Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 75
Chapter 75: Ch 75: I am so sure
“Emily can take care of herself.”
Damian spoke with such confidence that Rika felt jealous. She wanted someone to believe in her as much as Damian believed in Emily.
But that was a tall order to fulfill when Rika could not even bring herself to believe in herself.
“You’ll be fine as well. You are much stronger than you give yourself credit for. You made me want to live, so you should also live.”
Rika paused, feeling sick and sorry, and her attention instantly moved toward what Damian said to her.
“Hey, wait a minute! What do you mean by those words? Did I say something to you, Damian? I don’t remember ever having any meaningful conversation with you! Is your memory flawed?”
Damian scoffed at Rika’s quick words.
She wanted him to elaborate on the words he spoke to her, but the alpha seemed content to be where he was and not talk anymore.
“Oi! Why have you turned to a mute now? It would be best if you spoke up. Hello!”
Rika called out again, her sickness forgotten. Damian continued to pretend that he had not heard a single word that had been said to him.
It was a comfortable and familiar situation that slowly made Rika feel better. She was thankful for this interference and even more grateful when she did not have to think about anything.
The silence felt pleasant and calming. Rika basked in it until she heard Emily exiting the building, her phone at her ear, and talking a mile away.
Her expression clearly shows that Emily is angry and that someone will pay to entice her anger.
“Did you take care of it?”
Damian asked Emily that first, even before she approached him. His calm words sent a shiver down Rika’s spine.
It was a causal question, but Rika’s instincts insisted that it was anything but a typical question. Damian’s aura felt threatening and even a little demanding.
On the other hand, Emily looked relaxed, but her eyes had the same predatory look as Damian’s.
“Just give me a minute. I need to make one last phone call before we bury that stupid shop. I cannot believe they manage their employees so poorly.”
Emily complained, and Rika knew precisely what was happening.
However, even though she sympathizes with the poor employees, she does not stop Emily from doing what she wants.
Rika knew better than to believe that Emily would stop her revenge just because Rika asked her to.
It would only delay the inevitable.
‘This is why I hate shopping with these two or in high-end stores. Just because I do not dress or smell the part of the elite world, they decide to treat me differently.’
Rika sighed as she quickly opened the back door before she could be forced to be in someone’s lap again.
She did not like being tested and teased, but she knew that this was what would happen if she did not hurry up and claim her seat.
Emily was the second one to move, just a second before Damian moved.
“Dami, you take the wheel this time. I want to enjoy sitting in the back. Drive safe and make sure you keep an eye on the road.”
Emily entered the back seat a second before Damian did, and he looked pissed off. His glare sent shivers down Rika’s spine, but Emily looked unphased.
It made Rika wonder if it was because they both were dating or because they both were alphas.
No matter the answer, Rika was sure about one thing—she would never be brave enough to stand up against Damian when he glared. Not when it weakened her knees and her heart skipped many beats.

A pair of hands quickly blocked Rika’s eyes so they could no longer look at Damian. Rika felt glad for it and leaned against Emily’s chest in relief.
“Dami, enough of it. You can just drive, or we will be late. We have a special appointment that we need to keep, right?”
Emily’s voice sounded cheery, but Rika could not judge her without looking at her expression.
The enticing smell Rika could smell all around her seemed to lull her into sleep. And before Rika knew it, she had dozed off.
Emily woke her up twice to change her clothes and again to touch her face.
The third time Emily woke up, she was in front of the casino and felt cold as soon as the air touched her body.
Rika had just noticed her clothes, which were very different from her usual style of covering her body.
The off-shoulder dress felt tight around Rika’s small frame, clinging to all her curves before ending just a little too close to her knees.
It felt exposing and made Rika nervous to be dressed like this.
“Emily, can’t I change clothes before we go in? This dress is too exposing for me. It would be different if we were three alone, but this is a public space. It feels far too…revealing.”
Rika complained as she felt every slight touch on her body.
Damian’s hands were against her waist, and Emily’s arm interweaved with her own; because of these clothes, it all felt too personal.
It was almost like Rika was not wearing anything, mainly because the dress stretched across her breasts.
“Hmm, I don’t see a problem with your dress. I like seeing you in these clothes. They suit you and make you look pretty.”
Emily complimented Damian, who seemed to agree.
And indeed, Rika was not lying when she said she did not mind wearing these clothes privately. But public was a little too much for her.
Especially since she knew what would happen as soon as she was left alone.
However, since Emily seemed confident that nothing would happen, Rika decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and try to test the situation.
She exited Emily’s arms and broke Damian’s hold on her waist before moving down the hallway and toward the bathroom.
