Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 366
Chapter 366: Ch 366: No Escape
“So kid, how old are you, and which school do you attend? As you know, I am looking for young talents, so I must ensure I get all my investment’s worth.”
The officer’s voice faltered as he posed these questions to Rika, his discomfort palpable.
Rika was sure the man was not even looking at her when he asked such uncomfortable questions.
‘The police force’s standards have gotten low these past few years. They used to grill my brother and others during training sessions to not spill anything. I wonder what happened to those times?’
Rika sighed in regret and sadness as she looked at the man before her.
He seemed too tenderhearted for a mission as cruel as this one. Had it been anyone but Rika in this room, this man would have been dead by now because he had revealed too much.
“Kid, you don’t have to answer me if you feel uncomfortable. Just take your time and answer me at your own pace.”
The officer assured Rika once more, and she could only sigh in annoyance.
She was thankful that this room was dark enough not to show most of her features. Even night-vision cameras cannot catch all these tiny details about her face.
“Me? I am about to turn 16 this year. Is that too old for you? I can look younger if you want me to.”
Rika replied, making sure she used the same airy voice she had used before. It made her sound younger and a lot more high-pitched than she was.
If they heard this audio without any background information about what was happening, no one could tell that this was her.
“I see! 16, huh? What about your school? Which school do you go to?”
The officer asked, slowly creeping toward more and more personal questions.
He was doing a great job despite his discomfort. This was the kind of feeling Rika wanted from this man’s acting.
As time passed, Rika began to feel the effect of the heavy scent in the room. Those fake pheromones were eroding Damian and Emily’s scents, and she knew she would soon get into trouble.
“Excuse me, but how long have we been here for? I should head back now.”
Rika remained in character when she said that. She needed to start acting like a concerned kid who needed to head back now.
The police officer looked worked up over what was happening, and his breath picked up quite quickly.
‘Shit! I forgot that these pheromones will affect other people as well. It is a miracle that the officer managed to hold on for this long.’
Rika had to give credit where credit was due. Not many people could grit their teeth and bear what was happening.
The fact that this man could do that was impressive in her mind.
But even he was racing to the limit of his durability.
“H-Hey, kid! Run! I don’t think I can control myself anymore.”
The officer spoke softly, and Rika quickly ran toward the door and banged on it to get it to open. Her brain knew this door was locked and needed to pick it up, but her body was in auto-pilot mode.
Rika looked up sharply when she heard the noise of things falling. She looked up, only to see the officer standing on his feet and trying to reach Rika.
“D-Do something! Run! I can’t control my body.”
The officer yelled once more, and he closed in on Rika. It was a shame that Rika could not earn much more time, but she knew what she could do.
She quickly punched the alpha officer in the stomach and the knee, and he went down. Clearance also returned to his eyes for a minute, and the officer quickly popped a pill to fight against his symptoms.
“Are you feeling better now? If you are about to lose it again, then tell me. I will knock you out once more.”

Rika promised with a cold look as she took out the pin from her hair to open the door. It only took her a minute before the door swung open.
“Let’s hurry up and run out now. We don’t have time to wait for the backup to come. If anyone comes toward us, then shoot them in the leg. We need as many people alive for interrogation.”
Rika took charge of the situation, and the officer looked too stunned to ask her what had happened and how she was making these decisions.
The younger girl sounded so much like the officer’s superior that he did not question her orders.
“I got it!”
The officer assured them, but the whole ship jerked just as they started to run. Alarms began to sound over the whole ship, which indicated that the ship was beginning to sink.
“What the hell-! Did the ship crash into something? Hurry! We need to get to the safety boats before this ship goes down. Follow me!”
The officer grabbed Rika’s wrist as she decided to follow after him. But just as she started to run, a sharp pain in her leg stopped her.
She looked down, only to see blood flowing out of the bullet hole in her leg.
‘Huh! When did I get hit? I don’t remember being shot at?’
Rika looked up to see who had shot her, only to see the broker running toward her.
He had not only shot her but the officer as well. He looked pissed off after what happened, and Rika understood the reason behind his anger.
“You! You were a spy all along, and you caused me to be found out! I don’t think you will be heading anywhere as long as I am around.”
The broker yelled angrily before he hit Rika on top of her head to knock her out.
That was how Rika lost consciousness, and she did not remember a thing of what happened.
People quickly ran around to get to safety, but an alpha pair continued to look around for Rika on this sinking ship.
