Chapter 91: Ch 91: Soft smiles and bitter hearts
That was the end of the conversation. Rika did not expect anything else to be said.

After all, she had shown Andrew the truth about his emotions and instincts and was sure she would be left alone.

She was supposed to be left alone after that, but Andrew disagreed with her decision.

“This is not right! I cannot accept such a thing. I might have lost myself to those instincts back then, but I do not doubt that I still like you. Please, give me a chase-”

“I am afraid I cannot do that. You see, I am not in a place where I can afford to get hurt. If I break, I cannot pick up the pieces. So, if that is all, I shall excuse myself now.”

Rika was mentally strong but had a breaking point she refused to reach.

Call her a coward all you want, but it was wise for her to back away before she got invested.

She had already seen what could happen if an omega decided to come between her and Andrew. And that was enough for her to make up her mind.

“This was a mistake. I promise this will not happen again. I understand why you don’t trust me, and I don’t fault you. But I assure you that I will make you fall for me. If I do that, will you be with me?”

Andrew asked, and he sounded desperate.

Rika knew it was foolish for her to hope, but Andrew’s begging expression and eyes weakened her resolve, and she felt like Andrew deserved a second chance.

‘Maybe being with him won’t be so bad. This is the first time an alpha has begged me like this. Can we work things out?’

As soon as Rika thought those words, she saw the omega on the bed twitch, and Andrew instinctively paid more attention to her than Rika did.

It was a split second of interest but enough to convince Rika that this relationship would not produce anything, even if she pushed for it.

“I am afraid I would have to decline. Now, I shall get going. I hope you take care of yourself.”

Rika quickly left, leaving Andrew and that omega behind.

As soon as they were alone in the room, the omega wasted no time trying to entice Andrew.

“Please, help me out, Alpha. I feel so hot and bothered by this heat running through my body. Only you can help me out!”

The omega reached out for Andrew, but he quickly shook the omega off.

It felt easier to breathe and regain his composure now that Rika was not here.

It also made Andrew feel more grounded and like himself again.

He could not tell what had happened to him that had caused him to lose control of his body and instincts, as he had done outside.

“Alpha, don’t be like that. I promise I will help you out as well if you accept me-”

The omega reached toward Andrew to entice him, but pushing him away was too easy.

Andrew could no longer smell that enticing smell that could make him forget everything and focus on the body before him. He finally felt like himself again.

“Come on, Alpha. Play easy to get! I promise I will make you feel good if you leave yourself up to me.”

The omega tried again, but Andrew already had enough of all this. The omega got pushed back, but Andrew was gone before he could realise what happened.

Even the hospital staff looked shocked to see an alpha leave an omega-in-heat this easily. They had never seen anything like this before.

And they doubted they ever will.

‘Shit! I knew this would happen. I should not have bitten into Andrew’s bullshit about liking me in the first place. Fuck! Now I feel all disappointed.’

Rika knew it was foolish to have expectations at this point in her life. But Andrew had looked interested in her and had not first discussed her family.

He also knew about her family and chose to come after her rather than Suzie or Mark.

‘Maybe it was because I looked like an easy target. I am sure that this is the case. There is no way that man likes me for ‘myself.’ I should feel satisfied.

Reaching homemade Rika feel better. But she had to immediately run up the stairs and toward the bathroom to empty her stomach.

She ran past Charon, her dorm head, and two unknown figures.

When her room’s door opened, Rika ran toward the bathroom and emptied her stomach.

A lot came out, and Rika’s legs collapsed due to a lack of strength. Her body was shaking, and her throat hurt.

The puppy Rika had picked up a few days ago nuzzled his leg comfortably.

It seemed to worry for her, despite not knowing her for long or spending time with her.

“Hey Rika, are you feeling alright? Did something happen? You are not in the bedroom? Where the hell did you go-! Bathroom? Hey, now you are worrying me a lot. I am coming in now.”

Charon gave that warning seconds before the older beta opened the door and entered.

Rika looked like a dead person walking, and dark circles underneath her eyes showed how tired she was.

It made Charon hiss in sympathy and discomfort.

“Hey, are you sure you are alright? You look sick. Would you like me to go and get some water for you? It might make you feel better.”

Charon asked with genuine concern in her eyes.

Charon did not move from Rika’s side despite the puppy growling at her. It made Rika calm down, and she breathed better once more.

“N-No, it’s okay. My stomach would get upset if I put anything in there. I want to rest for now. Can you call me when it’s time for dinner?”

Rika asked in a hesitant voice.

Charon hesitated, mainly because dinner time was already over. But since she did not want to tell Rika this, she decided not to say anything and smiled softly back at Rika.
