Chapter 61: Ch 61: How can you deny that?
Rika’s body felt like it was breaking down, but that comforting smell in the car helped her manage.
But as soon as they reached the hospital, Rika was snatched away from that comforting smell, which made her body ache once more.
Overwhelmed by the desire to return to the safety of the previous room, Rika sought solace in the comforting embrace of Emily’s chest. Yet, with his unyielding authority, the doctor had different plans for her, shattering her sense of security.
“I am sure you feel like crawling out of your skin, miss. But we cannot allow you to do that. And heading back would be dangerous for you as well. So, how about you take this pill to start with? It will help you control yourself?”
The doctor asked as he handed Rika a small white pill that looked suspiciously like a suppressant.
But Rika’s mind and body were not in any shape to fight back with the doctor. She ended up consuming the pill, and her body relaxed a lot.
“Now that you are feeling better, we can start testing on you. Don’t worry! We will not do anything weird without your permission. Now, calm down and relax. We need to take a little bit of your blood.”
The doctor was kind and gentle with Rika. He was also a beta, which made Rika feel less nervous about allowing him to be nearby.
When she took the medicine, Rika felt floating in the clouds. It made her feel dizzy and lethargic but in a good way.
By the time Rika was done with her tests, the effects of her medicine and her own body’s condition were improving.
The doctor had also left her alone all this time, but he quickly returned to check up on her condition as soon as he was sure Rika had regained her wits.
“Your condition looks much more stable than before. But don’t try to push your luck. You need as much rest as possible in your current state.”
The doctor looked as tired as Rika felt at the moment. But his professional smile was nonjudgmental, and it helped Rika breathe a sigh of relief.
The doctor looked glad to see that Rika was relaxing, so that may be why he decided to bring up a heavy topic in front of Rika.
“Do you realise that you cannot keep going like this? No matter how well your body may be acting, you cannot ignore the warning it gives you.”
The doctor spoke harshly, and Rika felt her heart skip a beat.
Just because no one had brought up her condition before did not mean that she was not right, and the doctor did not seem ready to allow Rika to be in denial any longer.
“Are you talking about my condition? What is wrong with it?”
Rika asked in a cautious voice.
She already had a feeling she knew what the doctor wanted to tell her, but she did not outright come and say it.
Maybe it was because she wanted to be in denial or because she did not want to confirm what she already knew happened.
‘I am running away from the truth. I need some time to confirm my condition. I am sure this time was a fluke that will not happen again.’
Rika tried to assure herself, but she knew she was trying to fool herself by doing this.
The doctor was also not going to let Rika be in delusion.
“I understand that it is a tough situation for you. But even then, you must face it and know what your body is doing to you.”
The doctor warned, and Rika took a sharp breath.
She did not want to show that she was affected by those words, but her reaction escaped her without her response.
“It is life-changing, but you don’t need to worry. There is a lot of help available in the market for this kind of thing, and we can slowly ease you into your new dynamic-”
“I don’t want to be an omega. I want to remain a beta my whole life. Who wants to deal with those pheromones, heat, and other things? I am happy as I am.”
Rika tried to remain calm, but she felt like her life was collapsing in front of her eyes.

The previous doctor she visited assured her that she could lead an everyday life if she did not agitate her condition.
And that was what Rika tried to do this whole time.
“I can tell that you are agitated right now. It might be the side effects of the suppressors. It looks like this was a poor match for your body. I will try to find other ones. We can talk about your options later.”
Rika resisted the urge to throw something at the doctor’s back as he left the room. But she held it all inside until she was alone.
“Fuck my life! It’s one thing after another. I want to fall asleep and wake up knowing it was all a dream.”
Unfortunately, there was a big difference between a dream and reality. And this was Rika’s reality.
…
“Well, that went better than I expected. She did not throw anything at me, nor did she threaten to kill me or herself. That is a positive sign…or maybe not.”
The doctor sighed as he came out of the hospital room.
He had conducted all the tests he could, but it took longer than he expected. He could read the impatience in the red-haired alpha’s eyes.
“So, can I head in to meet Rika now? You better not give me any negative news about her. I am not in a mood to tolerate them.”
The doctor felt a shudder go down his spine at the cold look he got.
As a beta doctor, he was often assigned beta cases and nothing more. That was why he was not used to facing such dominating looks from anyone.
So, he needed to prepare to face the alpha pair.
