Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 298
Chapter 298: Ch 298: Call for help
“They canceled on you? Can all of those places cancel on you at the same time? Isn’t that illegal? You need to go and get justice. Hurry! Make a report about it.”
Fey looked at Rika with sympathy and anger at the same time. She made a gesture of hitting her plane with her fist to show how angry she was at what happened.
But Rika was much calmer than she was, and she managed to calm Fey down.
“No, I will not need to make a police report for something this small. I just need to find another place to get these things done. I have a few places I want to try out, but I am unsure if they are good.”
Rika was cautious and had a backup place, accepting quick and on-spot appointments.
If not for these places, then Rika was sure she was screwed.
But that did not mean Rika felt any less disappointed than she already was.
It shocked her when she got these calls to tell her about her canceled appointments for the day.
“Rika, why don’t you let me handle this? Can you give me a list of your time slot and appointment time for today? I promise that I will not do anything illegal. I just want to look at who wanted to bully you like this.”
Charon sounded calm, but her eyes showed a familiar hint of anger. Looking at that look made Rika feel safe but unsettled at the same time.
She felt she should keep Charon as far away from this case as possible.
“No, it is okay. There are dozens of beauty salons in the city that I can go to. You don’t need to make a bigger deal out of this than it already is.”
Rika quickly assured the pair in front of her before she looked at her phone and saw that it was time for her to head out.
Any later, Rika could not reach her appointments on time.
Fey and Charon watched Rika hurrying up with different degrees of concern. They did not speak until Rika was out of range.
“That was not normal, right? I’ve been to many saloons, and those high-class places are not some places that overbook their clients. I feel something sinister brewing underneath the surface.”
Charon’s narrowed eyes indicated just what she thought about what happened.
She was not the only one who looked suspicious of what these saloons were up to. Fey had a similar expression on her face.
“You are right! None of these places are names that would want a legal battle to occur against them. But they still tuned Rika away. Do you think it was because of someone else? I mean, could someone be targeting Rika to bully like this?”
Fey asked, and Charon could not recall anyone wanting to fight against the Goodwill family’s people. It would be akin to death.
‘Maybe the culprit is someone else from the Goodwill family as well. It is possible that someone felt jealous of Rika and decided to give her a hard time.’
As plausible as it sounded, Charon could not think of anyone with enough money and authority to pull it off.
“By the way, Charon, I know you have the phone numbers of those people Rika likes to meet occasionally. You know, that alpha pair who looks interested in Rika. Do you think they will be willing to hear us out?”
Fey asked calmly, and Charon turned her attention toward her.
She did know the person Charon was asking her about- Damian Rodric and Emily Steinz. They were both big names, and their presence in Rika’s life was a point that made Charon question Rika’s identity.
Rika said she was ‘just a beta,’ but no one would have connections as high as Rika’s.
There were many times when Rika behaved in a way no average person would, and she did not even seem to know it.
However, Charon did not ask Rika about this because she did not want to pressure Rika. The poor girl seemed to have a lot on her plate already.
“You want to involve those two people in this mess? Do you have any idea who those people even are? I don’t think Rika will be too happy to know that.”
Charon reminded Fey about this, but Fey had a determined expression.

“Well, I know that as well. But we can’t just sit here and let Rika get disrespected like this. We need to do something! Besides, Rika won’t be angry if she doesn’t know what happened, right?
All we need to do is hide what we are doing from Rika, and things will be alright.”
Fey made things out to be far more straightforward than they were. Just looking at her was enough to make Charon shake her head.
But Fey also had a point when she said they should tell someone about Rika’s condition.
And so far, there has been no candidate better than Emily Steinz. She had always shown herself as a regal alpha willing to listen.
“Fine! I will make this call-”
When Charon picked up her phone, she accidentally flashed it to a number she did not want to see.
Mark Goodwill was the name on her phone, and he was someone Charon had vowed never to forgive or forget. She wanted nothing to do with him, but Charon suddenly thought he would be the best candidate to ask for help.
As soon as that thought flashed across Charon’s mind, she quickly threw it out. She would not call that alpha jerk and ask him for help.
She called Emily Steinz first, but the female did not pick up. She seemed busy, which made Charon hesitate to call her back.
So, she quickly moved on to the next person.
But Damian Rodric scared Emily, and she could not even dial the number before she gave up.
In the end, Charon returned to Mark Goodwill, and his disinterested eyes made Charon shiver in disgust.
‘Remember, you are doing this for Rika. Just have faith in yourself and dial this number.’
