Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 360
Chapter 360: Ch 360: Loud Noises
‘It’s so dark outside. When did I fall asleep?’
Rika opened her eyes, only to close them again as soon as she saw nothing. She tried to move, but her tired body felt too heavy for her to be able even to turn around.
Or maybe that was just because of the arm around Rika’s middle. It prevented Rika from moving around and doing anything she wanted.
Emily’s arm was like a vice grip, and they refused to let Rika go. But the female alpha quickly let go when Rika pinched that arm. It was easier to get away from Emily than it was from Damian.
Rika’s eyes finally adjusted to the dark, and she noticed that Damian was not in bed with her. It was the perfect opportunity for her to make the run and not be caught.
“Are you leaving now? I don’t think it’s such a good idea to go in your current condition. It would be best if you remained in this room for the remainder of the party. I’ll inform your partner about what happened and work out a deal with him.”
Rika finally noticed Damian’s presence sitting on the sofa. He had a pile of papers in front of him that he seemed to fill at record speed.
Rika had no idea how the older alpha could see in this darkness, much less fill out all this paperwork. Her instincts told her it would be better not to ask Damian such stupid questions.
“I need to head out now. I know you can resolve anything for me, but I promised Ren Li I would spend this party as his partner. It will not be found if I break this promise.”
Rika assured Damian, and he suddenly leveled Rika with a strange look.
It was a mix of pity, anger, annoyance, and care. The dominant alpha wanted to say something to her, but he had no idea how to speak his words.
Finally, he caught his thought process and asked Rika the question that was bugging his mind.
“Rika, have you thought about becoming a permanent omega? I know you like your beta self, but I don’t think you should any longer remain a beta.”
Damian asked, and Rika did feel a little taken aback by his question.
“I don’t think this is in my hand, Damian. If I could choose to be one classification, I would have chosen it ages ago. I don’t like this back-and-forth confrontation either.”
Rika assured the older alpha, but Damian still looked frustrated with her answer.
“This is not what I asked you, Rika, and you know it. It would have been different if you were trying to resolve your situation and were met with a dilemma, but that is not the case with you. You are not even trying to become an omega, right?”
Damian asked, and Rika felt a spike of annoyance.
“I am trying to prevent myself from being an omega. I spent my life as a beta! Everything I have in my life is linked to me by being a beta. Why would I want to be an omega all of a sudden? Does that make sense to you?”
Rika could feel her temper and her pheromones rising. She had never felt herself lose control like this, and it was tough to control her emotions.
She realized pretty early that this was the omega part of her that caused her to feel like this.
That thought terrified her. It reminded her once more why she did not want to be an omega and was happy being a beta.
Damian did not realize what Rika was going through and made a frustrated noise back.
“I know how to feel, Rika, and I understand not wanting to change. But you are only running away from the inevitable. You need to change your thinking before it is too late…”
Damian stopped speaking at that point.
It was clear that he had so much more to speak about, but he would not say it. Rika felt the need to ask Damian what he meant by all this.
But in the end, she did not get a chance to do so before Damian sighed, frustrated.
“Rika, just consider changing into a complete omega and receiving our protection before it is too late. I apologize for being so harsh with you, but my instincts warn me that something big will happen soon. I cannot control this feeling of doom I am having.”
Damina’s frustration calmed down, and he forced his feelings back inside his mind.
The look of concern he gave Rika made her melt and forget all he had said until now. She also felt a little awkward standing before Damian without anything to say.

“I will…. think about it. You might be right in saying I am running away from all this. But I hope you understand that this is not an easy decision to make for me either.”‘
Rika felt emotional and exhausted at the same time. Although she did not feel sick anymore, she felt like she would be ill again soon.
Damian noticed Rika’s mood and quickly got up to hand her another pill.
“Here, this will make you feel better. If you feel like throwing up, then do that as soon as possible.”
Rika swallowed the pill with water, and her stomach settled down. She felt much better than before, and earlier, her sickness was also being pushed down.
Whatever Damian had given Rika had been enough to make her instantly feel better and calmer.
“Thanks! I needed that a lot. I should get going now, Damian. I think I spent enough time with you to make my insides smell like you.”
Rika assured the alpha before she left the room.
As soon as she did, all Rika could think about was this argument she had with Damian.
It was not often that she fought with the dominant alpha. She could count their fights on one hand. But it did make her feel oddly regretful.
*Sigh*
“Maybe I should think about becoming an omega now. I have been trying to run from it all this time, but it doesn’t seem that bad.
