Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 377
Chapter 377: Ch 377: What it takes
“Mother, what are you saying? You never want to meet Rika again? No way! I won’t accept that! Rika is my younger sister! Why would I not want to meet her-”
“Mark, we will talk about it later.”
Natasha glared at her son, making him back down and reconsider whatever he was about to say.
He would tell that he was getting ahead of himself here.
If his mother had told him this, then it likely meant that she had a plan that she wanted to execute. All he needed to do was sit down and wait for her to do whatever she wanted.
Emily knew that Natasha Goodwill had a plan as well. But she did not want to say a single word about it now.
She had no time or energy to waste here when there were a ton of other things to prepare.
“I will head out now. If you want to know anything, then contact my new secretary. I hope you will not call me for unnecessary things.”
Emily was quick to take her leave.
Mark looked annoyed at her exit, but he did his best to hold his temper in.
But Natasha knew her son, and just as she had expected, he exploded as soon as they were alone.
“Mom! Are you serious? Are you going to leave Rika alone and not reach out? I thought you wanted to repair this relationship with her and-”
“There are some relationships and situations that spiral out of control. Once that happens, we need to let go and gain some distance. That helps us see things more clearly. This is such a situation for us as well. So, calm down and take some deep breaths now.”
Natasha reminded the teen in front of her. Mark looked angry, but he calmed down pretty quickly.
“Fine! I understand what you want me to do. But that does not mean that I have to like it, right?”
Mark asked, and Natasha shook off her.
“Of course not! You just need to know where your limits are and adapt according to them. The rest will be fine.”
…
‘Where am I…who am I…ugh, my head hurts. My name! Do I remember it?’
A pair of beautiful eyes opened in an abandoned shipyard. The only thing the owner of those eyes remembered was her name and that she was not supposed to be there.
Rika felt a sense of foreboding as she looked at where she was.
Her mind felt like a blank slate, but she instinctively knew she was not supposed to be here.
Being in this damp and crappy place made Rika’s lungs feel like they were on fire. Breathing felt uncomfortable, and she could swear that her lungs had water.
Wherever she was, she looked dark until the locked door opened, and someone stepped inside.
It was a young man Rika did not know before, but her body tensed up, indicating that she did not likely trust this man.
“Ah, you are finally awakened, princess! You all caused us a fright when your heart stopped breathing for a whole minute. The doctors had to become creative to bring you back to life…don’t look so disturbed. Nothing major happened to you…not that we know yet.”
The young man was chattering, and he spoke fast and loudly. His words made Rika feel a small headache, which she suppressed quickly.
The young alpha did not seem to like getting ignored by his captive, so he quickly grabbed Rika’s hair and turned her head toward his side.
“Hey! Don’t get too ahead of yourself, bitch! You might be an essential investment, but that does not mean we like or want your kind here.
I won’t care if you get thrown into the sea and become food for the fish. But our dear client would have our head if we accidentally harm you.”

The alpha sounded a little off and unhinged. Rika knew she should feel fear but could not make herself feel anything. Her emotions felt numb and a little suffocating. Emily felt like she was drowning in her sorrow.
‘This is too much! I feel like I cannot breathe properly right now.’
Rika wanted to grasp her neck, but she could not do that. She realized she had been tied when she tried to move her hands. Her moments were being restricted.
“Sorry, miss! But we need to take all the precautions to protect you. We can’t have a fish as big as you getting away from us.
But man, I was sure the report said you were a beta. But all I can smell from you is an omega. If you continue to be like that, then I won’t be able to control myself around you anymore.”
The alpha warned Rika, and she flinched in her binding.
Rika might not remember much, but the thought of this alpha being anywhere close to her neck and bonding spot made Rika feel sick.
Her instincts rejected such a proposal, and Rika instantly felt sick.
The alpha noticed the hint of green on Rika’s face, which enraged him. He grabbed Rika’s hair and pulled her head up.
“Huh! Are you feeling repulsed by what I said? Well, too bad because you don’t have a choice in this matter! I will-”
“Bobby! Stop it! Didn’t you hear the boss speaking about this? He will kill you if you pull any of your usual shit here! Now come out and leave our hostage alone.”
The beta’s voice saved Rika. She felt thankful when that man suddenly called out to Rika’s captive and made the young alpha leave.
“Tsk, they ruin all my fun all the time. You should consider yourself lucky that we got interrupted this time. Otherwise, I would not have let you go this easily.”
Rika felt a shiver of disgust go down her spine at those words, but she held herself together and decided not to speak up. The alpha quickly left, and Rika was finally able to breathe correctly.
She had no idea what made her land in her current predicament, but she wanted to run away and never look back.
