Chapter 328: Seth’s Ego
Zephyr approached the beating heart and tried to touch it, but it was shielded by some kind of invisible barrier.

It was cold to the touch, and he knew that if he tried to forcefully break through it, he would die.

Zephyr looked where the tree roots were going, and a few of them were going up towards the throne room.

It almost looked like those tree roots were transferring energy from the throne room into the heart, then from the heart to somewhere else.

‘This looks interesting and valuable.’ Zephyr scratched his chin. ‘Should I try to destroy it?’

At that moment, a blade touched the back of his head.

“?!” Zephyr couldn’t move his head to look who was behind him. ‘I couldn’t sense him?’

“I see, you found it.” The person said. “Are you interested in what it is?”

“Who are you?” Zephyr asked.

“Turn around, and see.”

Zephyr turned around with his eyes narrowing and then saw a black-haired man with a sharp jawline and chiseled facial features. Beardless, but had a stern expression that seemed familiar.

“You’re that mad pirate.” Zephyr said. “Aemon, was it?”

“Yes, that’s right.” Aemon put the blade against Zephyr’s throat.

“Now that I think about it.” Zephyr chuckled. “You do look like Moriarty. So, you’re one of his clones.”

“A deviant clone.” Aemon looked up at the broken ceiling. “My life’s purpose is to kill him.”

“Why’re you helping him then?” Zephyr asked, genuinely curious.

“Well, I did come here to kill him originally.” Aemon said.

“I thought I had become strong enough to fight against his controlling powers. I was wrong. He had become stronger. He had become a monster.

“With his controlling powers, he forced me to kill my men. A few managed to escape. But most of them were not so lucky. Now, he forced me to protect this heart.

“If you try to do anything to the heart, I am programmed to kill you.”

“What is that heart?” Zephyr asked, and after listening to Aemon’s words, he also lessened his killing intention.

“Y’know about Moriarty’s plan to free those warlords.” Aemon said. “That heart is the key. With every passing second, your power is being sucked into that heart and sent to the world of mist to free them.”

“I don’t feel any different, though.” Zephyr said with a frown.

“That’s because it’s a slow process, but soon you’ll be drained completely.”

“How soon?” Zephyr asked with a frown.

“A couple of days,” Aemon said.

“I see,” Zephyr said. “I guess it is time to retreat.”

“That won’t do, unfortunately.” Aemon said. “I can feel it. My body will attack you if you try to leave.”

“Oh.” Zephyr covered his right fist with his gold Kraft and punched towards Aemon.

With his right hand, Aemon drew his cutlass pirate sword and blocked the punch that was aimed at his face.

The clash between two opposing forces made the whole basement shake.

“Troublesome,” Zephyr said with a frown.

“I apologize for this.” Aemon lifted his sword and brought it back down.

They exchanged blows, and the heart started glowing with greater intensity. It wasn’t only sucking away Zephyr’s power but also Aemon’s.

Within the small town below Castle Rock, a couple of young men hid inside the storage shed, peeking through the ajar door.

“Shit…” Edwardius sat on the ground while bandaging his bleeding wounds. “What the hell is wrong with this place?”

“…” Seth looked outside and saw all the caged humans. “I thought this King Moriarty was supposed to be some great man.”

“How could he do this to his own people?”

“Haha!” Edwardius laughed. “Those who seem too clean usually aren’t. I knew that our dear King couldn’t be as amazing as everyone said.”

“Well, what will we do?” Seth asked. “Try to rescue Aemon?”

“Hah, as if.” Edwardius shook his head. “I am making a run for it. If you two want to stay and risk getting caught, be my guest.”

“So much for loyalty, aye?” Seth scoffed.

“And what could we possibly do?” Edwardius stood up and pushed Seth aside. “You, weak fuck, will be worthless no matter what we do.”

Seth staggered, but he didn’t look to be in pain or distress. He simply leaped off the ground and kicked Edwardius across his face.

SMACK!

Edwardius got sent flying and crashed at the wall with a bloody nose.

“Argh, the hell?!”

“Sit down, trash.” Seth put his feet on Edwardius’ face and pressed down with all his weight.

“Y-you fucker!” Edwardius saw red. “I will kill you!”

“You, who’ve lived a life of luxury, have no idea what real suffering is like.” Seth said.

“I’ve suffered. Starved. And I fought tooth and nail for everything I have. Now, I, Seth, am strong!”

Edwardius tried to remove his feet from his face but noticed that he couldn’t move him an inch.

‘What? How did this trash become so strong?!’

While in the sea, none of them had ever seen Seth fight, so they all assumed that he was still the same weak loser.

However, they had no idea what kind of torturous training he was undergoing with Aemon.

“Alright!” Edwardius raised his arms in surrender. “You win, Seth.”

Seth removed his foot from his face and walked back to the door.

“We made quite a bit of noise. I hope no one heard.”

“Urgh.” Edwardius snapped his broken nose back into place. “Well, what is your plan to help Aemon? Wait a moment, why the fuck do you want to save him in the first place?”

“That bastard hasn’t finished my training yet.”

“Is that all Aemon is to you?” Edwardius asked. “A fucking teacher?”

“Exactly.” Seth said. “Everyone has their own purpose. Aemon’s purpose is to make me strong. If I feel grateful afterwards, maybe I won’t snap his neck.”

“Wow, when did you grow such an ego?” Edwardius whistled. “Scary~”

“I am this world’s main character.” Seth said, and lifted his finger. “I can’t die until the final boss is defeated.”

“Who is the final boss?”

“Adam Palestar, of course.” Seth turned to Edwardius. “Y’see, he stole my steel shortsword. I will kill him and get it back.”

“I think you’re crazy.” Edwardius grinned and put his arm around his shoulder. “I love crazy guys. That’s why I joined Aemon in the first place!”
