Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 65
Chapter 65: Ch 65: An unexpected guest
Rika was used to a family constantly in her face and asked her many questions about her day.
But the real problem started when Rika wanted to avoid answering them and telling them how her day went.
It always led to fights and a lot of yelling.
For Rika, the absence of constant questioning from the people she was living with was a breath of fresh air. It was a relief, a respite from the usual responsibility of sharing about her day.
Charon was carrying most of the weight of their conversation during dinner, and Rika felt relaxed.
The actual announcement of the day came after the dinner was done.
“Rika, Charon, I have some excellent news to share. Fei and Flourite will be returning three days from now. I hope you will welcome them both with open arms.”
The house owner informed the pair that this news did not impact Rika and Rika.
She did not know those two people, so she did not know how to feel about them yet.
But Charon’s irritation grew, and she let Rika know she was unhappy with this news. Before Rika could even ask her what had happened, Charon spoke up.
“Fuckkkkk, so the noisy duo is back. Look, Rika, you can ignore them if they ask you any unnecessary questions. If you see anything lying around where it is not supposed to be, do not pick it up and put it in its right place. The twins will fight you about it.”
Charon grabbed Rika’s shoulder to shake her and emphasise the importance of her words.
Rika was unsure if the shaking did it or the desperation in Charon’s voice. But it got the point across to Rika quite well.
“I get it! I understand. Can you please stop shaking me like this now? I don’t think my stomach can handle this.”
Rika complained, and Charon immediately let her go with a nervous laugh.
“Hahaha, sorry about that. Sometimes, I need to remember what I am doing and end up causing trouble for others. I will try to be more careful next time.”
Charon promised, but Rika’s shoulder throbbed in pain. She was sure Charon’s grip had bruised it.
And when Rika checked up on herself, her condition was just as she feared – a big bruise on her shoulder that looked oddly suspicious.
Thankfully, it was nothing clothes could not hide.
…
“Are you…alright? Your shoulders look stiff today, and you should avoid putting pressure on them. Did something happen with your friend? Did he hurt you? Are you sure you are fine and do not need any medical assistance?”
Daniel asked all these questions in quick succession.
He looked worried, but the air was still a little awkward because of what had happened with Damian and how he behaved when he came to pick Rika up.
Rika wanted to be bothered by this, but she felt numb inside. She did not know why, but when confronted, her usual fear and other emotions were not there.
‘How odd. Is this a side effect of the pills I took this morning?
“You seem sick. First, your shoulders are stiff, and now you are spacing out. We should get you to a doctor and get a warrant against your friend. You don’t have to be afraid.”
Daniel promised, but it caused Rika to laugh out loud. She could not stop once she started laughing, and Daniel looked offended by Rika’s actions.
“I am so sorry, but just give me a minute to control myself. And you need to be corrected. Damian was not the one who did anything to me. He is not that kind of Alpha who would hurt me for no reason.”
Those words felt right to speak out loud.
At this point, Rika had seen Damian bust too many skulls, and he was proud of it. But she could still tell he had a line he would not cross…hopefully.

Daniel did not look like he believed Rika’s words, but he did not ask any more questions.
She almost felt thankful for the customer who chose to walk in at that time and distract them. But that relief turned into annoyance and sympathy once she noticed the panting omega that ran into the shop.
“H-Help me out! Please help me out! They are after me, and they will catch me. I-I do not want to die or be mated to that older man. So please, do something about this.”
The omega that ran into Rika’s arms panted as he tried to clutch Rika tighter and burrow his face in her neck.
Rika felt repulsed by the thought of having an omega clinging to her. All her instincts told her to push this man back. Even the barely-present smell she felt made her sick.
Ultimately, she could not handle it, so she pushed the taller man away from her.
It caused the omega to fall on his ass, and the tears and pheromones worsened at the shock of being rejected.
“Rika, what the hell are you doing? You cannot treat an omega like that! They are delicate and…are you alright?”
Daniel and the other customers looked at Rika like a criminal who deserved no rights. But Rika was not in any state to worry about them or their judgmental looks.
She was busy trying not to fall into shock and control the food coming up her throat due to the sudden influx of omega pheromones toward her.
Fate proved that there was no sympathy for Rika because no sooner had she started to calm down than their front door was broken apart, and a pair of juvenile alphas entered the shop.
They all looked to be between 12-16, and Rika could instantly tell they were bad news.
Even the omega beside her shook where she stood as soon as she noticed these teenagers walking inside.
She feared them and what these people would do to her if she were caught. And that fear reflected clearly in her eyes.
