Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 379
Chapter 379: Ch 379: The proof
“Suzie, may I come in?… What are you doing? Why are you packing all your stuff like this?”
The omega looked up from the stuff she was packing toward her father. But she did not stop what she was doing, even when the older omega entered the room.
This place smelled like Suzie, and she felt safe here. No one could come here and hurt her, much less that idiotic alpha who marked her and then left her to head home.
‘I need to get away from this place! That alpha knows where I live. He will come after me and ruin everything I have.’
Suzie felt panicked, and now that she had settled down a little bit, her fight-and-flight response kicked in, making her feel agitated and wanting to run away.
Her father was also an omega, so he likely understood what was happening with Suzie. He decided to help her settle back down before pulling her into a hug.
“It will be fine, Suzie. Nothing happened, and you have your family with you to combat anything that would happen. There is no need to panic like this.”
Suzie felt better at her father’s reassurance, but she was still unconvinced that he was on her side.
“You will not help me when it’s my time of need! You, Mother, and Mark are too preoccupied with Rika to notice me. Do you want to replace me with a beta? Please don’t do that! I want to be a part of this family as well.
No! I was a part of this family first! I am an omega. Rika has no right to interfere here and-”
Suzie felt her temper flare but deflated as soon as she felt power up. Her emotions fluctuated all over the place and did not make her feel better.
“Hey, Suzie! Sweaty! What’s this about? Us looking for Rika’s well-being does not mean that we will forget about you. Both you and Rika are a family-”
“That’s a lie, and you know it. You and your mother can only look after two kids at a time! Mother puts most of her attention on Mark since he’s the oldest and he needs to take over, but you were mine!
You always took care of me and put me first! You never looked at Rika because you only had time and love for one child – me. But she is taking that away from me! I cannot take it. I will not lose you—all the books and TV.s say that a perfect family is a unit of four. Rika is ruining this for us.
You felt the same way, right? That was why you ignored her all the time.”
Suzie finally asked the question she had buried inside her chest for so long. Her father was the perfect person to ask this, too.
For the first time, Suzie saw her father look shocked and betrayed. He looked ready to cry and scold her at the same time.
But when he opened his mouth, no words came out of it. Instead, a sigh escaped the older male, and he tapped Suzie on the head to calm her down.
“Things are not as black-and-white in real life as you think, Suzie. The reason I neglected Rika all this time had nothing to do with her not being a part of our family. It was just…my neglect and guilt that made me keep away.”
The male omega looked guilty as he looked at the side.
Even now, when he knew that Rika was in trouble and needed to help her, he could not bring himself to regret his previous actions and stance toward Rika.
His instincts just did not like Rika and the fact that his alpha carried that child. Rika’s existence felt like betrayal in the worst way possible, even when the alpha knew that it was not.
Natasha told him what she would do and asked for permission.
“Ha! You say that now, and you worry about all this. But as soon as Rika will return, you will go back to ignoring her. Won’t it be better if you ignore her, to begin with?
If you will cut her out of our lives, do it properly.”
Suzie snapped back, and she pulled her covers over her head.
The male omega felt many things that day but knew he needed to talk to Natasha and clarify things. He could not let his emotions go back and forth like this. He needed an answer from his wife.
“Darling, can we talk for a minute?”
He asked the busy female, and Natasha stopped talking on the phone for a second before she looked at him.
“Hmm, you want to talk to me? Sure! Just give me a second. I need to make this call-”

“Maybe it is time we stop all this. We’ve looked for Rika long enough. We should let others take care of this and back away-”
The male omega stopped speaking as soon as he noticed the look on his wife’s face.
Natasha Goodwill had a tight look, rage filling her eyes. It seemed as if she could not believe what bullshit she was hearing coming out of her husband’s mouth.
“Turn around and head back. I will pretend I did not hear a word you said. We don’t have to talk about this ever again either.”
Natasha proposed to her husband, and this was the most peaceful she had been toward the older.
But the older omega did not feel ready to drop this topic now that it had been brought up.
“Fine! Let’s talk for a bit about this, Natasha! I said I would try to accept Rika, but it feels challenging to do that.
My instincts cannot get used to her since I did not birth her. She looks like you and feels like a part of you. And that makes my inner omega go wild. I know that you did not cheat on me, but Rika’s existence makes my inner omega feel like you did. I don’t even know what to do anymore.”
