Chapter 229: Ch 229: I did not see or hear a thing
Suzie looked at her father, the only person who supported her during this mess. But her father quickly turned his head away from her as well.
Despite the shock, Suzie’s resolve remained unshaken. She was not ready to give up.
‘If I cannot go to grandmother, I will call her and ask her to get me. No one defies grandmother in this house, not even mother. I am sure everything will be fine soon.’
Dinner lasted quite a while, and Suzie quickly ate her plate before heading to her room.
She needed to be the first to finish her food so another family member would not follow her.
No one followed Suzie except the maid, who had been ordered to keep an eye on Suzie to ensure she did not break the curfew.
It was as if Suzie was being treated like a criminal, confined against her will. She was convinced that even real prisoners had more freedom than she did.
Suzie stopped walking as soon as she reached the standard room. The maid standing behind her looked confused.
“Miss, is there anything you want? Alpha Goodwill has ordered us not to let you use the common phone. If you are thinking about it-”
“If I am thinking about it, so what? Are you going to try and stop me? You should think about it again. Your job is dependent on my mood.”
Suzie reminded the female about this, and the maid instantly realised she was being threatened.
The maid had no desire to fight Suzie, much less say anything else to her.
“Of course, mam! I do not know what you are doing now, and my eyes hurt. I will rest them for a while, so I am afraid I will not know what will happen from now on.”
The maid assured Suzie before she turned her head away and closed her eyes. She did not want to witness whatever rule Suzie was about to break.
That way, the maid could proclaim innocence later if askIt would be best if you thoughted about it.
Suzie liked this maid. She was intelligent and resourceful.
‘Maybe I should ask this maid to become my hands and feet while trapped here. She will have much more freedom than I do. I am sure a little pocket change will do the trick for someone like her.’
Suzie had a lot of money saved for emergencies but never spent it (mainly because she never had anything not given to her when asked). The maid would be a fool to turn down Suzie’s money offer.
The phone rang once…twice…and then her grandmother picked up the phone.
Suzie did not even bother with the greetings and jumped directly to demand.
“Grandmother, please come and get me! I need your help! My mother is unfair and always keeps me trapped in my room. I even asked her to let me meet you, but I was ignored.”
Suzie was good at appearing helpless but knew her grandmother was not fooled.
Still! That old lady would help Suzie for sure, and that was because they were too alike not to get close to each other.
…
“Mark, you could have been more delicate with Suzie. She is still a patient, even if she is being punished. You should not shock her by saying things like these.”
The only omega left at the table turned toward Mark with a gentle but scolding look.
But Mark only scoffed with indifference and a slightly guilty expression.
“Suzie needs to learn that the world does not revolve around her and her needs. If we keep coddling her like this, then I am afraid that she will never know. That’s why we need to be firm with her.”
Mark was quite firm in his words when he spoke. He was not mincing his words either.
This made his father flinch, and he turned toward his wife for support. But even his wife seemed to agree with Mark.

“I agree with Mark about this. Suzie is no longer a child, so we should treat her like an adult now. She needs to learn that there are setbacks in life that she cannot do anything about.”
The omega wanted to say more, but his wife and their son sound his wife, and their son defeated him and his fate of being separated from his sweet daughter.’
It was silent once more around the dining hall. The omega thought of any topic to bring up and break this silence, but Mark was faster than him.
“Mother, did you offer Rika that position you were talking about? I heard from my friends that their parents were complaining about these favours. Do you need me to bury those complainers alive?”
Mark’s voice was angry when he asked this question.
At this point, the smile on his face could not even be called a smile, and it made the omega shiver.
“No. Let those people be. I need to catch them in the act to make them suffer properly. If we do it behind the scenes, then this will make things difficult for Rika. Besides, I am sure Rika will do a good job, despite what Regulas Ford and another have planned for us.”
Natasha Goodwill sounded confident, and Mark nodded at her.
The omega wanted to ask what these two were discussing, but he felt he should avoid getting involved in their business to maintain his calm.
‘I should check up on Suzie once I am done here. I am sure my darling daughter needs me to comfort her. She might always annoy me, but she also likes and misses me.’
The omega was sure about his daughter, but he also felt guilty for ignoring news about Rika this blatantly.
But he could not help it. There was just something about Rika that did not sit right with him.
‘Ah, let’s not think about it. If I don’t think about it, then it will not bother me much in the future. This has worked so far, so I can continue to do it for much longer.’
