Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 266
Chapter 266: Ch 236: The Invite
“Andrew B Tweten, why are you calling me this late at night? Don’t you have anything better to do? Are you drunk or something? Or did someone prank you?”
Rika looked at her phone to confirm the time and had to admit it was early enough at night.
It was only 09:00 PM, but it felt over midnight because of Rika’s hectic day.
Her body felt tired and threatened to fall asleep any second now. Rika’s head was already dropping, and the phone had slipped out of her hands more than once.
“Ah, is it that late at night? I did not realize how late it was because I was leaving the country. If you are too tired to talk, I can call you tomorrow. Would that work for you-”
“Yeah, sure! Call me tomorrow in 12 hours or so. I am too tired to care about what you say right now.”
Rika cut the call off before Andrew could get another word in, and she fell asleep.
Once the morning arrived and Rika had the time to think over what she had done, she realized she had messed up. But it was too late to regret anything by that point.
‘Ugh, I was not drunk when I cut off that call. How rude was I last night, and how could I do this? I will have to work hard to make sure Andrew does not find any trouble with me.’
Rika sighed before she picked up her phone. As soon as she was ready, she dialed Andrew.
‘Don’t pick up the phone! Don’t pick up the phone! Don’t pick up the phone!’
Rika chanted in her mind as she held the phone close to her ear.
But her prayers were unanswered as Andrew picked up the phone as soon as it rang.
“So, you finally decided to call me? It has not been 12 hours as you asked for. Are you sure you should be calling me at this time?”
Andrew asked worriedly, but Rika could read his undertones and tell that the older alpha felt amused.
It was good that today was off, and Rika did not have to go to work. She would not survive having her mood run so early in the morning.
“If all you are going to do is sprout off bullshit like this, then I don’t need to hear you out anymore. I will cut off the phone now-”
Rika threatened, and the man finally came around while yelping.
“No, wait! There is no need to do that! Let’s talk about why I called you first instead of getting angry. The truth is, I need your help for something. It is not big, but I need you to hear me out.”
Rika felt intrigued, and she knew that it was a bad thing. She should not have given this man the chance to entice her, but stopping him from speaking was not what she wanted to do.
Andrew took her silence as a gesture to continue speaking, and he seemed excited to tell Rika what he wanted from her.
“Do you know about the Union conference that will happen soon? I want you to go there as my partner this year. I know that you would instead take Alpha Steinz or Young Master Rodric as your partner, but they both will be attending together. Your brother will likely bring Suzie Goodwill, which leaves me without a partner.
I would like to keep it within families and ask for your help. But I don’t want to force you to become my partner, so I would like you to consider this properly. Would you like to become my partner?”
Andrew asked, and his words made sense.
Rika knew about the Union Conference and knew it would be where Damian debuted as the new Rodric Alpha. It had been decided ages ago.
Because this was the case, Rika knew she would not be allowed to attend in her current condition.
One needed a high enough standing in the mafia or cooperate world to enter that world. And Rika did not have either qualification to match.
‘Would it be too much if I go with Andrew Tweten this year? The conference is in a week, and neither Emily nor Damian has said anything about taking me. I am sure that they have no intention of doing so either.’
Rika knew her mates well, so she knew they would like to keep Rika out of as much trouble as possible. This meeting would be no different.
“I am not brutal enough to force you to decide when you are conflicted about your choice. You can take two days to make your decision.

But please, keep me from waiting too long. If you decide to ditch me, my lady, I will need to look for another date.”
Andrew was teasing Rika, but it felt like he was serious about this. It hit Rika’s breath, and she quickly looked away, only to realize she had nothing to look away from.
“I will…think about it. I will get back to you in two days.”
Rika felt troubled and excited at the same time.
She wanted to go to the Union conference ever since she was young. She was the only one ever excluded from this event because she had no one to go with.
And now she finally had a chance to make an appearance.
But it felt like cheating to go with Andrew Tweten now that she was in a relationship.
‘I will wait for someone to invite me first. If someone does not ask me, I will accept Andrew’s offer. But I am sure that I will not be neglected this year! Emily or Damian will ask to take me, right?’
Rika was barking up the wrong tree here. The invite was for one person +1 only, and the alpha pair had been going together for years.
She would not be surprised if the pair received only one invite with their name and no +1.
‘Worrying about it will not do a thing. I should wait for time to pass before I make my decision.’
