Chapter 278: Ch 278: Why I did not take you out
Emily was not having a good day.
It all started with this weird feeling she had when she woke up. Her instincts kept screaming at her and begging her to call Rika immediately.
The female alpha wanted to call Rika as soon as she had her weird feelings again, but she ignored it repeatedly while getting ready for work.
Emily had no time to waste during the morning, but she vowed to go after Rika once it was evening.
But the day just kept getting worse for her.
People made annoying mistakes, and the slightest thing was blown out of proportion.
A war was approaching, and everyone felt tense about overcoming it. Emily felt tired by the end of the working day.
But her feeling of something being ‘off’ did not go away. Emily continued to have that feeling until she got off work and received a call from Mark Goodwill.
He did not call Emily out of the blue, so she debated whether to pick up his call.
However, considering that Mark only called her when the conversation was about Rika, Emily decided to indulge him and pick up the phone.
“What the hell are you doing? I thought you liked Rika. Why didn’t you ask her to attend the Union Conference with you or Damian? I would feel much more secure if her partner was one of you two.”
Mark got straight to the point when he picked up the phone.
Emily blinked at her phone; her expression closed off. She did not know what to think of this call.
Was this some kind of prank she was not aware of? Rika had never indicated that she wanted to attend the Union conference.
“Huh? Where did you hear this news from? Rika was not interested in the Union Conference, so I did not ask her to attend with me. What do you mean she is going with someone else? Who is this ‘person’ you speak of?”
Emily asked in a tired voice.
She would have grilled Mark had she been in her right mind, but Emily was trying to think of anything but her bed.
Despite that, she dragged herself out of her haziness and listened to what Mark was saying.
“Tsk, it doesn’t matter what you think Rika meant or did not mean to do. But I just got rejected by Rika because she said she already had a partner for the Union Conference, and I know that it is neither you nor Damian.
The only other person I can think of is Andrew Tweten since he came to pick Rika off after her work.”
Emily’s insides felt hot and cold at the same time. She did not let Mark finish what he wanted to tell her next before Emily cut the call off and decided to call Rika.
Rika did not pick up her phone, so Emily knew she had to take drastic measures to ensure her safety.
She quickly called one of her spies, whom she had deployed, to keep an eye on Rika. The beta picked up her call within two rings.
“Tell me all about Rika- where she is, who she is with, and what she is doing. Don’t leave out a single detail about anything I asked you.”
Emily grilled the man on the other side of the phone as soon as he picked it up. Her anger caused the poor beta to flinch before he gathered himself.
“Miss Rika is with…Andrew Tweten. They were shopping for clothes in the XXX store, but I was denied entry because I was not on their VIP list for the day. I will keep you updated for the day.”
After hearing this news, the spy promised Emily, but she was far more unhappy than he could imagine.
Just thinking about Rika spending time with another alpha who was not her (or Damian) sent shivers down Emily’s spine. She could not handle this and knew she needed to go after Rika and talk with her.
‘I need Rika to pick up my call so that I can ask her what she is doing! But Rika is not picking up my calls. Is she angry about something? Does Rika feel disappointed that I did not consider taking her to the Union Conference?’
That could be one reason for Rika to be angry, but Emily did not regret keeping Rika out of the mess of the Union Conference.

As the name suggests, it was a place where the world’s most influential people met to strengthen connections.
And as far as Emily was concerned, none of these so-called ‘big-shots’ were friendly people.
Most of them were the kind that would chew you and then throw you out once they were done with you. Rika would become their target even with all the protection she had.
‘That bastard! How dare he take Rika to a dangerous place like the Union Conference? Is he not in his right state of mind or something? How can he be so fucking stupid? I need to go and have a talk with Rika regarding this.’
Emily needed Rika to understand just how dangerous it was to go to this conference alone without any protection of one’s name behind them.
She also knew that Rika wanted to leave her family behind. But once she appeared at the Union conference, Rika could not do it anymore.
Rika would be bound to the Goodwill name no matter what happened.
‘Fuck it! If I knew Rika wanted to attend the Union Conference so badly, I would have taken her myself. I just wanted to make this situation easier for her, so I never asked her out. I guess I am at fault for this.’
Emily gritted her teeth before following the GPS she had installed on Rika’s phone.
The omega had forgotten all about it, but Emily always kept it active for emergencies. Right now, Emily was breaking all the speeding rules set in the city, but she did not care.
Who would tell her to stop anyway? She was going to reach Rika, and no force could stop her – not even the car speeding toward Emily to crash into her.
