Chapter 41: Ch 41: One complication after another
Emily rushed Rika to the hospital as soon as she could. She had left Damian behind to clean up the mess they had caused.

Emily, with a flicker of confidence, believed that her boyfriend, Damian, was more than capable of handling the aftermath. And if he faltered, Alpha Goodwill would be their steadfast pillar of support.

Emily, torn between her disdain for Rika’s family and her need for assistance, reluctantly exploits them for her own purposes.

She had chosen a general hospital rather than one associated with their family or business. That way, the chances of Rika being recognised and having a repeat of what happened were slim.

But the doctor, seemingly taking an eternity to emerge from Rika’s room, was causing a knot of worry to tighten in Emily’s stomach.

The examination should have taken at most fifteen minutes, but it was already half an hour.

Her phone was also going off, but Emily was not ready to pick it up. She knew that she would snap at anyone who called her right now.

The phone flashed the name of Alpha Goodwill, which gave Emily more reason to ignore the older alpha.

If she could not even bother to come after her daughter, then she did not deserve to know about the said daughter.

Somehow, Damian came after her before he doctor came out from running tests on Rika.

The older alpha was covered in blood, and his appearance seemed to startle the hospital staff. More than one person had looked at Damian and hesitantly tried to ask if he needed treatment.

But the silent alpha had planted his ass in the seat and glared at anyone who came near him.

Anyone would tell this his mood was terrible, and even the sweet omega scents did nothing to calm him down.

“Dami, you are scaring the staff. Suppose you do not want to scare Rika, shower and change. Also, your pheramones are clogging the hallway.”

Emily half threatened her boyfriend and half reasoned with him.

“No!”

The older alpha replied with a single word, but that coveted what he wanted terribly.

His words were accompanied by a flash of pheromones strong enough to make the doctors and other alphas buckle and fall to their knees. But Damian seemed to have no intention of holding himself back.

‘What a brat. Does he not see how much trouble he is causing? Why did I even start to date such a person?’

Emily wondered, but she already knew the answer in her heart.

She also understood why the older alpha behaved this way and decided not to say anything more.

However, she did bring out her scent masker and sprayed the older alpha with it. That helped some, and people were able to breathe easier.

Emily did it in time for the doctor to leave Rika’s room. He had a frown on his face, and that never meant good news to their side.

Still, Emily wanted to believe that Rika was all right and that there were no complications.

“Hey, is Rika alright? Is there anything wrong with her? Her fever was relatively high, and I felt worried about her. Can I do anything-”

Emily let out questions upon questions, but the doctor was patient with her and allowed Emily to say what she wanted.

Once she was calm, the doctor started to ask the questions he wanted.

“May I know what kind of environment my patient grew up in? There are a lot of complications in her body. Did a proper physician never check her before?”

The doctor asked worriedly, and Emily felt her worry increase.

“Well, Rika’s family situation is…hmm…complicated. However, she had regular bi-annual checkups that never showed anything wrong. Why is there something wrong with her? Is it Cancer?”

Emily asked in a worried voice.

The doctor’s avoidance of the main subject made her feel worried as well.

“Calm down, Miss! It is nothing as big as cancer. The patient is relatively healthy but shows signs of stunned hormonal growth. In simpler terms, her body is at a constant war of wanting to present, but she does not have enough support.”

Emily fell silent at those words.

She understood what the doctor said, but it did not register.

“Has your friend ever complained about being insensitive about pheramones, even moreso than a beta? It is rare, but this stunned growth can happen when the child does not receive enough pheromonal support during childhood.”

The doctor continued to explain, but things made sense to Emily.

She had heard about this condition (everyone has, but it was not common), but she never expected Rika to develop such a condition.

But it also made sense, given how Rika was treated and how much she was left behind. No wonder things never clicked for her.

“Is there any way for us to treat it? Wait! We need to ask Rika what she thinks about it all first! I want to give that stupid family a piece of my mind…Dami, no! I know what you are planning, but now is not the time. Just focus on Rika for now.”

Emily felt angry, but she could tell her boyfriend felt even worse.

She had known Damian long enough to know when he would do something stupid and dangerous. And this was one of those times.

However, as much as Emily wanted to let Damian do what he wanted, she also knew that this was the time they needed to focus on Rika.

She needed their help to break away and recover.

“Well, you should discuss with the patient what to do in the morning. For now, just let her sleep her injuries away.”

“However, I should warn you that the treatment for her condition will not be easy. We just caught it at a time when the treatment is still possible, but it is going to be painful and annoying. Letting her live her life like she currently is might be kinder.”

The doctor advised, and Emily felt like cursing once more.
