to slow down. She scarfed her face even faster as time passed, leaving quite a bit uneaten once, with only 10 minutes left for her to run.
“I’m sorry! I cannot miss the orientation ceremony and want to be on time. I will talk to you later, miss! I will also have the leftovers later.”
Rika ran as if her life depended on it. And her social life might be dependent on this opening ceremony…. or that was what Rika felt in her heart.
The dorm lady looked at the unfinished food with a tired sigh.
“Poor girl! This happens every year. They are excited to head to the college early and make good impressions on teachers and other students. Unfortunately, the reality is often more disappointing than a fantasy.”
Just as the dorm lady was finished picking up Rika’s dishes, Flourite walked into the room with a yawn.
He had yet to get ready, and Fey was not even awakened. Even Charon had things she had to do before heading to school.
“You are late. Are you going to be late to college this time as well?”
The dorm lady asked with a tired sigh, and Flourite only shrugged.
“I might as well be late. No one is going to show up on time anyway.”
Unfortunately, these words were valid.
