Chapter 257: Ch 257: Long awaited visit
After telling Charon everything that happened, Rika felt much more awkward staying with them. That’s why she decided to follow her original plan and head out for a walk.

Shuu looked delighted to see Rika, and he immediately jumped at her and knocked her down.

Shuu was a heavy wolf cub, and Rika had still not decided what she needed to do with him. But the enthusiasm the pup showed Rika made one thing clear for her – she would not let the pup go.

“Come, Shuu. I finally have some time today to go on a walk. Let’s take a long walk and relieve our stress.”

Rika offered and grabbed Shuu’s leash to unlock it from where it hung on the wall.

That turned out to be a big mistake as Shuu immediately took off and decided to drag Rika behind his massive body (for a pup).

Shuu was too strong for Rika to be able to control, and she had to run to keep up with him…which turned out to be a mistake since Shuu increased his speed once he saw that Rika could keep up with him.

It was safe to say that Rika did not even last ten minutes before she gave up, and her breath became unstable.

She tugged at Shuu to stop, but the pup became even more excited at the notion of someone playing with it.

He dragged Rika toward the florist shop where she used to work, and Rika’s legs felt like jelly.

“I-It’s enough, Shuu. I don’t think I can run anymore.”

Rika complained as she finally got to rest a little bit. The pup had finally stopped running but still looked ready to take off any second.

It made the beta feel awkward, but her feeling could also be because she was standing in front of her previous job.

The florist store looked the same as when Rika was a little awkward to enter it.

“Welcome! How may I help you…Rika, what are you doing here? I thought you quit this job? Did you finally realise that this was your calling all along?”

Daniel came out from behind the counter, surprised to see Rika.

He looked healthier and much happier now than when Rika worked with him. That realisation made Rika’s insides twist awkwardly, but she did not show it on her face.

“I told you before, Daniel. I had to quit this place since it was not in my hands. If I did not quit, you would have to face Rocxx every day until he got what he wanted. Did you truly want to face such a time?”

Rika asked, and Daniel made an awkward face filled with disgust.

“Yeah, you are right! That would be the worst possible scenario. So, what brought you here? Are you here to buy flowers? Or to look around?”

Daniel asked, and Rika just shook her head to clear her thoughts.

“I was just passing by. Shuu decided to drag me toward here on his walk. I think he missed this place…”

*bark…grrrr*

Rika was having fun talking with Daniel when she heard Shuu’s startled voice getting angry.

She had left the pup alone but bound him up so that he would not hurt anyone (or break anything).

Rika hurried up to where she had left her puppy when she came across a scene of a female beta lying on the ground and shaking as she looked at Shuu.

Shuu did not look happy to see that female, and his growls indicated how unhappy he was with whatever had happened seconds before.

“Sherina! Are you alright? What happened? Why are you sitting on the ground like that?”

Daniel quickly asked these questions as he helped the unknown female up.

Rika noticed the female wearing the same uniform as Daniel, indicating she also worked in this shop.

‘So, this is my replacement? She looks like a hard worker. I am sure that she’s a big help to Daniel.’

The way Daniel held his partner looked familiar to Rika. An air of intimacy around the beta pair in front of her made Rika suspect they were in a relationship.

*grrrr*

“Shuu, that is enough. It would be best to not growl at strangers who have not harmed you. I’m so sorry, miss. Shuu is not usually like this. It seems that having too many smells around him is scaring him.”

Rika apologised and placed herself between Shuu and the startled female sitting on the ground.

Sherina looked angry, and her glare penetrated Rika’s body, making her shiver.

“Don’t bring your dog out if it is not trained! He almost gave me a heart attack because of all his barking! Who would be responsible if he ended up breaking something important in here? I doubt we would be able to explain it to our boss.”

The beta tried to make Rika feel guilty and afraid, but Rika only blinked back at the angry beta with a startled face.

Objectively, she knew what Sherina was hinting at, but Rika still felt a startled laugh leave her lips as soon as she heard her speak.

That irritated Sherina even more, and the female finally lost her temper.

“Stop laughing! This is not a laughing matter at all! Do you know what kind of person owns this place? He’s a scary man who has powerful people behind him. You will disappear one day if you anger him.”

Every word out of Sherina’s mouth was spoken to intimidate Rika. But all it did was make her chuckle even more.

Poor Daniel looked embarrassed on behalf of his company, and he quickly placed a hand on her mouth to quieten her down before she could embarrass herself even more.

“Sherina, this is enough. You are making Rika feel awkward now. I am sure this was all an accident, so we should look past it now and worry about our work.”

Daniel tried to make Sherina drop the topic, and it somehow worked. But Rika could tell the other beta did not like her even slightly.

‘Ah, well! Not everyone can be friendly to you at the first meeting. I am sure that Sherina will mellow out soon enough.’
