Middle Child Syndrome - Chapter 98
Chapter 98: Ch 98: The reservation
“How about we lead our stalker astray? Is it possible that someone unknowingly followed us because your pheromones seduced them? This won’t be the first time this happened either, right?”
Rika tried to downplay the situation. That was how bad she felt for the poor stalker.
With this excuse given, Rika expected Emily to calm down and not think about it much. But that did not happen.
Instead of calming down, it seemed as if Emily was getting more and more triggered by the second.
And finally, she hit her threshold and decided to attack the follower.
Rika tried to catch Emily’s arm and stop her, but her hand got smacked back and got a small cut.
Emily looked back as soon as she smelled Rika’s blood, but their stalker decided to use this opportunity to try and finish Emily off.
It was an unsuccessful approach, but it was a reasonable effort.
Rika watched detachedly as Emily turned to look at their stalker with her furious gaze before reaching out to grab his neck and pick him up.
“You chose the wrong person to mess with on the wrong day. I have no mercy to spare for a fool like you.”
Emily was in a volatile mood, so asking her for anything more felt wrong—especially anything regarding letting their attacker go.
“Who are you, and who sent you? Were you here to kill Rika? I am afraid that I am not in a good mood, so I will kindly ask you to die.”
Emily’s polite words did not match the strength of her grip on the neck she was gripping. This makes the attacker try to push Emily away. But he was not able to make her let go.
Finally, that man looked at Rika in a last effort to preserve his life.
It made Rika feel odd since this was one of the few times she was being looked at for help.
Truthfully, she could help if she wanted to, but she tried to refrain from interfering until the last moments.
The man finally lost consciousness, but Emily continued to strangle the life out of him. It was then that Rika decided to interfere and stop her.
“Emily, hey Emily, Stop it right now! I know you are angry, but you will end up killing someone in the middle of the road like this. This might be mafia territory, but I doubt that even Rocxx would be able to hide what happened here if you end his life.”
Rika reminded the older alpha, and Emily finally returned to her senses.
She threw the unconscious body away and quickly messaged Rocxx about the cleanup.
Emily looked tense, and Rika wanted to help her feel better. However, she did not know how to make Emily feel better.
A head rested on Rika’s shoulder seconds after she decided to help. Emily leaned against Rika and sighed in relief as she felt her body calming down.
“Just let me stay like this until I calm down. Then, we can go out for dinner.”
Emily was too close to Rika. Her body heat and presence warned Rika’s heart. Her hand twitched as she tried to reach out and touch Emily, but Rika chickened out every time she tried.
She had no idea if Emily knew about her struggles, but she must know how hard Rika’s heart was beating.
They stayed like that for a solid minute, but the older female pulled away when Rika gathered enough courage to reach out and touch Emily.
“Looks like it’s time for us to head out. I made dinner reservations for us already. Let’s get going now.”
Emily’s smile was radiant, and it made Rika feel things inside.
Her disappointment over being unable to touch Rika faded away the second she looked at her beautiful smile. Just looking at it made Rika’s stomach flop around.
However, with her years of experience handling Emily and her smile, Rika plastered a smile that hid her nervousness and locked her arms with Emily’s.

“Let’s go! But nothing fancy, alright, Emily? I feel underdressed as I am already standing next to you. I don’t want to become a joke at the place you are taking me.”
Rika was joking around, but Emily paused when she heard what Rika said.
Blank eyes looked back at Rika, and they sent a shiver down her spine when they focused on her.
“Who would dare try to find trouble with you, Rika? Did someone say something to you? You don’t have to be shy and hide it. Come on, tell me what happened.”
Emily asked as calmly as she could, but a storm was brewing in her eyes. It made Rika tense up, and she decided to push Emily to keep walking quickly,
“Oh my! Would you look at the time? We should get going now. Don’t you say that you have a reservation under your name? Let’s hurry up.”
Rika pushed Emily and herself toward the restaurant simultaneously. Her only goal was to end the awkward air around them.
‘Maybe I should change my clothes before I enter any high-class place. I truly look underdressed at the moment.’
That thought did run through Rika’s mind once, but she pushed it away. She knew that Emily would feel offended if Rika said anything about this topic anymore.
But as soon as the duo reached the restaurant, Rika swore under her breath.
‘Fuck it! I knew I should have listened to my instincts and changed my clothes. I feel too underdressed at the moment.’
Emily did not have the same people because her aura made her stand out. The same could not be said for Rika, as she felt uncomfortable in her skin.
“We have a table listen under Emily Steinz’s name. Would you mind looking it up for me?”
Emily asked with a professional smile, and Rika felt thankful when that hard and provoking stare finally looked away from her. It felt as if Rika could breathe easier once more, and she sighed, relieved.
