Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 381
Chapter 381: Ch 381: Loss of a life
‘I should have realized it. I felt this was the case in my heart, but I did not want to believe I would get betrayed like this.’
Natasha Goodwill looked down at the results in front of her and the outcome just as her husband had told her.
The doner in front of her pregnancy was marked as X, and her husband’s name was nowhere to be found.
“I-I apologize for this, Madam! But you were too excited, and your husband’s donation would not work. So we….compromised and found the closest match. Don’t worry! The doner for this one is dead, and he ever only donated for this one pregnancy.
He will not come to ask you for money or anything else.”
The doctor assured the alpha before him, even as his heart skipped more than a few beats. He was aware that he was playing with death.
He would not have done this if he had known this secret would be exposed one day, but he had no choice back then.
Out of all his samples, this was the only one that matched the alpha’s constitution and ensured full autonomy for the child.
“I see! What happened cannot be changed, but I want you to delete all records of this happening and modify them to include my husband’s name on them.”
The alpha threatened, and the doctor quickly nodded.
Who cared if this could get him fired and have his medical license revoked? His life was more precious than either of these things.
He quickly got to work and modified whatever he could on the papers.
This removed the last evidence of Rika’s origins from the world. No one would ever say that Rika was not her child anymore.
Not even her husband.
But Natasha felt worried for some reason. Things were about to go south quickly, but she had no idea why she felt this way.
…
Rika had fainted.
She did not remember fainting.
She only remembered emptying her stomach out and then trying to stand. The room had spun in her vision and-
‘Ah, now I remember how I fainted. But the bigger question is – where am I, and what happened? I should-‘
“Don’t move around, miss! You just have a miscarriage, and your body needs time to heal up. Hey, are you alright? Miss-”
The doctor asked. Rika felt her head swin.
She felt hot and cold at the same time, and her hand came up to her stomach to clutch it.
Rika’s mind was confused.
‘I was…pregnant? When and how? I don’t think I have a permanent mark on my neck. Then, did I sleep around before I lost my memory? I don’t-‘
“Miss, you need to relax. Yes! Slowly let go of your hand, and let us treat your wound. There is no need to feel this tense. Everything is alright.”
The doctor’s soothing words reassured Rika, easing her anxiety and allowing her to breathe more freely.
“Good! You are making good progress, Miss. How do you feel now? Does it feel better? You must avoid anything stressful for the next few days and surround yourself with things that make you happy.”
The doctor advised Rika, but she did not even remember what made her happy,
When she tried to recall what happened, she drew a blank. Her memory felt a lot fuzzier than before, and Rika was sure that it was all the drugs in her system that were making her feel like this.

“Can I take her home now, doctor? Keeping her here for long is not a good idea.”
The boss’s sudden entrance sent a wave of tension through the room, immediately putting Rika on edge. This man was the reason she lost her baby, after all.
“Ah, you can take her home now. M-Miss, do you want to go back now?”
The doctor was likely a good guy, putting his life on line by asking Rika this question. He had noticed how tense Rika was in this man’s company, and he put two-on-two together.
Unfortunately, Rika could not use his help because she was being held hostage.
She had already lost her child; she did not want to lose an innocent life either.
“I’m fine! I am ready to head home if I can now. I would like to rest at home.”
Rika assured the doctor, but he still did not look convinced.
He took one last look at the boss before he helped Rika stand up and finished treating her.
Rika followed the boss outside without speaking, and the man waited to talk to her in the car.
“I was not aware that you were pregnant. If I knew, then I would have handled you more delicately. You and your child would have become a great hostage for us, Rika Goodwill.”
The man spoke, and for a second, Rika felt glad that her child did not have to suffer this fate.
As soon as that thought passed her mind, Rika forced it down. It made her feel guilty to think like this for a life that had been lost.
The man accompanied her to the most luxurious rooms she remembered seeing.
“This will be your home for the unseen future. Don’t try to escape because you won’t be able to. Enjoy your stay here, and call the front desk if you need anything to eat.”
After that, the man quickly left, and Rika felt agitated and alone. She wanted to rage, but even she realized this was not the right place.
“Fuck this! If I am stuck here, I will make this man go bankrupt. I have no desire to be his puppet and wait to be released. I feel sorry for this hotel staff now because I am about to become their worst nightmare.”
Rika decided on this, and from that point on, the hotel staff began their nightmare.
They all dreaded a call from her room because they knew they would lose even more money. It all started when Rika picked up the phone and made the first call downstairs.
