Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 217
Chapter 217: Ch 217: Informing Emily
Damian dropped the glass he clutched, and his tight grip made the table crack. His eyes burned when he looked at Rika to see if she was serious.
Rika met his gaze with her determined eyes, her resolve shining through.
She might not be as sure of her feelings as Damian was of his, but she did know that she did not want him to suffer through a heat. Her omega also demanded that she help the alpha as best as possible.
The combined factor of these things made Rika offer her help.
“I won’t let you take those words back now. If you want to run, now is the time.”
Damian warned, but his words did not sound as convincing as he was trying to make them out to be.
Rika felt he would chase her down if she tried to run away. So, there was no point in doing that right now.
Not that she wanted to run away.
She had promised to help Damian, and that was what she would do.
The alpha looked startled as Rika reached for his hand and clutched it. It made him look up at Rika with a hopeful glance, and Rika returned without hesitation.
“I won’t run away, and I won’t take my words back either. I want to help you in whatever way you want me to. What do you want me to do for you, Dami?”
Rika asked in a sincere voice.
The alpha bit his lip, but he did not jump Rika as she had expected.
Instead, he breathed a deep sigh before letting Rika’s hand go and gaining some distance.
“Alright, I understood! First, call Emily and tell her what is going to happen. I will gather supplies in the meantime. Otherwise, both of us will starve for the next two days. There is much to be done before my rut hits.”
Damian sounded a little awkward when he made these plans.
Somehow, Rika felt he did not do this when he was alone.
Damian was only being this generous because Rika was involved. And that thought brought a smile to Rika’s face.
‘He’s so good to me. Why did I think he was a mean block of ice before? Dami can be very expressive when he wants to be.’
“Call Emily. Otherwise, she will burst our door in the middle of my rut, and an accident will occur.”
Damian threw Rika’s phone toward her.
It surprised Rika since she was sure she had lost her phone during her kidnapping. She had expected never to see this phone again.
“Alright! I will call Emily. Do you need me to do anything else?”
Rika asked the busy alpha, but Damian shook his head at her.
“No need to think about anything else. I will take care of whatever else we need for my rut. You… do what makes you comfortable. You won’t be able to relax pretty soon.”
Damian promised before he disappeared from the room.
Whatever confidence Rika had in herself vanished as soon as he was out.
She could only clutch the phone she had been using and dial Emily’s number.
The alpha female picked it up in a single ring. Her voice sounded tense and forceful when she spoke.
“Rika, is that you? Are you alright? Dami! I swear! If this is a prank, then I-”

“Calm down, Emily! It’s just me. You don’t need to be this worried for me now. Damian saved me from my kidnappers.”
Rika assured Emily that she could hear the alpha’s physically relieved sigh.
It was regrettable that Emily could not join them right now. But Rika understood that there were a lot of lives dependent on Emily’s performance right now.
Besides, Damian had been enough for Rika’s rescue anyway. There was no point in wasting manpower when you could save it.
“I see! That’s a relief. Dami never called me to tell me what happened, so I was worried about you. How are you feeling? Does your body hurt? Are you feeling dizzy?”
Emily quickly asked, trying her best to cease her worry over Rika.
“I am fine! As I said, Damian saved me before anything could happen. But that is not why I was calling you. I needed to tell you something.”
Rika felt nervous once she spoke these words.
Even she realised how ambiguous her words sounded and how easy it would be to mistake them for something else.
“…”
Emily’s silence on the other side of the phone spoke volumes about how nervous she was to hear what Rika had to say.
“No, wait! This did not come out right. What I wanted to say was nothing serious. I promise! I just wanted to tell you that I will spend the next two days with Damian since he’ll be going into his rut. You don’t have to worry if you cannot contact either of us for the duration.”
Rika’s heart skipped a beat as she spoke those words out loud.
She had finally done it! She finally managed to say what was on her mind.
It took Rika a few seconds to notice that the other side of her phone had gone deadly silent. Emily’s breathing sounded tense, and her voice sounded murderous when she spoke.
“That madman wants you to do what? Has he gone draft? Rika! Don’t you dare spend his rut with him? It will be too much for your body. You don’t know what Alphas could get like during their rut. You are not ready.”
Emily warned Rika, and knowing she did not believe in her stung her.
That may be why Rika snapped slightly when she replied to Emily.
“Well, too bad. I have decided that I am going to spend Damian’s rut with him. I was going to offer you the same offer, but now I see no need to do that. I should get going now-”
“No, wait! That did not come out right. Give me another chance to explain myself.”
