Chapter 79: Ch 79: Because we are family
The table fell silent after Damian spoke.
No one had heard Damian speak before, so it was rumoured he could not speak. That was the only defect this alpha was said to have.
But it had suddenly been debunked. No one expected this outcome, so they were shocked to see this happen.
“Dami, it looks like you shocked them all speechless. I told you to speak up more. Why do you ignore everything except things that concern Rika?”
Emily did not look surprised by what happened.
Instead, she looked proud, and her face brightened as she looked at her mate.
“Too bothersome.”
That was Damian’s reply; no one dared to say anything more to him.
Suzie could not take this anymore.
The longer she stayed in that atmosphere, the more agitated she felt by events that were not under her control.
No one was paying attention to her, despite him being the only omega present anywhere nearby.
It bruised her ego, and Suzie could not take it anymore. She needed to bring all the attention back toward her.
“Mark, you said we would have a special guest tonight at our table, right? Didn’t Mother ask you to invite someone special? I am so excited to meet him again.”
Suzie spoke up in a cute voice that she knew Alphas liked.
As expected, they all turned to look toward her and admire her courage to speak up.
“A special guest? I don’t remember you saying anything about anything, Mark. Was it not supposed to be our usual gathering tonight?”
Suzie pouted as soon as the attention shifted away from her. This time, the object of her contempt was Mark.
Mark quickly understood Suzie’s feelings and what she wanted him to do. Therefore, he promptly decided to do what she instructed.
“Ah, you see! I did not consider inviting the special guest, nor did my mother. Suzie is being too modest when giving our mother all the credit for her efforts.”
“She was the one who suggested inviting Andrew Tweten. We randomly met recently. He used to be Suzie’s childhood friend and mine. What a twist of fate, right?”
Mark asked and sighed in relief as all the attention suddenly turned toward Suzie.
The fact that a current head of the five families used to be Suzie’s childhood friend and that they met again could only be described as fate by these people.
And that also meant that there was a possibility of Suzie being mated to that man.
“Oh my! This is such good news. Were you close as friends, Miss Suzie?”
Another alpha asked, and Suzie pretended to be under all this attention. This was what she wanted and had been carving all this time.
“Well, I don’t remember much of when I was a child since I was always sick. But I do believe we were good friends. At least, that is what Mother told me before.”
“I was not aware that we were friends. As far as I know, the only person I have ever been friends with is your sister, Rika. You both were just…there…”
Suzie was willing to lie through her teeth about this, but little did she know that the alpha she was beginning to get annoyed by would foil all her plans.
Everyone turned to look at the new addition at their table and a keen look in their eyes.
No one in the world had heard Andrew Tweten’s face. He had been in the spotlight for a long time now.

Unlike Emily, the newly appointed CEO, he had a firm grasp of the financial world.
Some people even said that his blood was made of gold, given his influence over money and the economy.
“It’s been long since we last met, Lady Steinz. It’s nice to meet you again, Damian. You are as close to Rika as you were when we were children. You never allowed me to play with her for long.”
Anyone with a pair of functional eyes could tell that the three Alphas were hostile to each other.
“Yeah! It has been years. I never thought that the pathetic alpha who pinned after Rika all the time to get her attention would ever want to come back. I was sure that you were gone for good.”
Once more, the attention shifted from the only omega in the room to the beefing alphas over a beta.
But before anyone could form any opinion, Andrew spoke up again.
“As if you have any right to say anything to me. You were also stuck with Rika back then. I knew her before you, but you did not care about that and continued to push us apart, right? Unfortunately, it seems not to affect my feelings.”
It was all but a confession at this point.
The watchers were still determining whether they were looking at it, but they knew this beef was personal and would only go down slowly.
Suzie felt most disturbed by this fight. Her pheromones were beginning to rise, and she was beginning to feel her body getting hot.
At this rate, she might also go into heat. But she would be okay with it if it would get all the alphas to concentrate on her.
Mark had a different idea and was quickly ready to jump between the beefing pair before the fight could escalate. But just as he stepped forward, Rika reacted.
Her expression turned from calm and sleeping to alarming and sick in a second before she dashed out the door.
Everyone blinked as they watched the beta flee away from the scene. Someone made a gesture to go after her when Mark reacted first.
He realised Suzie would only get her respect and attention if Rika was there. That was why sending her home was the only way Suzie would calm down and get all her attention.
“Don’t move. I will go after Rika. Since she is my family, I must go after her. I will send her home after this since it looks like she is not feeling well.”
