Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 187
Chapter 187: Ch 187: Should I buy it?
“Rika, are you sure you do not want to leave your uni for a better one? We can arrange a nice one where you can be safe…. I will keep my thoughts to myself.”
Emily trailed off as she spoke.
It was clear that Rika was not in the mood to hear her out about her decision of where she wanted to study.
Damian had a different idea from Rika’s, and his eyes flashed when he looked at Rika.
“Should we make our bond permanent? It will be much better to protect than this temporary marking. People will also stop bothering you about most things.”
It sounded like a tempting offer, and Rika almost said yes before remembering that Damian was proposing this idea.
He always had a trick up his sleeve.
“What are you planning in return for this?”
Rika asked with an almost hesitant expression on her face. But Damian looked nearly offended that Rika would even think like that.
“I love you. Why would I play a trick on you when I get what I want by marking you permanently? The only thing I want out of this is you, Rika.”
The blush on Rika’s face gradually spread across her neck and her ears.
Rika had never heard Damian sound like this.
And neither had Emily if her startled expression was anything to go by.
“Shit! I never expected you to have a human emotion in your body, Dami! You were always like a cold and ruthless machine. Thinking that you care so much about Rika… tears my eyes. Oh my! How beautiful!”
Emily brought her hands up to her chest and struck a dramatic pose.
Rika let out a joyous laugh at the female alpha’s theatrics. Around the dining table, the atmosphere was calm and serene.
But Rika knew her life well.
The fact that Damian had brought up the topic of permanent marks meant that he was worried about something more than unwanted attention coming Rika’s way.
“So, when are you both going to get busy? Since Emily had already initiated her family’s business, I assume Damian is also scheduled to take the inheritance test soon. Has the dare been decided?”
Rika asked the pair, and they sighed in unison.
“We cannot hide anything from you, can we? You are right. The inheritance date for Damian’s trial has been set. It’s one month from now, so he will become swamped starting now. God! What a lousy timing for all this to happen.”
Emily spoke in an irritated voice. She was unhappy about how things were developing in her life and around Rika.
The beta-omega hybrid was not stable, and her cycle was irregular. She did not want to leave her alone.
But the circumstances brewing did not allow her to do that.
“I know what you are worried about, Emily. And I understand it as well. But I don’t think you should be that worried about me. I can take care of myself just fine. I know how to pass as a beta just fine.”
Rika assured the pair, but they did not look relieved by her answer.
It made Rika nervous, and she wanted to know what was wrong. However, Emily decided to change the issue before she could speak anymore.
“Anyway, we will send people to keep an eye on you. I am worried that Mark or your mother will take this chance to try to make up with you. Do not forgive them easily, alright, Rika? You must be firm with them, or they will walk over you.”
Emily reminded Rika about this.
Truthfully, Rika had forgotten about her reach out to you to keepfamily until it was brought up again. But she did realise how her mother’s involvement could escalate things quickly.

“I will be careful. I am sure it will be fine. I will call you if I have any major issues during this time frame.”
Rika promised with an earnest heart.
“We said we will be busy. We never said we would leave you alone for the whole duration. One of us will contact you to maintain this temporary mark. You don’t have to worry about anything.”
Damian promised this as he rubbed his hand against Rika’s exposed neck. His touch felt cold and easy.
How easily Rika had adapted to her new position between the two alphas was scary. It was almost as if something just clicked, and they were not awkward.
Neither of the pair brought up their confession. Nor did they expect Rika to give a final verdict on her own.
Things were every day somehow, even if their relationship was not appropriately defined.
“Well, it looks like it’s getting late now. I should head home. And before you ask – no! I will not spend another night here. At this rate, I will spend more time outside the dorm than in it. I need to make the best of the money I spend there…. I also had a part-time job. Fuck! I forgot about it.”
Rika looked out the window, but it was too late to go to her job.
She was sure Daniel would not say anything to her, but his silent disapproval was evident on his face.
“Don’t worry about your job. I asked someone else to cover for you. But if you are worried about it, shall I buy that shop for you? Rocxx would not deny me if I asked him for it. You no longer have to worry about missing it if you own it.”
Emily offered with a straight face.
Rika wanted to be surprised, but she was not surprised at all. Emily was filthy rich, and unlike Rika, it was all her own money.
The offer was tempting but too much for Rika, and she felt overwhelmed by it.
“I…no thanks. I don’t think that is a solution I want to have for my problem. I want to live a calm and honest life, and I don’t think owning my workplace will help me.”
Rika denied Emily’s request, but she felt Emily would still do what she wanted to.
