Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 339
Chapter 339: Ch 339: Nothing happened
“Why are they not back yet? Just what happened? Fuck! I am so worried about Fey and Charon! Just where are they?”
Flourite repeated the exact words for the fourth time in fifteen minutes. The lack of sleep was getting to him, but he refused to give up and go to sleep. He was going to wait for the pair to return.
That was what he had said five hours ago. It was early morning now, and Flourite was still awake.
Sleeping felt like a waste of time, even if he could not achieve anything by being aware.
“I know you are worried about your sister and Charon, Flourite. But you should go to sleep for now. Your tired self will be of no help to them.”
The landlady spoke softly, and she placed a hand on Fluorite’s shoulder to calm him down.
But as soon as she touched Flourite, he flung her hand away and looked back with an angry expression on his face.
“Don’t touch me! I am feeling far too annoyed not to snap at you. Please! I don’t want to hurt you, Aana. Just leave me alone for now.”
The younger teen was at his limits. He was lost and hurting without his sister. The landlady realized it, so she gave the younger his space.
Rika could not help but feel something sinister was happening behind the scenes. She was sure that this situation was not as simple as it seemed.
‘Why do I think I should know why this happened? Is it a mafia-related thing?’
If so, the chances of Fey and Charon being found alive were slim. The police would not be able to help in a mafia case either.
The best solution would involve another mafia and force the first one to give up. However, Rika was unsure if she wanted to involve her family and partners in this situation.
“Flourite, calm down for now. I will call the police and explain the situation to them. I am sure they will be willing to help us out.”
The landlady assured her while she took out her phone to make a call.
Rika would not be surprised to see the police at their door within ten minutes of the call.
For a beta civilian, Aana Black was a resourceful lady. There was no way to tell just how deep her pockets were regarding money and influence. Rika was afraid even to guess when it came to this person.
Flourite looked thankful for all the help he was getting. But his worries made his expression turn sour every few minutes.
Rika felt a little useless, so she asked some friends for help.
When Rika unlocked her phone, she got a call from a familiar number.
Ren Li was calling Rika, and she immediately picked up his call.
“Rika Goodwill, did you like the present I left for you? Don’t worry! Your friends are fine for now. But who knows how long that will remain the case? Do I have your attention now?”
Rika would have growled if she could. She felt angry, frustrated, and annoyed at the same time.
She also knew that this was her fault. If not for her, the mafia would not have held Charon and Fey hostage.
“What do you want from me? Don’t hurt my friends, or I will get angry at you! If you want my cooperation, then don’t touch them.”
Rika warned Ren Li over the phone, and she was serious about keeping her promise.
The older dominant knew Rika well and knew he had her right where he wanted her to be.
“You are smart, so I know you realized what is happening. Calling the police will not help. And if you involve any other mafia, then I will kill them both and flee. All I want you to do is to help me out here. If you agree, I will let your friends go.”
Ren Li promised, and Rika had no choice but to take his word for it.
Even if she wanted to go out of her way and find that man, she had no idea where to start. She doubted that the man was in his base.

“Fine! You will get me as your partner for that stupid party. And I will also cooperate with your bullshit undercover operation. But you better keep my friends in a safe position.”
Ren Li let out a chuckle at Rika’s threat.
He knew Rika would not risk a turf war if he kept her friends safe and out of harm’s way. That was why he was not worried about Rika’s presence.
“I will send my nephew to pick you up once your work ends. For now, pretend that nothing happened and that you know nothing. We’ll have a serious talk once we meet.”
The older male cut off the call, but Rika could not help but feel frustrated.
She was exhausted after staying awake for as long as she did, and now she had to deal with this stupid mafia boss.
“Flourite, keep hanging in there. I will join you as soon as my shift at work is over. Don’t worry! I will ask the people there to see if they can help us somehow. I will help you find your sister and Charon.”
Rika promised, but she felt guilty about what was happening. She already knew where Charon and Fey were, but she could not help them immediately.
“Ah, don’t push yourself too much, Rika. Just take things easy for now. I am sure they both will be just fine.”
Flourite tried to ensure Rika nodded himself at the same time. It was a little difficult to look at him without feeling guilty.
So, Rika decided to head to her room and freshen up. She would need all the energy she could muster to get to work.
Aana ended up cooking a small breakfast for Rika and then was out. She needed to focus and pretend that nothing happened.
