Chapter 151: Ch 151: Medical intervention
[Hello? Are you alright, sir? Should we track you down? Please respond on the other side!]
The medical officer who asked Rika these questions understood that Rika was stressed right now and she was being incredibly patient.
But despite knowing that, there was a limit to this call’s duration.
Rika knew she needed to make a sound and tell the medics what had happened. But she could not comprehend what to say, much less what to tell the professional on the other end of the phone.
“Give the phone here! You are too stunned right now, Rika. Pull yourself together for now.”
Fey was more level-headed than Rika, and she handled the phone.
It took Rika a few seconds to gather herself. The more she calmed down, the more she realised she had overreacted.
Rika had seen people’s heads being blown off, and she had even seen people being beaten within an inch of their lives. She had seen all kinds of gruesome details of life without flinching.
But this minor incident made her speechless and unable to think correctly.
Moreover, Rika could feel her body getting heavier by the second, knowing she was releasing distressing pheromones.
Thankfully, Fey was a beta, and Rika’s release amount needed to be more significant for everyone to notice.
Shuu rubbed his tiny body against Rika’s to try to comfort her, and Rika quickly gathered the fluff ball in her arms.
Rika had calmed down by the time Fey finished the call, and she gave Rika her phone back.
“The medics said that they will be here soon. Are you feeling alright now? You looked rather sick when you first saw Charon. But don’t worry too much. Professional help is on the way.”
Fey assured Rika while reaching out to place a comforting hand on her shoulder.
Now that Rika had calmed down again, she could breathe easier and control herself.
She felt ashamed for having lost her cool and ending up like this. This is her fault for losing her cool like this.
‘I don’t think I’ve ever behaved like this before. Tsk, I don’t know if it was because of the shock or my becoming an omega. Well, whatever the case was, I don’t like it.’
Rika bit her lip before she forced herself to move.
The shock might have worn off mentally, but left some physical scars on Rika. That included not being able to move her body as she wanted to.
Despite that, Rika dragged herself to Charon’s side to check on her.
Charon’s heartbeat was weak, and her breathing was shallow. Her skin was sweaty but cold. It all pointed to her not being right, and Rika wondered how long the older beta had been like this.
Rika had been her roommate for about a month, and until the past few days, she had never noticed how close Charon was to the edge.
But even then, Rika did not take Charon’s condition seriously and regretted it much more than expected.
“Hey, it is not your fault. Charon was good at putting up appearances in front of other people. You also had a busy life where you were not in the dorm much. Stop blaming yourself for this when it is not your fault.”
Charon’s words were like a soothing balm to Rika’s soul. They helped her heal and tone down her worries about this being her fault.
Despite the assurance, a part of Rika firmly blamed herself for what happened.
Rika had the power to see and know Charon better. But she chose to disregard Charon’s suffering even when she had a chance to check it out.
‘I have no excuse for my actions. This all happened because of me, and I can do nothing about it. I should have pushed Charon last night. Fuck! I should have grilled her with questions and not allowed her to dodge them.’
Rika felt helpless but also guilty.

She could see a little bit of her situation and willingness to dodge the question in Charon, which made Rika afraid of what would happen to her.
“Rika, Fey, what happened? The medics are in the room and…Oh my god! Did something happen to Charon? Let me call the medics in right now.”
The dorm lady opened the door wider before running down and letting the medics in.
A team of four walked inside and checked up on Charon before loading her into the stretcher to take her to the hospital.
“It looks like a sleeping pill overdose. We will have to pump her stomach to check the damage done. Is there anyone else who is hurt?”
The doctor asked worriedly, and Rika was about to say no when Fey decided to interfere.
“I think Rika and I are in shock right now. I-I cannot tell myself, but it will be better if we get checked out.
Rika felt detached from the situation, and things instantly felt better.
Now that she had isolated herself from the situation, she could tell that Fey was panicking in more ways than one, and Rika felt stupid for not realising that the older beta was also in shock.
“Do you both have any regular doctors you go to? If you do, I prefer to call them before we take you in. There might be things you do not want to tell us-”
It felt like divine intervention that the doctor said this.
He might have said this because he did not want to make his load heavier or genuinely wanted to help the patients.
But his words helped Rika look at the situation with a calmer outlook. She was able to recall that she had a condition she did not want anyone to find out about.
“I have a regular doctor who tends to me. I will call her in and see if she is available.”
Rika offered, and the medic looked relieved to see that Rika had been cared for.
On the other hand, Charon did not have anything like that because she came from an average family.
‘When I asked god for a distraction from my situation, this was not what I meant.’
