Chapter 323: Ch 323: Who let the dogs out
“Hey! Stop moving around, and let me brush you! These crazy dogs! Can you believe how they all behave, Rika? What are they? One year old? They’re all trained and ready to head out. But they are behaving like over-excited puppies after seeing me. I feel exhausted.”
Zhu Li complained from beneath the pile of dog fur he was lying under. His breathing felt labored, and he tried to move the dogs from the top of his body to the side.
However, the big guys ignored Zhu Li’s authority and decided he was unworthy of their attention.
Not a single dog came close to Rika or even looked in her direction. But that did not matter to Rika.
She had no intention of looking after these dogs in the first place.
“H-Help me! Please, help me out. I will forever be in your debt if you save me.”
Zhu Li promised from underneath all the dog fur, and Lisa sympathized with him. He seemed to be having difficulty breathing with all these dogs on top of him, constantly crushing him.
“Fine! It looks like I will be helping you this time. But you better pay me back for my help soon.”
Rika commented before she extended her hand between all the dig fur and pulled Zhu Li out.
His face was already blue due to the lack of oxygen, and he looked grateful for Lisa’s help.
“Thanks a lot! These kids can be too much for me alone. I am glad you are my backup in case things get dicey. Ah, speaking of dicey things, be careful with the moody kids. They like to bite a lot.”
Zhu Li warned Rika just in time for one of the aggressive dogs to try and take a bite out of her arm.
The older alpha glared at the dog enough to make it back down in shame and fear. The dog’s reaction made Zhu Li sigh in sympathy, but he did not regret his decision.
“Most of these kids are rescued from various abusive relations or abandonment by their owners. We collect these kids and give them a new home. Ah, but some of the purer breeds are the ones we bought with our money.
Uncle likes to have unique things not tainted by the world’s ugliness. That is why he buys purebred dogs and cats. He spends so much on it that it worries me about us going bankrupt!”
Zhu Li finished complaining but with a fond look on his face.
He liked his uncle despite all the complaints. It made Rika curious about Zhu Li’s parents and family condition.
There was a reason he lived and followed his uncle instead of his father or potential sibling.
But as much as Rika wanted to know, she did not want to intrude on Zhu Lis’ privacy. So, she kept things to herself and did not say a word to Zhu Li.
She did not want to get entangled with it after all.
It was pretty for a while, and Rika almost fell asleep when she heard the sharp noise of barking.
The dogs in the barn seemed to be going wild. They were buckling around like mad, and many thrashed around in pain and suffering.
One of the dogs even tried to jump over the fence and bite Rika while she was sitting down.
“Zhu Li, are you alright?”
Rika asked as soon as she realized things had gotten dangerous around here. She looked at the scene in the pin, and all the dogs were going crazy.
They were attacking each other passionately to eliminate the weird smells in the air.
“I am fine! I got out before the pups went wild! But what the hell is going on here? I’ve never seen such a scene before. Besides, this crazy smell in the air-”
Zhu Li took a deep breath, only to make a repulsive face as soon as he smelled whatever this weird smell was.
Rika could not smell it, but she figured it was good. No one liked that smell, and the irritation became too much.
“This is not good! This smell has started these pups to lose their minds. We should get out of here before an incident happens. When we are out, I will ask damage control to spray this place with sleeping gas.”

Zhu Li promised, and he grabbed Rika’s arm to pull her out.
He did so before one of the prominent and angry dogs broke the pen and got out of the secure range.
It looked angry, and Rika was sure it wanted to bite her. The more she looked at it, the more afraid she felt of that creature.
She did not think she would be able to outrun these dogs.
“Zhu Li, you are a dominant alpha. Can you use your pheromones-”
“I can’t! I’m a defective alpha who is only a dominant alpha in the name. I have never felt like a dominant before; no matter what I do, I mess up. I am sorry that things are like this.
But don’t worry! I will protect you! You are a precious guest of my uncle, so I must lay my life for you.”
Rika wanted to criticize Zhu Li for being dramatic and too much, but the determination in his eyes stopped her.
Zhu Li was not saying ideal words this time. He believed that he could die here, but he would not have any regrets as long as Rika was safe.
“What bullshit are you sprouting now? We are getting out of here together.”
Rika grabbed Zhu Li’s arm and pulled him out of the warehouse.
Or she tried to do that, but dogs quickly surrounded her before jumping her. She was held underneath the paw of a huge dog that threatened to bite her.
But before a dog could maul Rika, a smaller shape collided.
Rika blinked a few times to see what had saved her.
“SHUU! What are you doing here? How did you even find me?”
