Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 337
Chapter 337: Ch 337: Do what it takes
Rika made her call to Emily as short as possible.
There was too much noise on the other side, meaning Emily was out working with Damian. Rika did not want to distract her from any possible dealing.
She did feel bad about sending the alpha such a distracting message, but Rika needed to ensure that she would live as well.
With their resourcefulness, Rika was certain that Emily and Damian would find a way to keep an eye on her, even in the enemy’s lair.
That was how much confidence Rika had in her partners. They had more than enough spies to know what Rika was doing and how she was at any given time.
“Hey, before we go in this time, I need to tell you that there is no need to worry about anything this time. Our uncle does not want to keep you captive (hopefully). He said that he had something he needed your help with.”
Zhu Li assured, but Rika did not know if he was trying to assure Rika or himself.
She did not reply because she knew the answer was not why Zhu Li asked her this question.
Ren Li’s presence was as vast and intimidating as Rika remembered it. She forced herself to walk toward the table before the alpha and sat opposite him.
When she looked at the older man, her face showed no emotion, but somehow, her defiance made the older man a little bit happy.
“Ah, welcome back, Rika! So, how was your trip outside? Did you have fun with the taste of freedom you got?”
The older asked in a tense voice.
“Stop beating around the busy. Zhu Li said that you wanted my help! That is the only reason I am here. I also made sure to inform others of where I was going. So, if I don’t return home on time, they all will storm this place and rack it down.”
Rika warned the man in front of her.
Ren Li let out a chuckle at Rika’s words. His eyes looked at Rika with an amused smile before they turned dangerous and annoyed.
“Tsk, I liked you better when you were a clueless brat caught in our trap! Now, you are like a cunning snake I want to eliminate. Ah, well, my feelings don’t matter here. I would like to ask you a favor.”
The man was quick to change his tone. He placed a photo before Rika, and she picked it up.
It was from a boat party, but she had no idea which party it was. In her eyes, they all looked the same.
“This is an annual party we, Triads, hold yearly in honor of our treaty being signed. Please come as my +1 to this event. I don’t want you to do anything else, just act as eye candy. What do you think? This job sounds easy, right?”
Ren Li was asking for a complex request.
From the decorations around the party and the sea on the outside, Rika could tell that it was a cruise party.
She would be stuck there for who knew how long if she went there. She had no intention of living and dying in the sea.
“Before you deny me, I should tell you what you want to know. This is no ordinary party; you are not going in like any ordinary girl here. This is an undercover operation to burst open a slave and prostitution ring.”
That caught Rika’s attention.
She was more than aware of how the underworld worked and how you could buy anything there – even slaves or pleasure workers if you wanted to.
The practice had been outlawed in the territories of the four families, but the other mafia practiced this openly.
‘This smells like a trap! I don’t think this operation is the only reason Ren Li wants me to be his partner.’
Rika had a bad feeling about this party, so she would deny it as soon as it was suggested.
But Ren Li was faster. He weaved his fingers together before resting his elbows on the table and leaning forward until his head rested on his joined hands.
“Rika Goodwill, before you think about rejecting me, consider everything. I approached you because I had no choice but to rely on you for our needs. No one else but you can be our mole.”

The mafia boss sounded severe, but Rika was done listening to his bullshit.
As much as she wanted to help the man, she would put herself first and not think about this man.
“I don’t care about what you want from me. I am not going to risk my life for *your* mission. I will leave now if you have nothing else to do.”
Rika went away as quickly as she had entered.
Zhu Li sighed while looking at his uncle. He knew that the interested look in his uncle’s eyes spelled trouble for Rika.
Suddenly, Zhu Li felt sorry for what was about to happen to Rika.
“Uncle, it doesn’t have to be Rika, right? I am sure we will find many other people who would love to participate in this mission if we asked. We do not need to go out of our way to acquire Rika, right?”
Zhu Li asked in an uncertain voice. He wanted his uncle to reconsider, but he needed to figure out how to convince the older man to change his mind.
“Hmm, it cannot be a yon, but Rika Goodwill, that will fit the image I want to show our dear boss. It is not something you need to worry about. You need to prepare for the next part of our plan.”
The older dominant alpha sounded casual about what needed to be done, but Zhu Li felt a shiver down his spine.
What his uncle had planned for Rika could have been better, but Zhu Li knew that his uncle did not care about right or wrong.
The older would get what he wanted, one way or the other.
