Chapter 308: Ch 308: A split-second decision
The Union conference was in full swing. All those who needed to be there were in the same circle; the center was where everyone concentrated their attention.
People from all four families stood in the middle of the hall, discussing the utmost importance—or so the people believed.
But those who were part of the circle knew there was no critical information to be passed around here.
Instead, it was a futile competition of who could maintain a facade of calm and indifference for longer. And at that moment, Mark was clearly on the losing end.
He was the only person in the circle who could not hide his irritation and showed everything on his face.
Compared to him, everyone else was calm, and they were already the head of their family.
“Alpha Tweten, may I ask you an important question? How did you get Rika Goodwill to become your partner? We all know that she does not attend parties like these. Did you blackmail her or something?”
Emily asked this question jestingly, but her voice warned the man to tell the truth.
She would not be able to take it well if this alpha said that he forced Rika to come here.
Instead, Emily wants this man to say he has forced Rika here. That would justify her interfering with this relationship and serving it before this man could cause more harm.
“Ah, it was simple for me to bring Rika here. Unlike most alphas who expect things to work out, I asked Rika if she would make things work out with me. Fortunately, it seemed as if Rika wanted to come here as well.
You can’t imagine how much you can get to know someone if you just ‘ask’ them the right questions and talk to them.”
Andrew Tweten did not outright mock Emily and the others but targeted them with his words.
Emily did not take the bait and smiled her diplomatic smile, which often flashed to people she did not want to deal with.
She also held Damian back (not that the dominant male cared for being insulted. The insult had not even registered in his brain until he was held back)
The one who felt angry because of what was being said was Mark.
Mark Goodwill’s face went pale, then red, and it finally settled on regret.
“Tsk, I did ask Rika about coming here with me, but she rejected it because ‘someone’ interfered beforehand. So, in essence, it is all your fault, Tweten. If you stop buzzing around my sister, I will be thankful.”
Mark gritted his teeth as he spoke these words.
His anger would have served as a warning for most people. However, Andrew Tweten was different from most people. He was one of the most influential people gathered at this conference, and Mark did not want to make an easy enemy out of him.
Because of what happened, another stalemate was reached, and the alpha couple had an advantage.
“Ahh, come on! There is no need to be all gloomy like this! Rather, you should be happy about being together here and having fun! Come on! What would your dates say if they saw you all gloomy and unsocial?”
No one could tell whether Rocxx was trying to ignite the flame or bring it back ragingly, but people shot him annoyed glares to make him quiet down.
But Rocxx pretended he was oblivious to those glares and looked down at his phone with an almost-worried expression.
“Suzie and Rika have been gone for a while. We all know that things are not…great between them both. I think we should go and check out what is happening with them.”
Rocxx finally spoke what was on everyone’s mind – to go after the duo who left the party.
Just as he made that decision, his phone (along with others) chirped with the message. It was from Rika, and a message was sent to everyone here.
When Damian opened the message, he started walking out of the hallway. His pheromones were as chilly as snow, making everyone feel cold and isolated.
No one wanted to approach this man since the start, but now people feared death if they approached him.
“Dami! Calm down and pull your pheromones back. You will knock down everyone inside this hall and also outside. Do you want Rika to collapse as well?”

Emily quickly brought Damian back to his senses while tugging him to sit down simultaneously.
Damian did not want to calm down but did so under Emily’s guidance, and his breathing eased out.
There was still a hint of disapproval in Damian’s eyes, but he was breathing much calmer than before.
“We should split up and search for Rika and Suzie. Rika said they would separate, so we should also do that. As soon as someone finds one of them, message the others! Alright?”
Emily acted as a pseudo-leader despite being the youngest of the bunch. But no one contradicted her words, and they quickly left to find the two omegas.
Mark tried to sense Suzie or feel her pheromones. But her phone was faster than his sense of smell.
Suzie had sent Mark her G.P.S. location, and he was about to head toward her when he heard a loud crash.
He instinctively followed it, only to end up finding Rika instead. He was going to save her at the very least.
She was currently trying to fight off three of her kidnappers, but it must be difficult for her. Her opponents looked trained and had weapons to knock Rika out if she was not careful.
Mark clutched his phone tightly in his hand, and his heart yelled at him, asking her to head toward Suzie first and see if she was alright.
But Mark’s brain was much sharper than his heart, and he realized that leaving now would be a disaster. Rika needed Mark’s help, and he quickly decided—he would help Rika first and then head toward Suzie.
