Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 78
Chapter 78: Ch 78: Pale in Comparison
Suzie looked at the alpha pair in front of her with a gentle and possessive look. Her eyes moved all over Rika’s back, and she felt jealous of how Rika was lying all over Emily.
It was clear that Rika was sick, so she behaved like this. But being sick was no excuse for her to hog Emily like this.
‘This is supposed to be my place. I am supposed to be the one who is all over Emily and has her scent marking her. Rika cannot even give these superior Alphas what they need. So why do they stick together when they have me by their side?’
Suzie was genuinely perplexed every time she saw such a display of affection. It felt like she was being dissed, and her beliefs were being rejected.
Despite knowing that she was in the right, it made her feel as if she was the bad guy.
And she did not like it.
‘There is no way I am wrong. Everyone says that I am the better child between me and Rika. I am an omega; I am sweet and caring. I am also better looking and have more things. I am the better choice, and I will prove it.’
Suzie was confident that people would take her side if she started a conflict here. But she did not do that.
Instead, she subtly sent a message to the alpha pair by winking in their direction.
This was how omegas flirted in the dramas she saw on the TV.
But both Emily and Damian cringed at her actions and turned her head away. They also looked much angrier than she expected them to be with her.
‘What? Why are they looking at me like I did something wrong? I just told them the truth. No! Stop looking at me like that.’
Suzie’s expression was flattered, and her mental state worsened with the slightest hint of disapproval.
Before she could break down, Mark decided to interfere and take her side.
“You don’t have to glare at Suzie like that. She did not say anything wrong. You should not have brought Rika if you were going to be late. You are a CEO now. Shouldn’t you behave like it and stop picking on someone you are interested in?”
Mark subtly asked, trying to hint to everyone that Emily and Damian liked Suzie.
Everyone gathered around the table was influential, and Mark wanted to establish Suzie’s importance in front of them.
That was the only reason he and his mother had allowed Suzie to come here today.
‘Shit! If I had known that this idiotic alpha pair would always bring Rika here and stick to her, I would have rescheduled this meeting for when Rika was busy. I cannot afford to have her image be tarnished like this.’
Unfortunately, neither Rika nor Damian intended to play nice with them.
“Ha! First, you called us out using Rika’s name, and now that we came with her, you want us to leave her behind? Wouldn’t it have been better if you had not called for us in the first place?”
Emily asked, and everyone gasped aloud at her words.
They all also turned to look at Suzie and Mark to see what they would reply with next.
Mark stopped Suzie the second she opened her mouth. A lot of damage had been caused tonight already, and there was no way he could afford to tarnish Suzie’s reputation any more than this.
“Emily, please calm down. We are almost like family, so don’t hold grudges like this. Come, sit down so that we can have some fun. Why don’t you give Rika to me? I am sure that she will feel better if she is with her family.”
Mark asked as he held his arms out to grab Rika.
But Emily was faster than him, and she pushed Rika into Damian’s arms. That was the end of all interaction.
With Damian’s arms warped around Rika like iron shackles, no one dared speak up. They were all too afraid of him to say anything.
That was why they all watched in wonder (and jealousy in Suzie’s case) when Rika opened her eyes and blinked a few times before slapping Damian on his chest and arm.
“Let go! You are holding too tight. I am not comfortable like this.”

Rika complained, and people gasped when Damian did not hurt her. Instead, he sat down and pulled Rika’s body in his lap.
That was the end of all conversations related to this topic.
Emily’s lack of response and soft gaze added to this condition and made people realise that the alpha pair agreed.
“O-Oh my! Looks like all three of you are pretty close friends. Why have I never heard about this before? Won’t you introduce us to your friend, Emily?”
Emily looked at the insignificant person who asked her this question.
Compared to the top 5 families in their business, no one was worth paying attention to. As the CEO of one of those five, Emily did not need to care for anyone’s opinion other than people on the same level as hers.
And currently, that only includes Damian.
She doubted Alpha Goodwill would interfere in this matter since she did care for Rika’s wellbeing.
“I would live to introduce Rika, but shouldn’t Mark do it? After all, Rika is his sister. One would think he would brag about it all the time.”
Emily shifted all the attention on Mark, and he felt caught off-guard.
“A-Ah, Rika is…well, I wanted to always talk about her but she is rather shy and not one for speaking much. I was afraid that she would feel awkward if I introduce her all of a sudden. But looks like Emily has a different idea.”
Mark tried to laugh it off and handle the situation.
He could feel Suzie glaring daggers at him because she was being ignored.
But the one who truly stuck the nail in the coffin was Damian.
“Rika is special. It’s good thing you do not talk about her. Whatever you do will pale in comparison to her real self.”
