Chapter 203: Ch 203: It’s your responsibility
As soon as Zhu Li heard Rika’s words, he fell silent. He did not know what to say to the beta anymore.

He did not want to say anything insensitive and cause Rika to take back her offer to help. So, he did not say anything and chose to remain quiet.

That was the best solution he could come up with, and Rika appreciated his effort to keep himself out of trouble.

“I don’t feel offended when someone brings up these topics. But I don’t want to talk about it if I refuse to answer. You don’t have to worry about offending me with your words.”

Rika assured the older male, and Zhu Li looked relieved.

“Now, we should get going. I want to attend work today. Let’s get going now.”

Rika turned away and walked toward the mafia district. She felt they needed to meet Rocxx and cooperate with him.

Zhu Li was slightly stunned but quickly shook his shock off and followed Rika. He knew he needed to catch up with her, or he would be left behind.

This was the first time he had worked with or even seen a beta like Rika. He was intrigued, and Rocxx wanted to know more about her.

Something about Rika was attracting his attention, and the alpha needed clarification. He was sure that he was only attracted to omegas.

‘Maybe Rika is unique, and I do not need to think or worry about what I feel for her so much. I should just let my emotions lead me. That would be for the best.’

Rocxx would be a pain to deal with.

Zhu Li was sure that the older alpha would try to cause problems. He might even try to calm Rika by saying things to her.

But Rika looked determined enough not to fall for those provocations.

‘Tsk, I will have to trust Rika on this. And if the worst comes to pass, I will carry out the plan alone with Rika and not involve Rocxx. I am only talking to him because it is polite to do so. But I don’t need him.’

Zhu Li did not have his workers with him on this toast. The people working under him were waiting for his signal to help him.

And he would use that advantage when he was sure he had no choice.

“No! I told you beforehand that we will not be involving Rika. So why the heck did you bring her here? And you! Do you want us all to die? Don’t you know what will happen if you get hurt? I don’t want to die so young.”

Rocxx clutched his head as he looked at the duo before him.

This was a nightmarish combination he never expected to see. But the alpha should have known better than to count on Rika to have common sense.

This was the one known to give everyone white hair a few years back with her wild behaviour.

“Rika, I thought you grew out of your rebellious phase and finally settled down as a calm and serene lady. Does this mean you are relapsing? Should I be worried about what is going on?”

Rocxx asked, ignoring the dominant alpha and turning toward Rika instead. She was the only one that mattered anyway.

The poor beta did not know whether to look amused or insulted, and her expression made Rocxx cringe as well.

But he held his reaction in and decided to be firm.

Finally, Rika decided to answer him.

“I am not being reckless or rebellious. I want to help you both since it feels like a big deal. A lot of people will be affected if this drug hits the market. My family might become a target for this drug as well.”

Rika complained, and anyone who heard her words would have felt touched.

Rocxx knew Rika had a strained relationship with her omega father and sister. So, this was either an excuse to let her participate, or Rika cared more about her family than he expected (despite the strained relationship they had)

“By the way, Rocxx. We are not here to ask for your permission but to tell you that I will be helping you out. So, you can accept this and help us out. Or we will do this without you and keep you out of the loop. The choice is yours to make.”

Rocxx looked at Zhu Li’s smiling face, and his head hurt just looking at that man. There was just so much that he wanted to say, but there was not enough time for him to be able to say it all.

Finally, the alpha realised that there was a disadvantage here.

He could either remain in the loop and interfere if things got dangerous or sit out and die once Emily and Damian found out what was happening.

“Fine! You both are leaving me with few choices here. I will participate and help you out. But if anyone asks, this was your idea, alright, Rika? I do not want to be impacted by your decisions and die an early death.”

Rocxx agreed, but he did so with conditions in place.

The beta understood why Rocxx was like this toward her. He was scared about his own life being in danger.

Both Emily and Damian had the potential to be scary when they wanted to be. Rika felt sorry for Rocxx for dealing with the pair on her behalf.

“Don’t worry. I will take responsibility for them and ensure they do not come after you. You won’t have anything to worry about, Rocxx.”

Rika assured him. But somehow, the alpha did not look relieved. Instead of looking relieved, Rocxx looked even more scared and annoyed.

*sigh*

“That is something I am afraid of. But I will accept your words for now and not interfere. Make sure you do not get hurt and come back in one piece. And if I die because of you, know that I will haunt you forever for this.”
