Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 362
Chapter 362: Ch 362: Friends
A stalemate had been reached between the pair where no one was willing to back down. Emily was afraid they would start throwing hands at each other, but Rika proved she was a saint, even at that young age.
She took in a deep breath and calmed herself down.
“What do you want from me? Is it money? Food? Whatever you want, I will give it to you.”
Rika offered, and at four years old, she seemed to know the concept of bribery pretty well. But Damian, once again, proved to be a problem.
“I want your time. You seem interesting, like a small bunny. I like that about you. I want you to be mind.”
Damian asked, but his eyes did not look away from Rika when he made this demand.
Even at seven years old, Damian’s presence made him the center of attraction. He seemed pretty dominant for a kid, but his attitude pricked Emily.
She looked at Rika’s uncomfortable expression, and Emily instantly knew that she needed help getting her out.
“Hey, stop it! She said that she does not want you to block her way. Is that difficult to understand for you?”
Emily finally interfered.
In retrospect, she did not need to interfere. But she could not help herself out. Her instincts told her she needed to stand up to this man before her new friend got hurt.
The way Rika blinked and looked at Emily in shocked gratitude made Emily feel good. She wanted to maintain this feeling even longer, so she stood before Rika to shield her.
“Stop trying to make her do as you please with her.”
Emily stood up to Damian, and he looked angry at her.
“You cannot tell me what not to. Even my parents don’t tell me what I can and cannot do.”
Damian replied in a calm voice, but he was just a kid. He quickly lost control of his voice and got louder.
Rika also decided she did not want to stay quiet, so she finally spoke.
“I am not a toy for you to disregard. If you want to play with me, you need my opinion, right? And I decided that I didn’t want to play with you. I want to go back to Mother.”
Rika decided this, but Damian was not done.
“Hey! Where are you going? I did not say that you can go-”
Damian reached out to grab Rika’s wrist, but Rika was a fast little thing, even at her young age.
She swiftly turned around before jabbing Damian in the stomach and making him kneel.
“I don’t care who you are and what you do. I told you ‘no’ once and will not change my mind! Learn to take a hint and leave me alone.”
Rika’s voice was loud and carried over toward the other side just fine. She was letting her anger and aggression out, but she did not seem to care.
Her words and actions made Damian startled. He had never been hit like that.
But anger and annoyance occurred once the shock of being yelled at calmed down.
“You can’t treat me like that-”
Damian grabbed Rika’s hand, but she seemed to have enough.
Emily had never seen someone fight as viciously as these two fought. Hands, bits, and feet – all were used until they both exhausted themselves.
The fight would continue when Mark quickly approached them and noticed Rika fighting.

He quickly pulled Rika back by the back of her collar and turned toward Mark to apologize.
“I am sorry. My sister can get quite rowdy at times. I will teach her manners once I take her home.”
Mark promised while he kept his head bowed. He also forced Rika to bow her head.
Rika struggled against her brother but did not attack him as viciously as she attacked Mark. Her actions were subdued, making it seem as if Rika was almost disappointed after what happened.
Damian narrowed his eyes but did not say a word about it.
Mark got the hint that he needed to get out now. He took Rika with her, and all Emily remembered from Rika was her sagged shoulders and saddened expression as she looked back.
“Hey, you! You purposely provoked her, right? Why did you do that? You got that girl in trouble-”
Emily asked the older male who was left behind with her.
Damian did not even acknowledge what Emily said and continued looking down at the bite mark left behind on his arm.
Damian looked almost maniac when he looked at the bite mark on his arm.
Even at such a young age, Emily could recognize the feeling of possession as well as the craziness that was contained behind Damian’s eyes. He was looking at the door now, and Emily quickly stepped back.
“That girl! I like her. I will make up her mind. I could tell you were also interested in her, but back off! If you come between us, I will end your life.”
Damian seemed to have no problem leveling threats on Emily’s life, even at seven.
It made Emily want to step back, but a stubborn part wished to prove this man wrong and defy him. That part made Emily stand tall and proud before him and say ‘no.’
“I like her as well. I want to be friends with her. That girl…she’s special. I can just tell that she is special, and I-”
Emily had never seen such an intense look in her life. Damian’s look made her insides feel cold, and she quickly looked away after speaking her apology.
But both she and Damian had found a reason to keep this friendship going. But little did they realize that it would become so much more shortly for them.
Emily wanted to meet Rika again but was unsure if that would be possible after this disastrous meeting. But luckily, it seemed as if heaven was on her side, and it sent Emily another chance to befriend the person she wanted.
