‘When is Sherina going to mellow out? It’s been half an hour, and the air in the room is just as bad as it was during the start.’

Rika awkwardly clutched her tea and sat awkwardly at the table. She wanted to talk to Daniel, but every time she opened her mouth, Sherina interrupted her.

The beta was sparing no effort to let Rika know she was not welcome here.

“You need to mellow out a little, Sherina. I am not going anywhere and will not leave you for anyone else. There is no need to be so hostile to Rika.”

Daniel did not hold back when he told his partner this.

His cold and careless words made even Rika flinch, and she was sure they would have an even worse effect on the woman sitting beside Daniel.

As Rika expected, Sherina did not look happy when she was told this, and her eyes blazed with anger and obsession.

“What the hell do you know, Daniel? I am not jealous; I am just concerned! Do you know how easy it is to scam you and get you to agree to anything? I’m just trying to keep you safe.”

Sherina huffed, and her breath looked uneven. Her eyes were also blazing when they looked at Rika, and there was a hint of doubt and annoyance.

‘Oh! I am not welcome and don’t think I will ever be welcomed here. I should head home before Sherina makes it obvious that she does not like me.’

Rika had come here with some expectations to talk to Daniel and to get herself to feel better. But all this little trip did for her was make her even more annoyed with what was happening in her life.

Daniel looked sorry for what was happening and a little angry at his girlfriend for making things awkward.

But he quickly got his expression under control and stood up with a sigh. He looked caught between a rock and a cliff.

Rika felt terrible for him, so she decided to head back now. She did not need to make this situation any more awkward for Daniel than always.

“Oh my! Look at the time! I should be heading back now to return to my dorms on time. I will drop by again sometime to talk, Daniel! Have a nice day.”

Rika was about to leave when Sherina blocked her path.

The female looked enraged, and Rika felt tense. Shuu also started barking at Sherina, his eyes making it clear that he wanted her to stop blocking the way.

“You need to buy something for wasting our time like this. We could have made sales if we were not busy entertaining you. Buy something worth at least 100 dollars as compensation.”

Sherina was blunt in asking this, and Rika could only blink at the beta in front of her with her jaw on the floor.

“Sherina! What are you doing? We talked about this! You cannot force people to buy something just because they entered here and started to look around. You are going to make them all run away from here.”

The male beta complained to his girlfriend as he shook her shoulder. But Sherina just shook off his hand, and it was her turn to look angry.

“The whole reason we are in this mess is because of you. So you need to man up and start making some sales. Do you know how much under we are this month from the target-”

Rika could only blink at the arguing pair.

‘Ah, it seems Sherina does not know the true significance of this building and the ‘other’ trade in the basement. Poor girl! I don’t know if I should feel sorry for her or annoyed by her.’

Rika picked up a few roses and decided to buy them. For her current situation, 100 dollars was a lot, but Rika chose to rip off the band-aid.

“Daniel, it’s okay. I will buy some flowers if it makes things easier for you. I know how much this store makes anyway, so I am happy to help you.”

Rika fished a 100-dollar bill from her purse and gave it to Sherina.

The female snatched it before Daniel could say anything, and she packed the flowers Rika had chosen.

“Come again to shop, and make an even bigger purchase next time.”

It seemed like Sherina was forcing herself to say these words, but she did sound happy enough not to curse Rika out.

Just when Rika was about to leave the store, Daniel came after her.

“Rika! Hey Rika! Wait a minute. I need to talk to you about something! Do you know an alpha named Andrew? The one who came to meet you a long time ago? He came here recently to look for you.

Did he get back to you regarding what he wanted?”

Rika blinked a few times and tried to remember whom Daniel was talking about.

It took her quite a while to remember the alpha Daniel was talking about, but once it did click in her mind, Rika stiffened with an awkward expression.

“Ah, that man? He did not contact me after he went back to his family business. It’s been some time since I last met him as well. But I am sure he will get back to me if it’s anything important.”

Rika assured Daniel, but he did not look satisfied or happy with her words.

If anything, his expression was worse than before, and he bit his lip to stop himself from cursing.

“Fine! If that’s what you think, I will not question you further. But do let me know if you need anything. And be careful out there. There have been signs of tension between the five families! If you are not careful, you might get swept in the incoming disaster.”

This was…news for Rika.

She rarely kept track of the mafia world, but Rika prided herself on being updated about their affairs most of the time.

But she did not know anything this time, which made Rika suspicious.

Were people hiding things from her? If so, then for what reason?
