Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 293
Chapter 293: Ch 293: Let them go
This was the first time Rika had been anywhere near a place inhabited by Damian except his room.
She had to admit that the bare feeling of this place significantly matched Damian’s personality. It just screamed his personality, and he looked calm in it.
“Sit down!”
Damian tugged Rika to sit on the main chair in the room while he stood guard behind it, making Rika feel like a mob boss.
“Sitting in the boss’s chair like this feels weird but also fun. However, are you not concerned that there will be rumors about what just happened? You did take an unknown female into the side room. Your subordinates will not be happy about it.”
Rika had seen how people looked at her when she passed them with Damian. Their eyes had glared daggers into Rika’s skull as she walked.
Not only had she been subjected to such humiliation, but Rika had also seen those people judging Damian because he spent time with Rika.
People were vicious and looking to tear apart Rika and Damian. Unfortunately, the duo had given them the best excuse possible.
“Don’t bother with them. Rumors are bound to happen….it would be better if people knew about you. They won’t bother coming after you because they are too afraid of me.”
Rika sighed tiredly.
Damian sounded determined and calm, which most likely meant he did not care about the rumor of his honor. Rika doubted that anything she said would make the male change his mind.
The older male also took a strand of Rika’s hair to play with it. He rubbed at the hair, but his eyes looked at Rika amused and fondly. He looked at Rika like he was looking at something precious.
It made Rika feel warm and fuzzy, but she quickly shook her head to get it back on track.
“That reminds me, I need a favor from you, Dami! Do you remember that gang on the outskirts that borrowed money from the Rodric finances? I want to know how much debt they are in and how much you can forgive them this time.”
Rika commented casually, but Damian took it seriously and brought out his phone to check.
“The debt is not that much. I can forgive it easily enough this time. Anything else you need me to do?”
Damian asked, and he seemed to be in a good mood. Seeing the older alpha in such a mood while working was rare.
Rika decided to take advantage of this mood and ask Damian for another favor.
“Yeah, there is something else I wanted to ask you. One of the executives of that gang, a black-haired omega who kind of looks like me, was taken by your people recently. Can you let her go?”
Rika asked, but Damian only tilted his head to the side.
“Someone who looks like you? Sorry, but I’ve not seen any such person. I did see an ugly omega today. The thing was incredibly rude, so I locked it up until it learned manners-”
Rika ended up smacking Damian in the arm for his words.
It was tough to tell if the older alpha was joking or serious about his words. But one thing was clear—he did not seem to like Dawn even a bit.
Rika released a relieved sigh she did not know she was holding on to.
“Don’t talk about others as if they are objects. Besides, I feel you know the person I am asking you about. There is no point in hiding anything from me.”
Rika threatened, causing Damian to let out a disappointed ‘tsk’ before agreeing to let Dawn go.
It all took about half an hour, and things were done.
Shuric and the others looked struck, and Pheone even moved to drag Rika out of this hide-out and back to their base. However, Rika shook her head and stood beside Damian.
“You all should head back now. I will talk to Damian a little more before I come and check up on you. Make sure you keep Dawn calm and relaxed.”
Rika instructed, but she could tell that the people in her ex-gang did not want to leave her alone. They glared at Damian, almost as if they were saying it was his fault.

It could cause another way to break out between the two groups, so Rika quickly positioned herself between the pairs so that no fighting started.
Damian would not risk harming Rika and probably starting a fight….probably.
“Boss, you don’t have to stay here. If you are doing it for us, then don’t bother. We would rather bear all the burden than let you get into trouble.”
Henry promised, and Rika watched Damian’s hand twitch. He was losing patience, and he was losing it fast.
Rika needed to do something about it….
So, she did.
She reached out and grabbed Damian’s hand to calm him down.
Everyone looked startled when Rika suddenly did that, and they waited for Damian to snap at her and pull his hand out.
Only! That did not happen.
Instead of attacking Rika for daring to touch him, Damian warped his arms around Rika’s middle and pulled her closer to himself. He looked happy and gleeful to have Rika in his arms.
Everyone else looked stricken as they watched this display. They had never expected to see Damian acting so out of character.
This display almost reminded them of a dog owner and their possessive dog standing together. Domain was making sure no one came close to Rika, his owner.
“It is fine, Damian! We talked about it. You don’t want to hurt anyone here. It will all be fine.”
Rika patted the alpha on his shoulder, and miraculously, Damian let go of Rika and relaxed.
The alpha was still tense, looking around to ensure no one snuck up on him. But he was also keeping just enough distance so that Rika could react to any incoming threat.
Rika’s ex-gang wanted to protest, but they ended up leaving empty-handed.
