Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 231
Chapter 231: Ch 231: Two new interns
Half an hour later, the door to the restroom opened, and the two arguing alphas came inside with varied expressions of satisfaction (or dissatisfaction) colouring their faces.
Regulas Ford looked content, so Rika was sure that her mother finally gave in and accepted his request to have his daughter receive as a part of this internship.
Her mother’s expression said that she had given up arguing halfway for her sanity. Truthfully, Rika did not blame her either.
“We discussed it all and concluded we could make a new intern position for Miss Luna Ford. But this will be my last exception; she will also work in Mr. Ford’s section.”
Natasha Goodwill’s words were final, and Rika felt glad to have her ‘possible’ friend here.
Mr. Ford looked beyond pleased to hear these words and quickly pulled his daughter toward himself to show his support for her.
“I’m happy to know that we agree on this topic. I will take my daughter now and head back to my work. She will join tomorrow as soon as you send the contract.”
Mr. Ford left quickly.
He could have asked management to post a notice for his daughter in the company under his name. However, Alpha Goodwill was much more valuable in the long run.
This single action helped solidify Luna Ford’s future in any company she wanted, and that was what Alpha wanted in the first place.
“Tsk, that bastard sure got me good! Shit! I cannot believe I fell for his taunting and gave him what he wanted. This is as bad as things can be.”
Natasha Goodwill bit her lip before she turned toward Rika and gestured for her to follow behind her.
Rika maintained a suitable distance from her mother since she did not know what her mother wanted. But her mother quickly slowed her pace to meet Rika’s so that they could walk together anyway,
“So, why me? And why now of all times? I don’t know what you want from me, mother. I told you already that I am not interested in working at your company.”
Rika reminded her mother, but the alpha remained quiet for some time.
That awkward silence lasted until they reached her mother’s office, and the alpha exploded.
“That fucker! He took advantage of you, Rika. Ugh, I knew I did not like that man for some reason. And just put your bias aside for now and think logically. Even you cannot deny that this is a golden opportunity for you to put on your resume.”
Natasha Goodwill was not wrong when she said that. Rika knew her mother had a point and could not deny it.
Objectively, Rika’s position was a golden spoon anyone would kill for.
“One month! Give this post one month of your time, and I will not ask you to help in the company again…probably! Honestly, you are the only one I can see heading this company. Both Mark and Suzie are not suitable for this position.”
Rika was surprised to hear her mother speak these words. The more she thought about it, the more it made sense.
However, that did not mean that Rika was happy about her circumstances.
“I know this is an excellent opportunity, but I feel awkward about it. I will get used to it over time, so you don’t have to feel worried about me.”
Rika assured her mother, and she did her best to ignore the awkward expression her mother had.
The alpha sighed as she considered Rika’s words before realising that this was the best outcome she could have requested. She should not be greedy about wanting more from someone like Rika.
‘I guess that Rika is right. She will come around and accept her position soon. She is pretty flexible in her thinking, after all. However, the atmosphere around the office worries me.’
Natasha had seen the way people looked at Rika. They were suspicious and jealous of her.
Usually, this did not matter, but Natasha had a bad feeling that it would soon cause trouble for Rika.
‘Let’s not jump to conclusions. But I should warn Rika about the possibility of being bullies and to seek help if that happens quickly.’
“Rika, you are strong and don’t like relying on me. But just this one time, try to rely on me. Come to me if anyone bullies you or tries to dump their work on you. Our office has a strict anti-bullying policy, but I don’t have time to check on everyone.

More than an internship, this is an undercover operation to unroot the bullying here, alright? But don’t get hurt while trying to protect someone else.”
Natasha knew her daughter well. And since she knew Rika well, she knew that Rika was too kind-hearted for her good.
The beta will never admit it, but she has a soft spot for helpless people and likes getting into trouble more often than Natasha would like her to.
Rika also had cold air around her, which made people uncomfortable. This made her a prime target for irritated people.
Most importantly, Rika was a beta, which disadvantaged her.
This could all be relieved if Natasha released her relationship with Rika to the company. But the Alpha had a feeling her daughter would not want that.
‘People know Luna already, so they will not mess with her. I hope Rika does not get into trouble over all this.’
Little did Natasha Goodwill know that bullying would be the least of her worries regarding her employees and their assumptions. She would have approached this differently if she had known about the rumours spreading about her and Rika.
But things were already set in motion, and people making up stories had already started.
The Goodwill duo did not know what happened, but when Rika came to the office the next day, she was greeted with suspicious and hostile looks.
She did not know what she did wrong, but something must have happened for the people to give her such glaring looks.
