Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 365
Chapter 365: Ch 365: High Stakes
It was nice of Ren Li not to throw Rika into the clutches of danger without any pre-preparation on his part. He was making sure that Rika would be reachable when it was time.
Rika had no idea if the broker noticed what Ren Li was doing, but that smile did not falter for a second.
“Go and have fun, Rika. I will come and grab you soon enough. I hope you remain ‘nice and quiet’ this whole time.”
Ren Li spoke softly before he left Rika alone. Now was the real-time for Rika to see what she could do to help with this mission.
The broker extended his hand toward Rika, almost as if she were a little girl he needed to keep an eye on.
“Shall we get going, princess? I promise you that you will have a good time in the place where I am going. Many people share similar interests, so you won’t need to look around too much to find a friend.”
The broker promised before he led Rika to the front of the ship.
He opened a door just a few meters away from the end of the corridor, and the inside looked gloomy and dark.
“Where is the party? You said that you were taking me to a sponsored party. I don’t see anyone else here.”
Rika complained as she looked around the dark room. She could not see anything, but she knew there must be more people there.
“Don’t worry, princess! All you need to do is sit down and wait for your sponsor to come and get you. They’ll be here soon enough, so you won’t have to wait long. People like you are quick to be grabbed.”
The broker promised before he disappeared outside the door. He quickly closed the door so that Rika couldn’t get out.
Now that she was alone in the room, Rika noticed quite a few things about this room.
The first thing she noticed was the heaviness of the air in the room. It was likely saturated with pheromones, which Rika could smell faintly.
But those pheromones did not have as heavy an effect on her as they usually should have had. It was because Rika was covered in Emily and Damian’s pheromones from head to toe.
That broker had to be a beta not to have smelled such a heavy pheromonal scent on her.
‘Ah, no wonder Ren Li allowed me to head out. He must have smelled how heavily I was marked already and decided it was safe for me to be here.’
Not that knowing this made Rika feel any better about that jerk! He had thrown Rika into this pit hold without any consideration for her health or her mental condition.
Rika waited for the door to open so that she could escape. She could have taken out a hairpin in her head and picked the lock, but she was sure it was better to wait for someone to come to her.
She did not have to wait long because the door opened, and an unknown man entered the room.
He looked older and had a severe face. He quickly approached Rika, and she tried her best not to tense up or show her suspicion of this man.
The door closed behind the alpha, and they were locked in the room again.
“Are you my sponsor? What does that even mean? What are we going to do here?”
Rika asked, and she watched as that man turned a different shade. His face looked sick. Perhaps he was not here by his own choice.
“I have no interest in you, kid! I am here to help you out. I don’t know what these people promised to give you, but you are being tricked now. I am a -”
Rika quickly shut that man’s mouth so he could not speak anymore.
As far as Rika knew, this room was heavily monitored, and it had a lot of cameras and other devices that could monitor this room.
If this cop did not realize that much, he must be an immature newbie. It was just Rika’s luck to be stuck with such a person during her mission.
*Sigh*
‘Thank god this man did not say much about what was happening. I don’t want to be disposed of so quickly when I haven’t even started my investigation.’

Rika was sure Ren Li and his men were already scouting the ship. Even Damian and Emily were here, and Rika could swear she had seen a few special forces mixed in with real servers.
This ship could not reach its destination without being blown up by the other side first.
And Rika was here to make it all happen.
“Shh, don’t speak nonsense in a place these people monitor. I don’t care what these people tell you about this room but don’t listen to their words. This room is under these people’s monitoring.”
Rika warned the man who tried to help her. Her proximity made the man flinch, and Ped quickly stepped back.
He soon realized Rika was not there because she had no idea what was happening. She was here because she had the same goal as him and wanted to help.
That made the man calm down and regain his bearing.
“You are right! Sorry about that! I think I lost my mind for a second there. So, what should we do now?”
The police officer asked, and Rika knew they needed to put on a good show for their audience. This was the performance on which this man was staking his life.
“Listen here! You will ask me uncomfortable questions about my age, interests, and everything, and I will pretend I am reluctant to answer them. We must drag this out as long as possible so it can be rescued from here. Do you understand?”
Rika asked, and the man quickly nodded. Thankfully, he quickly understood what was happening and what he needed to do, which made Rika’s job easier there.
