Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 181
Chapter 181: Ch 181: Let’s lie low
Rika has seldom attacked anyone out of her own will. She usually used it as a defence mechanism in a pinch.
However, it did not feel like that this time.
For some reason, Rika felt cornered, but even she could tell that her situation was not bad. The alpha before her was neither threatening Rika nor telling her anything absurd.
He was standing in front of her with an irritating grin. And sometimes, even that was enough to get on your nerves.
Rika’s attack was solid, but unfortunately, the alpha was a bit better than she expected, and he managed to block Rika easily.
Not one to give up easily, Rika used the momentum of her attack to carry her forward and change her attack pattern. She wanted to catch this man off guard and finish him off.
But even that did not work because the more significant alpha instantly recognised what Rika was trying to do.
‘Troublesome! He’s so troublesome! Shit! I am going to tire myself out at this rate.’
Rika usually did not have any problem fighting for hours usually. But her body was tired and throbbing today. She did not have enough power to last the whole fight.
So, Rika wanted to end the fight before she got too tired to continue. She had planned something out when the alpha before her paused with a frown.
“Well, this was fun. Unfortunately, we need to stop here today. Our lunch break is over, and we must get to class on time. But let’s do it again if we get a chance.”
The older-seeking Alpha had the momentum of this situation. He could have ended Rika if he wanted to since she was tired.
But instead of seeking more problems with Rika, he decided to be sensible and pull himself back.
John had no morals, and he wanted to finish what he started. He had finally regained consciousness, and he looked poised.
“Tsk, our friend lost interest in you and decided to spare you. But just because he did that does not mean I will do the same. You should prepare yourself to fight against me next-”
John had just finished speaking when the older alpha who fought Rika reacted and punched John in the face.
A loud but satisfying crunch echoed across the room, and everyone flinched at the apparent fracture noise.
“Oops! Looks like I slipped and was unable to prevent this accident from happening. You should go to a doctor and check yourself before this damage becomes permanent.”
John looked struck as he reached out to touch his nose.
There was no blood, but breathing was a bitch for him right now. Everything throbbed, and his nose felt dislocated.
“Y-You psycho! What is wrong with you? How could you do this to me after all I did for you? It would be best if you were grateful to me for allowing you to hang out with my gang. I want compensation-”
That was the wrong thing to say to that half-smiling man. The older alpha’s smile drained from his face, and he suddenly looked much more dangerous like this than he did before.
“Listen here, Jean or whatever your name is. I only joined your party because you annoyed me enough when we met. I have no desire to become your friend. I told you this during our first meeting. Now, do you understand where you stand before me?”
The unnamed alpha had grabbed John by his neck, and he held his body above the ground.
It was clear just how strong this man was to be able to do this to another human being. Rika felt lucky that she had gotten off relatively freely compared to this alpha.
‘Let’s run away while these two are fighting. It will be a disaster if I am caught between these two.’
Rika feels that Damian and Emily would want to become involved in her affairs if Rika ever told them what happened.
But she was also aware enough to know that she would not be able to hide anything from the alpha pair.
After all, Rika remembered why that teacher looked so familiar in the morning. He was one of Emily’s men who infiltrated the college and was now looking around for something.
Rika suspected it was to keep an eye on her, but she did not want to jump to conclusions.

She slipped off before anyone else could drag her into something troublesome and headed towards her last class for the day.
The news of what happened at lunch spread across the campus like wildfire. That was all people could talk about the whole day Rika was there. She even choked on air a few times when she heard the exaggerated rumours about her.
Thankfully, most people did not know the truth about what happened. They only knew that a new short beta took down the resident alpha bully, John, as if it was nothing, and that exact beta also managed to instigate a fight in the campus ‘cool alpha’ group.
But since no one came to bother Rika about it, she could only conclude that they did not know that she had done all this. Otherwise, they would not have left them alone.
The only thing known about what happened was that a short, black-haired beta was involved. But that description could be used for about half of the beta population. Even the gender was not specified in the rumours.
People enjoyed the situation while it lasted, and Rika intended to keep her head down for a while.
But she should know better than to plan such things. She was caught not even two hours after she made this plan.
And how else could be the culprit other than the alpha that started it all? He put his arms around Rika without realising he was there and pulled her close.
Rika opened her mouth to yell, but he put his hand on her mouth to make her quieten down.
“Shh, don’t yell now. I am not here to harm you.”
