Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 86
Chapter 86: Ch 86: Destined mate
“Hey, I know I asked you this before, but where do you keep finding all these alphas to follow after you? And they are all such high-class alphas as well. I am a beta, but I can still smell and feel the pheromones these two have. It’s making me shiver.”
Daniel asked as soon as Rika settled Damian and Emily into a hidden corner where they wouldn’t be visible.
She had also hoped that the smell of sweet flowers would mask their alpha scent, but it seemed to have an opposite effect than what Rika wanted.
“Don’t pay too much attention to them. You’ve seen Daniel before. Like him, I’ve known Emily as a childhood friend. They are decent people who would not do anything bad.”
Well, that was a big fat lie.
As CEOs and future Mafia bosses, Emily and Damian had a crime list bigger than Rika would like to know.
‘Ignorance is bliss. As long as I do not hear and see these crimes, they did not happen to me. I do not need to be worried or scared of what did not happen.’
Rika was a master at ignoring things that bothered her. This was just one of those she vowed not to question in her life.
The first customer t to enter their shop.
That fragile and thin body, along with that shy glance…Yeah, that was an omega, for sure.
Daniel signalled Rika to deal with the omega rather than go out himself because she was easy to talk to.
Or, she at least looked less intimidating than Daniel did in the eyes of the common mass.
No matter how you looked at this omega, she did not seem part of the underworld. She was a clean and pure being who accidentally walked into the wrong part of town.
“Hello, welcome to our flower shop. How many can I help you out?”
Rika felt like dying on the inside as she continued to smile at the customer who walked in.
She was ignored as the omega continued to walk deeper inside and sniff the air. It was clear that she was here for a reason.
‘Ah, fuck it. I should have known this would happen as soon as Daniel complained about how strong Emily and Damian’s scents were. Fuck me and my dense nose for not picking up anything.’
The omega that walked inside seemed to have no interest in flowers. But it was clear that she was looking to get ‘another’ kind of flower plucked today.
“Excuse me! I know you are a customer, but I cannot allow you to walk around as you please. If you are not here to buy flowers, then kindly get out. Otherwise, I will have to use force to make you leave.”
Rika ignored the horrified look she got from Daniel about her behaviour.
But did Rika care? Of course not!
The first rule of customer service was to be polite and serve customers well, but that rule was only applicable if the other party was a customer.
And currently, this omega has yet to prove that she is a potential customer.
“O-Oh! Sorry about that. I promise I will buy something. But can’t you smell it? That scent is calling out to me. I-I think I found my fated pair. So, can you call your alpha employee to come and meet me? I promise I will give you anything after that.”
The shy omega looked hopeful.
Her expression brightened even more once she looked at Rika’s clueless face.
It seemed clear to her that Rika had not smelled anything in the air. So, what else could it be but fate that had brought her here?
“Get out and go home. The only employees in this shop are betas, including me. I can tell you are just here to pass the time, and I do not have time for it.”
That was rude, but this omega was getting on Rika’s nerves.
Even a subtle hint of sweet pheromones in the air made Rika feel sick.

She wanted to freak out, but she did not because she knew that her sickness and trauma were not this omega’s fault. That thought kept Rika sane and stopped her from doing anything drastic.
Daniel quickly pushed Rika out of the way and decided to take over.
“What are you doing, Rika? Don’t be too rude to a customer. Miss, allow me to take over for you now. What did you say you wanted?”
Daniel hisses at Rika before turning around and passing a smile at the customer. He was feeding into her delusional thinking.
But he was more than welcome to if he thought he could handle this customer. Rika knew it would be a long shift if she allowed her friends to remain here longer.
That was why she quickly walked toward the back, where Emily greeted her with a cheerful smile.
“Rika, are you done yet? This is a rather short shift. Did you decide to take an early day? How about coming with us to dinner now? Or snacks since it is not time for dinner yet? Or maybe we can go drinking-”
Emily warped her arms around Rika…correction.
She tried to warp her arms around Rika, but Damian stopped her.
He had noticed the annoyed look on Rika’s face and stopped a disaster from happening.
“Emily, take Damian and visit Rocxx until my shift ends. You are disturbing my business, and I do not like it.”
Rika warned, but Emily was quick to speak back.
“But this is not your business. Technically, it is mine because my family owns all the shops and businesses here. Does that make me your boss, Rika? That does not sound half bad, right?”
Damian grabbed Emily’s arm and placed a hand on her mouth before dragging her out. He understood what Rika was not telling him at the moment.
“I will take her out. Call us once you are done with your work. We’ll take you home.”
