Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 63
Chapter 63: Ch 63: Drugged case
Caught in the limbo between anxiety and resignation, Rika had drifted into a restless sleep. But as she roused, a sudden awareness pierced through her grogginess, and she was not alone.
When she woke up, a familiar face was in front of her, and a familiar arm warped around her.
Rika could feel a taller body spooning her from behind as her eyes took in Emily’s form in front of her.
“Huh? Did we have a sleepover? I don’t remember anything that happened. Both Emily and Damian look to be asleep. Wait! Where even am I?”
Rika asked as her spinning head finally stopped, but she could concentrate on her surroundings.
First, she noticed the creamy white walls and the green bed blinds, which gave her a guess at where she was.
But the natural nail in the coffin was the heart monitor beside her bed.
“Oh yeah! I got brought to the hospital because I had heat-like symptoms, and my body was breaking apart. I am sure something else also happened, but I don’t remember.”
Most people in Rika’s situation would wonder what happened in this room and why she ended up between her two friends.
But Rika had stopped questioning it long ago. Now, she just went with the flow of things and let the pair do what they wanted.
“Still! They need to stop putting me in the middle when they sleep. Don’t they know what kind of message they are sending me?”
Rika would take this the right way, so maybe that’s why they did things like this to her anyway.
Rika was about to leave the bed and leave this formation before anyone could see her.
But the door opened before she could crawl her way over Emily’s body.
“It is nice to see that you are awake and lucid enough not to snap at me this time. How is your body feeling? There are no side effects of the pills I gave you, right?”
The doctor asked in a worried voice, but Rika felt her breath catch in her throat as soon as her eyes met the doctor.
Her heart jumped, and Rika let out an almost silent scream.
It woke Emily, and she warped her arm around Rika to pull her flush against her body. Emily’s audible growl also warned the doctor not to come close.
Rika recognised that this doctor was different from the one who came to check on her yesterday. This one had a more omegas look to him.
But it was clear that Emily did not care nor want him anywhere near herself and Damian.
Poor omega doctor collapsed as soon as he faced such a situation.
He had never expected to face a situation like this before, where a possessive alpha growled at him to stay away. He was proud of his sweet and calming pheromones and bragged about them to everyone.
“Emily, that is enough. You are scaring my doctor. You! Could you hurry up and get out? If you need to send a doctor here, send someone who is either nursing a baby or someone else enough not to be considered a threat.”
Rika patted Emily’s head to calm her down.
That lowered Emily’s anxiety, but it did not end it. The omega could barely pick himself up and get out of the room before he collapsed outside.
The next time a doctor entered Rika’s room, it was an old omega lady who looked to be nearing her retirement age.
Her presence did not seem to scream as a ‘threat’ to either Emily or Damian, and they finally relaxed.
“My dear! May I check your pulse and other things? We need to make sure you are healthy.”
The old lady asked with shaking hands, and Rika suddenly felt nervous as soon as she saw the old lady pick up the needle to draw her blood.
But contrary to what Rika feared, the granny was good, and her hands turned steady once she finished with Rika.

Her calm and motherly vibes helped Rika relax, and she wanted to bury herself in that comfortable presence.
“You are free to leave now, dear. Make sure you keep taking suppressants for the time being. Once your body settles, this all should go back. But if you have another seizure, take this special pink pill and come back here.”
The old lady was incredibly patient. She did not ask Rika to choose what she wanted to do on the spot.
But it also felt like the old lady was not telling Rika the truth.
It made Rika want to head back home and sleep the day away. After all, the night was fast approaching.
“Rika, we will drop you home. You don’t need to worry about work. I asked Rocxx to tell the store that you will not be in today. You need to relax and recover.”
Emily assured her as Damian held his hand out to help Rika up. It felt nice to have someone to rely on.
If you ask Rika what she remembered about her journey back to the dorms, she cannot tell you anything. She was walking, and Emily was talking. Rika was even replying, but her brain retained nothing but the feeling of dizziness.
“Rika, give me your phone. I will call for someone from the dorm to come and grab you.”
Emily extended her hand, and Rika handed her the phone.
Rika did not know whom Emily called, but she had Charon come and pick her up within the next five minutes.
Neither Emily nor Damian stepped out of the car when Rika stumbled and was caught by Charon.
She only remembered Charon’s worried expression before her friend drove off.
“Rika, what happened to you now? Are you…drunk? Or, perhaps drugged? What the hell did you take?”
Charon asked in a worried voice, and Rika remembered saying something like ‘pasta’ before collapsing right on top of Charon.
This was worthy of one of the most embarrassing memories in her life. 0/10 would not recommend doing this again.
