Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 375
Chapter 375: Ch 375: Conflicts
“Miss, maybe you should go to sleep now. The dark circles under your eyes are becoming more and more prominent by the day. At this rate, you would collapse-”
Emily’s glare shut up her people, who seemed to be looking out for her health.
She knew they only said what they did because they were concerned about her. But that did not mean that Emily wanted to hear those words.
Especially now that Rika had disappeared.
This time, the secretary (a new one and a beta) got the message that Emily wanted to be alone, and he quickly backed down.
He made the mistake of backing away into the door, and his heart skipped more than a few beats when the door was banged open, and Damian entered the room.
The dominant alpha immediately headed toward Emily’s desk and dropped a stack of papers on top of it.
“What is it? Can’t you see that I am already busy? Why are you burdening me with more work? Do you want to die?”
Emily asked as she looked up. She was not faring well in a life without Rika in it.
But if she looked like she was barely alive, Damian looked like an omen of death. People had stopped approaching him because of his strong pheromones and his habit of snapping at people before knocking the wind out of them.
Damian was unstable right now, but Emily could not look after him. She was suffering from losing Rika just as much as the older teen was.
“I will be heading to China. We found traces of Rika there. I will bring her back.”
Damian spoke, and his voice caused the secretary to flinch and run away.
Emily would have preferred to do the same, but then she realized what Damian said and froze.
“What did you say about Rika? Was she found? Did someone see her? When did they see her, and where? We cannot waste any more time here! We should leave-”
Emily stood up and began to decide, but Damian did not move. He looked at her sternly, making Emily realize that this was not what the older man wanted from her.
Suddenly, rage began to melt Emily’s mind, and she grabbed Damian by his collar to shake him.
“If you want to leave me back, don’t try it. I will not wait for you to act when this is about Rika.”
Emily yelled at the man before her, but Damian only looked away, not answering her question.
It was as good of an answer as Emily would get from this man, making Emily scoff in disbelief.
“Ha! I expected you to be petty about this, but not this much! Why should it be you that goes after Emily and not me, huh? What the hell did I do wrong? I can be just as capable as you-”
Emily’s legs suddenly collapsed under pressure, and she looked at the alpha in front of her with disbelief.
Damian had used his pheromones on Emily to make her submit. It had been a sudden thing that knocked the wind out of Emily. She wanted to stand, but her legs would not cooperate.
She was stuck where she was sitting.
“Y-You! What do you think you are-”
Emily called out, now trying to fight against the hold holding her down. But it was safe to say that she was unsuccessful in her endeavor.
Damian continued to look at her with a calm expression that did not allow Emily to know anything he was thinking about. It made Emily feel suffocated, but she pretended that she was okay.
“If you cannot handle this much, you won’t survive that crazy world. It would be best if I went alone and handled this all underground. You need to hold down the fort here.”
Damian did not ask Emily for favors quickly. He was often in his world and did things without telling Emily the reason behind what happened.
So, this was a surprise to Emily, but she also felt like she was being made fun of.

‘I hate feeling like this. This is all this man’s fault! If only he had not caused me to question everything I knew and caused me to rethink my choices! I want to go after Rika as well-!’
Emily felt torn between the rock and a valley. On one hand, she wanted to go after Rika and find her, but she also needed to ensure that the place Rika returned to was safe for her.
It was a dilemma that seemed to have no answer for her.
“Fine! Go and come back soon. I will wait for you right here. But please, don’t take too long! I don’t know how long I can maintain my sanity.”
Emily rubbed her forehead, and Damian did not even bother giving her a nod.
In the next hour, Damian was out of the city and heading toward China.
Emily did not doubt that the dominant alpha would have Rika with him when he returned. But it was only how long he would take to return.
“I should prepare for my Dinner with Natasha Goodwill and her family. As much as I hate those people, I want them to be there for Rika once she returns. As much as I would like for her to break all contact with this family, she is still related to them by blood.”
Emily quickly warped her stuff up and headed out to meet the family she did not want to.
This was going to be a dreadful meeting. Emily could tell this without even experiencing it once. But she was also ready to face the people her beloved lived with for her whole life.
‘Let’s get this show started. The sooner this dinner ends, the sooner I can return to caring for Rika and trying to find her.’
Emily expected a lot from visiting the Goodwill mansion but did not expect this sober and mourning atmosphere around the house.
Moreover, Suzie Goodwill was quiet for once.
