Chapter 224: Ch 224: An offer to not refuse
The smile that was starting to bloom on Suzie’s face blew away in an instant. Instead, an awkward smile forced itself on Suzie’s face when she looked at the man before her.
“What are you talking about? I did not lie about anything. In fact! I have said nothing but truth to you this whole time, Mark. How could you say all this to me?”
Suzie asked in a somewhat terrified voice.
Mark had never questioned her words before, and the fact that he was doing so now made Suzie realise this was getting out of hand for her.
Her brother, the one she treasured above anything else, was slipping out of her hands by the second.
‘What happened! Is it one of Rika’s tricks? I need to resolve this situation if that is the case.’
“Mark, whatever Rika told you is not-”
“Rika did not tell me anything. Those who spilt the beans about what happened are your ‘friends.’ They and their families are all in trouble with their mother now. All three family members are furious about what happened.”
“And do you know what the first thing those ‘friends’ of yours did when we captured them? They blamed you and tried to make you their scapegoat.”
Mark’s words hit Suzie hard.
She already knew her ‘friends’ were not real friends who would stick with her through thicks and thins. They were just people who happened to be beside her when Suzie felt lonely.
But neither she nor those friends considered each other as close.
“They are lying! I had no part in any of this. This was the first time I even went to a club or had any contact with that drug. You have to believe me, Mark!”
Suzie sounded desperate as she begged Mark to believe her.
Fortunately for her, Mark sighed and did not drag the topic out.
“I believe you, but not because you promised me that you had no part in any of it. I believe you because their stories do not match. You were under surveillance, so you have been proven innocent in most of this case.”
Mark assured Suzie, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
But she knew that this was not over. Mark still looked angry at her, and his clenched fist told Suzie everything she needed to know about what he was thinking.
“Your actions today have broken my trust in you, Suzie. I don’t think I will be able to recover from this as quickly as you believe. Just give me some time, and do not approach me.”
Mark told Suzie this outright to her face.
Suzie’s first reaction was to reach for Mark’s hand to try and change his mind.
She knew that if Mark looked at her face, he would change his opinion of Suzie and come to like her again.
That was what Suzie believed, at least.
But Mark’s refusal to even look at her caused Suzie to feel annoyed and unloved.
“Hump! You can try to ignore me in any way you like, Mark. But I assure you that the one who will come crawling back first is you. You cannot live without me, and that’s a fact.”
Suzie declared that she had everything she had to offer at that time.
Mark looked slightly annoyed at her but could not deny what Suzie had said.
“Perhaps you are right. You are too intertwined in my life for me to distance myself from you. And that is why I will try my best.”
“It’s time you live your life, and I live mine.”
Mark declared before he left Suzie all alone in that room.

His words made Suzie clench her fist hard before her disappointed face was filled with anger, and she threw her pillow at the closing door.
“Shit! This was not supposed to happen. Does Mark think he will be able to keep his distance from me? I know, Mark! He will be back here like a dog in a single day. I need to wait for that to happen.”
Suzie declared with complete confidence, but the foundation of her belief began to shake now.
Since Rika left home, everything seemed to be going well. It was as if the shield that protected Suzie had disappeared.
“I need to bring Rika back to her place. They will like me again once people see that this is all her fault.”
Suzie was brimming with jealousy and so much more. She wanted her ‘rightful’ place to come back to her.
…
“Alpha Goodwill, I don’t think this is a wise decision. Won’t young master Mark be better for this post?”
“That’s right! If not young Master Mark, we can also wait for Miss Suzie’s name to be cleared from this case. She will be better for this position than a random individual like-”
Natasha Goodwill’s glare quietened everyone. Her eyes threatened to kill anyone who raised any complaint against her decision.
The man tried to stand up, but the terrifying alpha forced him to sit back.
“If you want to live, Don’t call my daughter a ‘random person’ ever again. I made my decision long ago, and I told you all this beforehand.”
The alpha’s pressure was too great for most people to lift their heads and look at her.
Natasha Goodwill’s presence was enough to make them all look down.
“We do not have a problem with what you suggest, Alpha Goodwill. But I’ve heard your daughter is not interested in this industry or heading you. Will you force her to take this position even if she doesn’t want to?”
The manager asked with an easy-going nature.
Natasha hated him a lot, but he was necessary for her business. This man was one of the best brains in this industry and worth respecting. (And no! It had nothing to do with the fact that he married a beta despite being an alpha)
“Regulas Ford, do you want to suggest something to us?”
Natasha asked in a tense voice. She could not read this man, so she feared what he had to say.
“Hmm, I have a proposal for you, Alpha Goodwill. I am sure you will not feel disappointed by what I say.”
